Yesudas and Illayaraja

With so many topics opened, I have not seen one that discussed these two great musicians. Yesudas and IR have provided TFM some soothing melodies and wonderful songs. Let me start by opening the thread with "Edho Ninaivugal" ... This song has mesmerized me for a long time. Please bring out the best songs with these two and I would personally like to get a list of the songs and keep it safe for a million years.

PS :: Please for heaven sake do not drag ARR into this... This should be purely related to KJY and IR with comments related to the songs and their beauty.. Awaiting your responses....

  Enna DesamO is truly a terrific number, but the credit for the pallavi(opening stanza) goes the great RD Burman for composing this song in the movie 'Kati Pathang'. Original song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar as 'Naa koyi Umang he..' If you listen to Lata's version it is even better!!
  
  However, the interludes and charanams are Raja's own. They are good too. But please give credit where it is due--Well done RDB!! Why did Raja copy the pallavi?--Did he like it so much? Did he do it under pressure from Balu-Mahendra? (who has apparently pressured him once to copy the song 'Kasme vaade pyar vafa..' as 'Kanavu kaanum vazhakai yaavum..' in the movie NeengaL Ketavai)

  Though I have always thought KJY is not suited for dapanguthu songs, I have found some good dapanguthu songs by KJY -
  IR compositions (based on carnatic, I Guess). I can remember only two now: 1. thani thotti thedi vantha - Sindhu Bhairavi 2.

  "oru Kiliyin Thanimayile Chiru Kiliyin Uravu; Chiru Kiliyin Uravinile Pudukkili Ondru Varavu" is a great song by the IR-KJY-Chitra team. The lyrics are very good too...the first few lines sum up the story of the film.
  
  In fact have you noticed that the Fazil-IR-Yesudas combo has always given some good music?
  Manjil Virinja Pookkal (Mal), Poove Poochhooda Vaa, Poo Vizhi Vasalile, Bommukkutti Ammavukku, Arangetra Velai, KiliPechu Ketka Va and of course Kadalukku Mariyadai... they all had some excellent numbers by Yesudas.

  A small diversion: KJY has not retired from the music scene, to live in Florida. Even though he has drastically cut down the number of new movie songs, he is very busy with concerts, mostly classical. In fact, he conducted 14 concerts in December, and will be doing another 12

  Talking of Oru Kaithiyin Diary, the great song, Pon Maane Kobam Eno is by a new singer that Raja introduced. I forgot his name, some Ramesh or something.. Dis he also sing for Jappanil Kalyana Raman and is he still around in the music scene? What happened Saibaba, another guy that IR introduced?

  "Pon maanei kobam eno..." was sung by Unni Menon, who was introduced to TFM by Ilaiyaraja under the name Vijay. He still sings in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi films, even though not too frequently.
