...Gemini Studios, which paid Chopra over Rs 1 crore for the remake rights with 20 per cent of the profit and script veto powers, will launch the Tamil version with Kamal Haasan on May 15. "I was seeing a clean good family entertainer in Hindi after such a long time and I felt we should not miss a chance to remake it," explains Manohar Prasad of Gemini who is now negotiating for a remake in Kannada and a Malayalam version starring Mohanlal....

Saw the movie in Toronto on Saturday at 10:30 at Elaine. They played VR MBBS at both the halls, and by the look of it, it seemed like both Halls were full or very near it.
It’s a laugh riot. Nothing more. Nothing less. I thought the story cleverly incorporated a little bit of ‘sentiment’ just to give the audience a break. It did not go overboard with the sentiment scenes and sothapufy the movie.
I also felt it moved quite fast –even in the second half. The only thing was that I felt the two duets songs were forced and did not need to be there – even though the songs were quite nice. I also felt the duet songs could have been shot better, instead of the usual run-jump-spin dance routines.
Whoever said Prakash Raj was wasted in this movie must love his usual over-acting villain roles. I loved him in this movie. And Kudos to Saran for casting him in that role.
I agree that Prabu and even Karunas could have had bigger roles. But I loved Prabu’s character and the way he played it.
I plan to see it again once the crowd dies down.

Yes he has. I always liked Prabhu in light roles. He messes it up right royaly with over acting when it comes to emotional scenes.
He is very natural and likeable in this movie as Vaddi.

Sify says:
Vasoolraja MBBS has taken over the Chennai box-office. All other films put together will not collect as much as this Kamal Hassan film, which has netted an amazing Rs 9, 78,000 in four days from Satyam Cineplex.
What does this mean? Was the movie only released in Satyam Cineplex in Chennai?

Confused-ius,
I think the report says that the collections of other films in all their released theatres in Chennai is not equal to the collections of VR MBBS in just Sathyam.

Sify & many other sources have criticised the movie and the music, apart from Kamalji.
It is major let down, when compared to Munnabhai MBBS!

Raghu,
Is this your opinion or is it the opinion of Sify?
There are other reviews that claim VS is better than MB. I suppose it's all a matter of taste.
I did not and will not see MB. So I cannot compare both. But VS is very well worth the $10 you pay for it.

Hai guys,
The movie is an excellent entertainer.Kamal's performance is superb.although not quite in the mould of Avvai Shanmughi or PKS the movie is nevertheless interesting to watch.....the implausible storyline irks u in the beginning but the comedy pulls u along and Crazy Mohan gives his best again....i really enjoyed som of his dialogues....
i also loved Prabhu's character but felt it shud hav had more weight.[he is already weight is another matter]
songs wer not so good when heard in CD but it jells very well with the movie.....enjoyable.
Prakashraj's acting deserves mention....any other actor wud hav made the character look downrite silly and irritating....[for eg. had Kalabavan Mani acted in it, it wud be worse than a Pig's a*s....irritating actor]
Some usual and inconsistent Kamal style Naathikam is sprinkled thruout the movie.even the Anand character strikingly looked like Sri Sri Sri RaviShankar [esp. the slanted head and beard with a small smile].....wonder wat Kamal has against RaviShankar......!!
a dialogue that provoked great claps......
"saami irruku nu sollrane avana nambalaam.....saami illa nu sollraane avanayum nambalaam ....aana Naanthan saami nu sollraane avana mattum nambave koodathu"
and thr r many philosophical yet simple dialogues about the power of Love.......all very much enjoyable.....overall a fresh, good entertainer

Raghu,
I have seen MB MBBS,but living in bangalore have had the misfortune of not being able to see VR MBBS.A clash of egos&chavunism has meant that non-kannada films are not releasing here from last week. Also as a policy i don't watch movies on pirated cd's,so i am not in a position to compare both movies.personally i think a remake works as a standalone¬ in comparison with the original except occasionally(Kuruthippunal-Drohkaal)

MNT,
It is not my opinion, I have seen V.MBBS, not M.BMMS, I am just eagerly waiting for JAGGIBHAI ;)))
Cinefan,
>>personally i think a remake works as a standalone¬ in comparison with the original except occasionally <<
is this because, it was made by the inspiration king, kamal ji :)) and you are his hard core fan:))
just joking :)

Cinefan,
I suggest you wait. Don't spoil it by watching it on a pirated vcd. A pirated copy can never do justice to a movie - only mega serials should be watched on pirated vcds:-)

Raghu,
There might have been other remakes which were better than the originals but yes,i am Kamal's hardcore fan&so it's no surprise that one of his movies came to my mind. Why don't you suggest some movies which fall into this category? In fact a seperate thread can be started for this.
Mnt,
I will never watch the movie on a pirated cd,even if the film doesn't release in bangalore.I will wait till the producers release the movie on VCD/DVD.

Vasool Raja MBBS on top slot
Vasool Raja MBBS, the Tamil remake of Munnabhai MBBS starring Kamal Hassan and Sneha in the lead has had a bumper opening at the box office. It has been declared as the box office hit with a nett collection of Rs.16 lakhs in the last 5 days from Sathyam Cinemas and Rs.5.15 lakhs from Maharani Theatre. “It has crossed the earlier records of all Kamal movies” opines Munikannaiah, VP - Distributor Relationship, Sathyam Cinemas. Brilliant acting by Kamal Hassan combined with good production values has made VR MBBS a super hit.

Somehow, I am skeptical about this statement. They said this about Virumandi too, but now they say it was only a moderate hit.
Which is true?

Cinefan,
Inters of Inspirational movies, I would rate 'SHOCK' far better than 'V.MBBS', our Tamilians are typical stereo types, they will never appreciate a change from the same old usual masala craps, SHOCK was different, excellent work by Thiyagarajan (apart from his irritating acting) & Meena, even Prashanth acted good :), music was awesome along with the camera man, paneer chelvam, but what can be said like this (technically) V.MBBS? apart from kamal's excellent performance, Prabhu was mis used, & wasted, I am sure Kamal ji could have given a better character to Prabhu!!
use less songs like 'Manmatha raasa' was a mega hit, so u can understand the standards of audience :((
