Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us.   I thought of writing about that too, but didn't want to sound too 'critical', and be stamped a purist :-))
  
  it's "udaikkindrathu"
  
  If you listen closely(with headphones), the second instance of this word at the start of the song sounds "uthaikkindathu". I was curious how VM saw kaatru kicking flowers :-))
  
  Also there's another thing in the song. The second instance of 'kidakkindrathu' is missing the letter 'ki'. It sounds '..dakkindrathu'. I don't know if it's a conversion issue, or a recording issue.
  
  Back to your qn.
  Going by VM's rhymings, I'm sure it is 'udaikkindrathu'

  - echil iravugaL was a Balu Mahendra film. Arun mentions that it was based on a slum background. The movie won critical acclaim but was not commercially succesful. oru thalai rAgam fame Roopa was the heroine.
  
  According to rajangahm, the movie was released in 1982. Balu Mahendra did Moondram pirai around the same time. I am not sure whether this film came earlier. I couldn't find more information on this movie.

  echil iravugal is a film by A.S.Pragasam. The song you have picked is one which is close to my heart. the lines. thanks. the lines " nAno thinam kAthal kEtkum kathAl pichchaikkAran" still lingers in my mind from the day i first heard it in vivithbharathi. The Director, i would say, had lotta guts to make a movie on the life of beggars and make ppl,like chandrasekhar, roopa, prathap pothen, raveendar act in central characters of 'rApichhaiikkArarkaL'. Probably the film failed miserably due to this reason. I saw the film at a time when i was chasing rajinikanth's & kamalhasan's movies and didnt like this arty stuff. I remember the rave reviews the films recd in magazines.

  Echil Iravugal (1982/ New Wavers) was scripted and directed by A.S.Prakasam. Balumahendra was the film's cinematographer. It starred Chandrasekar, Prathap, Roopa, Vanitha and others.
  
  This song featured Prathap and Roopa, roadside beggars, whose story has a tragic ending. Lilting song! Lyrics by M.G.Vallaban.

  Telugu MD Chakravarthi's very popular hit in 80s "Naa kaLLu chebuthunnaayi ninu preminchaanani" from the movie "PremabHishEkham" (ANR's silver jubilee hit) is based on this song.
  So, when I first heard this song 2 years back, I thought that the MD was not IR or he had copied this song in Tamil:-) Then, of course, I realised it was the other way around.

  I used to wonder that the pallavi of `poo mEla veesum poongAtRE'(SOTD) and 'mazhaikkAla mEgham ondRu, maNi oonjal Adiyadhu' (vAzhvE mAyam, the Tamil remake of premAbhishEkham) are similar...Well looks like GA copied his brother's tune via Telugu field:-)) BTW, what about the other songs of vAzhvE mAyam? are they replicas too?

  If I am right"Echil Iravugal" was released on April13th 1982 Tamil Newyear's day.
  That was my Summer Vacation after my 6th std.
  The other films released on that day were,
  Ranga
  Simla Special
  Thooral Ninnu Pochu
