Yesudas and Illayaraja

With so many topics opened, I have not seen one that discussed these two great musicians. Yesudas and IR have provided TFM some soothing melodies and wonderful songs. Let me start by opening the thread with "Edho Ninaivugal" ... This song has mesmerized me for a long time. Please bring out the best songs with these two and I would personally like to get a list of the songs and keep it safe for a million years.

PS :: Please for heaven sake do not drag ARR into this... This should be purely related to KJY and IR with comments related to the songs and their beauty.. Awaiting your responses....

  Isn't that a mind-blowing number? Flute has been used very innovatively by IR in this song and it looks like the flautist has freaked out on the composition! It lends Yesudas great support.
  
  Azhage Azhagu Devathai (from RajaParvai) is another gem from this duo. One of the soft numbers that contributed to the success of the music scores for Kamal's earlier films, this has a very soothing feeling when you listen to it (especially with the lights off).
  
  Well, in the film too, the blind hero sings this song (or is it a BG?) while describing the heroine from head to toe. In fact, one thing that I observed in the lyrics was:
  
  "Poovilaadum Kodiyai Pola Idayaik Kaangiren;
  POga Poga VAzhai POla Azhagai Kaangiren"
  
  I feel it should've been 'Thodaiyai Kaangiren', going with the edugai Monai. Perhaps the 'moral brigade' changed it later on!

  1.kanavil midhakkum (EVK).Probably the best song of this Duo. this song is similar to uRavugaL thodarkadai with KJY singing it the way he did for en iniya pon nilAvE.

  masterpiece duets. A small digression... K.J.Y is
  performing live on the 21st at the open air theatre
  in I.I.T Madras, as a part of the culfest 'Saarang 99',,..
  previously known as Mardi Gras ! Its a light music
  show.. and that means a lot of IR songs.. I'm not

  I think that the most touching gems by IR and KJ are:
  
  Kannae Kalaimaanae- this song is the last written by poet Kannadaasan. When you listen to the soft lullaby you can't think of anything beyond it's mesmerizing beauty. One gets an illusion that the song was not written for the movie at all. The poet was singing to his beautiful language, Tamil. Lines such as
  
  'Kaadhal Kondaen Kanavinai vallarthean, Kanmani unnai naan....' so's how much he loved tamil.
  
  'Neeyo kili pedu, pann paadum anantha kuyil..' Here he potrays that tamil is like a bird, that sings. And all of you must know the beauty of a birds singing as the sun rises.
  
  'Aeno theivam sathi seithathu, peathai polla...'
  Right here he explains how god has made something to tamil, because she may be beautiful and pleasant and enriched, but she is not accepted.
  
  And KJ with his haunting was has given the best of emotions. I don't know how to say it. The steadiness of the song, it doesn't make you cry or dance, really is superb. All a person can do when they listen to this song is think, how wonderful it was that even if this person was to have died, it was great that his last work was a masterpiece given to this tamil world.
  
  Amma Enralaikaatha- This is a song that is never missed on mothers day. What I love about this song is how well it depicts the love of a child for his/her mother. Many people have had bitter fights and so but I think that if you play this song to tell her how you feel about her, all will be well.
  
  Kaanavu Kaanum- A song that has haunted me ever since I was a little girl of eight or nine. I didn't understand the meaning then, but now when I listen to the song, I can feel how true it is with life. All these dreams of people that never make sense. All these facts that we never like to face. These adolescent years that pass too quickly even to realize that WOW! I am not that young anymore.
  
  Vaalvaey Maayam- a song that deserves a bravo for KJ's singing. I have even cried after hearing this song. All the hardcore facts, all the meanings come only at the point of death.
