Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

I agree that we dont know about ARR's spontaniety!
That is a much better statements than the ones that come from the IR lobby saying "ARR cannot compose spontaneously"
As if they have been to his composition sessions and have conducted a test on him to find that out.
I just gave the Pongal example to prove that ARR has done it once! Even I mysself wrote that it is just a one instance! I wanted to prove that ARR is not uncapable of composing spontaneously!
I dont question IR's spontaniety! He is a great man! In fact I was impressed when he said that he wished he had a machine that would translate his lightning quick musical thoughts into paper by not letting some slip away by leeway time!

I surely agree IR gave some quality music in short time frame
But ARR does not work in that style! ARR loves to completely polish his music before he starts giving the output. There is nothing wrong.
and the part about BGM. No doubt IR is too good in BGM. But that does not undermine ARR's ability to compose BGM. According to you "shouting" is not good for BGM.
According to me "shouting" adds mor frictional power to the scenes and I like them! It is ARR's style of working and I dont want him to change that style.
and about Hollywood movies... you can easily see that most hollywood composers have a major song for each movie and the song's theme would be the predominant BGM in the whole movie with lots of variations. However other BGMs too would prevail acc to situations.
It is ridiculous to say ARR should not use songs as BGMs for his movies!. HE prefers doing that! there is nothing wrong!
One thing is that IR's BGM are so corelated with the visuals! I mean.. you cannot take "some of them" out seperately and call them a theme music. That is his greatness!

I did not say SONGS should not be used as BGM'S!!

For all guys who feel ARR is not gud in BGM:
1. Bombay (the screaming which causes rumbles in stomach, u cant deny that)
2. Thiruda Thiruda ( The robbery scenes)
3. Dil se (Vinmeenkal song)
4. Kadhalan( music for Raghuvaran, the scream sound which was used by even YSR in his films)
5. Mudhalvan (sanskrit words when arjun is winning the battle)
still IR is the best for BGM,but ARR is not bad after all.. and also i meant Hollywood style bcos, the MDs use the tunes from OST of the movie in BGM which is what ARR does too...

hello guys!
acc 2 me ,
IR WAS GR8 during his time.........and
now ARR is GR8 now.......
u cant compare both of them..... both belogn 2 diff category of music... and both r genius music directors........ plz dont fight over music... MUSIC has no boundaries.....
ofcourse if u talk abt the current MD'S like HJ, ysr ..etc....yes theres a point in arguing that they follow the style of arr or else they r not talented like the geniuses......]
but acc 2 me tfm till now has had only 2 GENIUSES ...... one is IR and other is ARR.....
i guess VS...if he does prety well...using more of his own style & tune....he could land up next 2 IR & ARR....
but others i feel they dont have CREATIVITY.........
p.s. : this is my personal opinion only...& also that of few of my friends

MADDY,
I dont think you follow what i said about personal preferences. Yeah for some reason you miss the point!! Secondly I never said ARR is good for nothing, he is good, but you know what i liked the most in ARR's recent movies, Alaipayuthey had the gr8 bit of Engegum Punnagai
and Mangalayam (nice technique of how it was fused).. I call this VERY... GOOD.
In the US, the marketing is done differently, there is not that much of a musical, but singles and OST which include singles.
Sometimes it is there coz one interlude comes up. IR had so many of his songs theme as BGM. I dont know you keep telling the same movies over and over again, which i know too, but u forget to argue on the style.
In recent movies, i have seen a couple of movies had their OST single do very well
Titanic: My heart will go on (Celene Dion) though i hate her voice and music, this one was good.
Pearl Harbor: Faith Hill Song
My personal preference
Matrix:
Marlyn Manson Song
Matrix Reloaded: Marlyn Manson & POD
Spider-Man: Hero
i would consider these songs fitted well not all of them are that gr8, but still I dont see them Hollywood style composing with ARR..(and i would be last person who wants a strict Hollywood style BGM Which curtails the identity of a Indian movie)

Audio review of Boys (Telugu version) - " Boombastic "
http://www.idlebrain.com/audio/areviews/boys.html
Name: Boys (2003)
Cast: boys & Genelia
Music Director: AR Rehman
Director: Shankar
Producer: AM Rathnam
"Audio review of Boys - Boombastic"
- Sreya Sunil
India's one of the highest paid directors, Shankar, is now back with
Boys. He introduces six new faces, 5 boys (Bharath, Siddharth, Nakul,
Sai, Vivek, Manigandhan) and a gal (Genelia 'D Souza of Tujhe Meri
Kasam [Hindi version of Nuvve Kavali] now rechristened as Harini) for
the first time. Shankar's movies always carry positive reports and
gargantuan expectations and Boys is no exception. Produced by ace
producer AM Ratnam on his Sri Surya Productions banner, Boys boasts
of huge sets, rich and grand shot takings, sophisticated computer
graphics, socially relevant messages, basically the whole nine yards
in Shankar's style.
Shankar and Rahman gave us Gentleman, Premikudu, Bharateeyudu, Jeans,
Oke Okkadu in the past and now they team up again for Boys. While all
their earlier films had songs of all kinds - melodies, fast beat
songs, folkish songs; Boys has mainly high energy, fast beat songs.
Keeping in mind, the characters and story of the movie, Rahman
delivers a boombastic score for Boys, which is aimed at the youth.
Karthik and Vasundhara Das are the stars of this album with their
zesty renditions. While all the lyrics are by AM Ratnam and Siva
Ganesh, Plassi (Blaaze?) writes good English lyrics and (w)raps them
well in the songs.
Sreya's Picks: Dating, Sarigame, Girlfriend

BOYS Report with new pics
http://www.newstodaynet.com/arts/1807fl1.htm
Shankar bets high on Boys
Director Shankar is known for his 'big ideas and big
thinking' and has to his credit five mega hits. His next venture
Boys, a mega-budget film, introducing six newcomers has raised
great expectations among the movie- buffs.
The tech-savvy Shankar who keeps things close to his
heart on his films, has completed the entire shoot for the film
and it is all set for release early next month. A musical film,
Boys has over half-a-dozen songs set to immaculate tunes by A R
Rehman.
The songs have been recorded in the advanced 5.1 digital
technology and have been picturised in a grand manner. Produced by
A M Rathinam, Boys has been picturuised in exotic locations of
Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand.
More than 60 cameras were used for a song, while 500
group dancers appear for another adds gandeur to this film.
Speaking on the project, Shankar says ' Boys is all about
the experiences everyone has during teenage days.
Veteran lyricist Vaali and writer Sujatha, who have
worked in this film, have gown down memory lane to their
adolescence. Vivek plays an insignificant role in the movie.
The new faces being introduced are Siddarth, Sai,
Manikandan, Bharath, Nakul and Harini. Dialogues by Sujatha,
cinematography by Ravi K Chandran, choreography by Raju Sundaram
and editing by V T Vijayan.
