I guess Shyam scored music for Vilaangu meen (Sulakshana Dir: Jayadevi) and Nalam nalamariya aaval (Saritha & Mohan Dir: Jayadevi or Mouli?)

OISG, Was it not Shankar-Ganesh for "Velladu Vengaygirathu". I remember it had Saritha with Sivakumar and Vijayakumar... Not very sure

Saravanan,
Thanks for the film details on the song, "MArgazhip pArvai pArkkavA". By any chance do you have this number? Thanks.
Yes, the other number you mentioned, "Poo Enbadha, pon enbadhA" is sort of a seductive number, with a very interesting pallavi. It had the singers doing a wonderful job especially the humming towards the end. Like you said, thanks to 'Ilangai oliparappuk koottutthAbanam Tamizhchevai 2', we got to hear such great numbers.
bb, just listen to this rare song (MArgazhip pArvai), I am sure you will be hooked! There's a humming by SPB & SJ in the 2nd interlude, which is particularly good.

>>>>>>>>>Since Saravanan says, I agree!Shyam was MSV s assistant!.(He is the unblemished Naatami here!)>>>>>>>
Thank God, OISG u didn't turn out to be ponnambalam's father and shouted as NAATTAMAI THEERPPA MAATHTHICHCHOLLU only to get a fitting reply from naattamai as NIRUTHTHUDA (NOM) :-)
I think "NandRi meeNdum varuga" is the first film for P.C.Sreeram as cinematographer. That "Present day Vaali" like(in appearance) film-lyricist's "kalyaanam paNNikkO illaiyina vittukkO" is still lingering in my mind. If im not wrong Shyam did one more prathap movie. but sorry couldn't remember the name of the film. Naataamai the aalamarathadi is waiting for your theerpu in this regard :-)

The tune for the opening line reminds me of "Chaudhvin ka chand ho" by Rafi but the rest seem to be totally different. A good melody overall.

Kupps,
>>>>NAATTAMAI THEERPPA MAATHTHICHCHOLLU only to get a fitting reply from naattamai as NIRUTHTHUDA (NOM) :-)<<<<
There was a Pandiarajan film in which his grandmother recalls the grandeur of her late husband (another Pandiarajan!) when he was the naattaamai! The grandfather Pandiarajan comes in a rEkLaa vaNdi and settles down for theerppu. One man suddenly gets hyperactive and shouts 'NAATTAMAI THEERPPA MAATHTHICHCHOLLU '. Pandiarajan quips ' innum theerppE sollaladaa veNNa(i)'!!!!

OISG, before 'matravai neril' Mouli made a movie with Srikanth as the hero. Mouli's debut i think. its a story of the man, his wife and his other lady love. a very interesting drama type movie. whats the name of that movie ?

OISG the original movie that you are talking about is probably "Vaa Indha Pakkam". Along with "anandha dhaangam" I also recall the heroine singing a Hindi song in that movie with the words being "Meri Awaaz Sun, is mein hai bade dhun" (SJ)or something like that. The tune was quite close to "neeyo naano Yaar nilave" from MSV's Mannaathi mannan.

Excellent Song .. Thanks BB for such a Lovely song
It's a must hear song during night....
REally All the songs were Excellent
Particularly the 2.
1.Inbamana Iravidhuve
2.Kaathal yaathiraiku(this is really a catchy number)
which was "Prema yathiraku" in Telugu
Equally hit.
Reg PS's humming .. It was Great & the Diction Was PErfect..
Thanjai Ramiaoh Doss is known for these kind of Lyrics...
A Great compostion my Ghantasala master..
it's a nice movie Where in Akkineni Nageswararo Plays the brother of Gemini & Jamuna Plays the sister of Savithri..Surayakantham plays the "Chitti" of Savitri who Tortures Savitri..
Gemini comes as a Servant to that house to Rescue Savitiri.. story goes like that...

Raj:
Have you listened to the PS solo
thendral paadavum, thEn malarAdavum,
kaNgaL moodavum kanavu kaNdEn
in manidhan mARavillai? Easily it is the best song in that movie. It comes in 2 versions.. first when Jamuna falls in love with Nageswara Rao and later when they both are poor and have to toil hard in life to make an earning. The movie has another wonderful PS solo,
kuRumbinilum oru ezhil thOndrum
gOkula kaNNanin mugamengum
(sung by Savithri in the movie) The movie has more good songs:
kaNmaNiyE un idhaya veeNaiyin gaana oonjalil aadinen
(Ghantasala sings for Nageswara Rao)
manidhan maaRavillai
(SG/PLeela sing for Gemini-Savithri)
and two ordinary songs
pOdu pOdu and Om sarvam sakthi mayam paaru
(both SG for Gemini). As you said, the movie is a very enjoyable family drama.

OISG,
"Anandha Dhaagam" and "Ival Devadhai" were Mouli and Shyam combination but the movie was "Vaa Indha Pakkam".
Shyam's debut, I think was the ill-fated "Thani Maram", it had "Dhalir Dhalir" which became a moderate hit.
Shyam also did this duet from an unknown movie, "Puraa rendu vaanam sendru maegam engum maeyudhae nilaa koodu thannil thoongudhae", VM in his erstwhile glory.

Hey, most of us didn't really discuss Ghantasala, any hard core ghantasala fans out there itching to comment that we are biased against Ghantasala since we held back our praise?
bb,
I know that another IR or ARR song is just around the corner, so may I request some fairly obscure gems instead of celebrating the anointed?
-kanavil midhakkum from Eera Vizhik Kaaviyangal, a grand reminder of what an artist this man was
-dhaagam edukkira naeram from Enakkaaga Kaathiru, one of IR's overlooked gems probably suffered the Suman Sumalatha curse just like Araadhanai!
-ilam panithuli vizhum naeram from Araadhanai- a spectacular number to remind people the orchestration IR is capable of
ARR:
-"pakkaa gentleman naan" a dubbed classic from Police Police or some such inane movie, fabulous percussions and a divine SPB.
There can't possibly be another undiscovered ARR song, since Pavithra has already been selected.

Exquisite song! How sweet PS sounds! Thanks, bb.
When ALR was interviewed by Gangaiamaran some years back on TV, he reminisced on this song, and wondered at Ghantasala’s magnanimity in giving this song to him, instead of singing it himself. ALR then sang a few lines of the song, and GA’s eyes closed involuntarily in appreciation. Later GA asked ALR the reason for his not getting many songs, despite being gifted with a good voice. ALR shot back, asking GA why GA himself never thought of giving AlR any song in the films for which GA composed music.
GA, for once in his life, was at a loss for words.
‘Kanmaniye un idhaya veenaiyin gaana oonjalil’ is a very catchy song from Manithan Maaravillai, sung with robust enjoyment by Udhayabhanu. He was one of the three Telugu singers who made rare appearances in Tamil songs. The other two being Madhavpethi Sathyam (‘Nee varavillaiyenil’- Mangaiyar Thilagam-1955) and Panigrahi
( ‘Naan thedum pothu nee odalaamo’ and ‘Kann kaanum minnal thaano’- Aval Yaar-1959)
Coming back to the SOTD, the brilliant lyrical play subtly brings out the different reactions that the wondrous night and its enchantment evokes in the hero and the heroine. (Udhaya, I am sure you must have noticed this!)
He is aroused, she is comforted.
He feels stricken, she feels soothed.
He finds his surroundings agitating; she finds the same environs tranquil and restful--
Just a nimble change of a word here and a word there, and oh, the difference--
He: Inbamanna iravithuvey idhayam rendum magizhuravey
She: Inbamanna iravithuvey idhayam rendum magizhuravey
He: Sindhai mayakkum vennila VINDHAI MARUNDHAI THOOVUTHEY
She: Sindhai mayakkum vennila PANNEER THULIYAI THOOVUTHEY
He: Oruvar paarvai oruvar meedhu narumalar KANAI veesuthey
She: Oruvar paarvai oruvar meedhu narumalar MANAM veesuthey
He: Malaragl veesum manathinaaley viraga thaabam KANIYUTHEY
She: Malargal veesum manathinaaley viraga thaabam THANIYUTHEY
He: Maankuyilin kaadhal geetham MANATHIL UNARCHI THOONDUTHEY
She: Maankuyilin kaadhal geetham MANATHAIYE THAALATTUDHEY
He: Inimaiyaana ninaivu alaiyil idhayam VIRAINDHU selludhey
She: Inimaiyaana ninaivu alaiyil idhayam MIDHANDHU selludhey--
