Well, there can be no doubt about the fact that these three are the best singers in TFM at the moment. But of the three, who's the best? It seems to me that the vast majority of TFM fans feel that it is Unni Krishnan, but I feel that Srinivas is a more versatile singer. Of course, technically he is not as perfect; at very high pitches his voice does sound funny, but I feel that he is more versatile, i.e. capable of singing all styles of music, while Unni Krishnan is better at Carnatic and Indian light music. I feel that Shankar Mahadevan is also similarly talented, i.e. has a voice that suits both Indian Classical and Western-style pop music, but his voice lacks the "lightness" that characterizes Srinivas.
In summing up, I would like to say that in my opinion, Srinivas is a vastly-underrated singer.
What are your comments? It would be really nice to have the experts's comments here, i.e. J Srikkanth, Naveen Jebaraj, Aditya, etc., etc.

i am a madhubalakrishnanfan,to be frank.i agree with mr,peter pan.he has a good knowledge in music,the bhavam,the rasam and the thalam
he is not trying to imitate someone like the great,k.j.yesudas.his voice is god-given.no one can imitate a person in all ranges, right?
please do try to hear ('ethilum ingu 'from bharathi,'thillu mullu ulakathe 'from aandaan adimai,'kanaa kandenadi' from parthiban kanavu and many other.)please ,before posting a response like ARRFAN,try to understand the depth of his voice, his range, his melodious voice...............if u want to hear his melodies he has sung lots in kannada films.do find time to hear those songs, great person he is..then,he has good knowledge in karnatic music ,that's right.but that don't mean that he can't sing light songs.in malayalam he is known as the 'deva gayakan'.also plz do hear the song 'amme amme 'from the film 'vaalkkannadi' (malayalam film)can any of these mentioned singers sing that song with such variations and effect?i can bet,'nobody can'he has got state award for this song-god's gift........then,plz vijay don't say that noone can sing that "minsaara poove"i have heard madhubalakrishnan singing that song when he came here for a programme here in bahrain-great!so plz don't try to underrate him .......this is my request.as an ardent music lover ,i have to say so.sorry,if anybody is hurt.i wrote this much b'coz i was hurt by the comments from arrfan.

Hari,U are right.I have heard lots of songs of Mr.MadhuBalakrishnan.His voice is superb.I think HE has his own style. What a melodious voice he has?
He is filled with God's grace. Many a person can get such a great voice.touch wood!I too had a chance to hear his programme. He can sing songs in many languages and every one says that he is their own singer, that's great, right?
I agree that Unnikrishnan,Srinivas &sankar mahadevan are real good singers. But,Can Srinivas sing a heavy classical song?everyone has their own limitations.

Hi all, what is the scale you all using, when we compare some things we shoul measure it in the same scale. Before i comment let me say that in voice level: Unni is kind of nasal, Srini doesn't have a full voice, he is lacking mid range. Shankar has a full voice. but unfortunately he is used only for high range songs only.
Classicall Shankar and Unni are good, not sreeni i think. may be i am wrong.
Expression vice unni is good for sad and romance notothers, now you all decide

hi all,me hariprasad again....................i love madhubalakrishnan's style, whatever u people say.i know he is not mimicing anyone like the great KJY.Madhu has god given voice.may be some resemblences, but not knowingly.that's for sure....i have heard him singing different kinds of songs, classical, melody, devotional, comedy, western style songs, light ones etc in a programme called symphony in kairali t.v.(channel from kerala)
after the news of his award, there were several interviews in different papers and magazines.so i came to know more about him.he is from the central part of kerala.his father died when he was 13 or 14.he studied music in THE ACADEMY OF INDIAN MUSIC AND ARTS(AIMA),ADAYAR under sri.T.V.GOPALAKRISHNAN.his first film is 'Ulavathurai'(a duet with Ms.K.S.Chitra.His wife is Ms.Divya and his son is Madhav(just 6 months)

Unnikrishnan is the better out of the three. Srinivas and Shankar Mahadevan are still to score a song that is explosive and can leave them with a trademark. Eg. KS Chitra became really famous with Sinthu Bhairavi - I feel that Srinivas and Shankar Mahadevan are still to score a massive hit.

arun, unless the mds give singers those kind of songs, how will they score a 'massive' hit? they need opportunities to show their talent...luckily for some, they have got their breaks....but how can singers show their talent without mds effort

All three singers are extremely talented and I agree that Unnikrishnan is vastly under-rated. I would put Shankar Mahadevan at the top for being very versatile and "selling" himself to appeal to the wider audience both in India and abroad. His association with the Swedish group Mynta has produced some excellent fusion melodies popular with serious listeners overseas. Being the better amongst the three at classical, Unnikrishnan is perhaps limiting himself to appeal to a particular segment of the audience. Let us not compare anyone with Yesudas, there's no one close to him (I fear we may never have someone who will get anywhere close to him).

HELLO,
I AM AN ARDENT FAN OF MADHU BALAKRISHNAN, IN MY OPINION HE IS THE BEST MALE SINGER FOR SOUTH INDIA AT PRESENT. HIS VOICE IS SO MELODIOUS NOT AT ALL IMITATING KJY AS HE HAS GOT SOME NATURAL RESEMBLENCES IN HIS VOICE WITH KJY, IT DOE NOT MEAN THAT HE IS IMITATING. ANY HOW NOW HE IS THE BEST SINGER FOR KERALA AND THAT IS WHY HE GOT STATE AWARD FOR HIS AMME AMME SONG.

Dear friends,
I belive the god has given a new Jesudas to Keralites it is no one else other than Madhu Balakrishnan. His voice is so sweet and melodious and he sings a lot songs in kannada films, malayalam films, and tamil telu etc. He has immense knowledge in karnatic music also. In my opinion he is the best of all the new coming singers and his voice is as good as or even better than K.J Yesudas. My whole family and my friends are so much craze about his songs. Especially the karnatic style songs by Madhu balakrishnan
