Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

- An Ilayaraja-Mani Rathnam-S.Janaki-Vaali song for the weekend.
- This is one song where everything comes together to make a perfect number; IR's wonderful music, S.Janaki's singing, Revathi's exuberance and radiance, good looking extras, Rajastani costumes, vibrant colors, good lyrics by Vaali, chorus singing that was above average for an IR song, and what not! This was the song which made me appreciate Revathi's beauty for the first time :)
- Awe wrote in IR background tracks thread:
Some of the background tracks can be found in the interludes and preludes of his song.. Not exactly .. Let me start with a song..
Song : Chinna Chinna Vannakuyil, Mouna Raagam
(If you have surround sound you can fully enjoy this masterpiece from IR)
There is a background runs behind chinna chinna vannakuyil subtle but beautiful
Interlude - between pallavai and first charanam
(humming and a music synch with that humming)
Interlude between her singing Kaana Kaana...
Interlude - before second charanam.. flute..
and a wonderful piece of musical arrangments..
Listen to this song carefully. It is such delightful number from IR.

I think Awe mentions about the bass scores.Excellent bass for this song. When i sang this song during my polytechnic days crowd used to help me in the "maalai soodiyum..mmm..mmm" humming part

something always irritates me in this song - i have never been to find out why for years(maybe SJ's voice sounding shriller than ever, maybe Revathi/Manirathnam adding a typical 'longing' song, maybe the desert picturisation...something)

"Oho megam vandhadho" and "chinna chinna",
I involuntarily go into "Do nothing but listen" mode.I need to overcome a strong nostalgic wave like my friend , collegemate and PSG Tech music guitarist Jigil Ramesh going bonkers over the bass guitar ,his ranting and raving about SJ 's expression of "viraga thaabam" in the lines "inbathin ellaiyo illaiye illaiye
andhiyum vandhadhaal thollaiye thollaiye", our sodhappal, 'boo'some college day dance,
my husband becoming emotional during the second interlude humming and the accompanying music ....
BTW, could anybody tell what is the instrument used during the second interlude humming part along with the violins?

Haris:
Glad you enjoyed Viswewaran mp3's.
SL:
The files got accidentally deleted from my briefcase last night. I will upload the files again and give new links. You should meet Visweswaran and have a chat. He has actually seen the recordings of many great songs of VR.. for example, kaNNukku kulamEdhu from Karnan. Because of lack of time in the thEn kiNNam he was throwing info fast. He seems to be a very big fan of MSV. He also remembers (and also seems to know them personally) all the artistes in VR's troupe.

I sometimes feel that Chinna Chinna was an extension of the beautiful template that IR had originally created for Sendhoorap poovE. In fact it is very easy to do a smooth transition from one to another. Plus the relative chord structures are very similar (at least in the pallavi).
Note to self: Analysis kills innocent enjoyment!
Mythila: I believe the instument with the strings and humming in the second interlude is pizzicato strings - the sound you get when you pluck the violins.

SP, actually i think it is one of the earliest songs to make an effort to have good looking extras, before mumbai models became dime a dozen.

bb,
Ramya Krishnan I can see! but revathi ??
Your statement "Revathi's exuberance and radiance......made me appreciate Revathi's beauty for the first time :) "
Was it Major who mouthed this inane dialogue
" I am like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which is not there"
That is what came into my mind.
even otherwise this song has not caught my fancy ;-(

Thamizh, probably if raja had used an instrument like flute or violin(like how he does in most of the cases), instead of female voices, I think you will not be complaining.
