One more thing swamiji,
there is nothing wrong in really comparing two greats in a field in their work like this...
anything two things can be compared if it has something in common among them.....the common thing abt IR and ARR is music and we are all music lovers I luv IR and like ARR so much.
Ive played many of their songs like u do.....
still something makes me feel good and makes me feel like a musician when I take the notes and beats of IR. But I rather feel like a technician when I work on ARRs song ...... that may be my limitation ........

Well, I cant dispute much, as I would like to compose myself some day. I follow the steps our MDs have shown us, and ARR has certainly impacted how I listen to sounds - because he listens to things which is not so obvious to me at first. HJ has certainly showed talent, but not the maturity which ARR has shown. It will come with time, let us see. Let us see if he can be different.
With regards to your playing ARR numbers, I really can't tell how close u did to the original unless I hear personally. You have to understand sequencing / sampling sounds if you really want to know. Just playing factory-programmed sounds will also sound good, but not like the original. You are talking about live playing, whereas I am talking about roecording in a studio. There is some difference I think...
Please dont compare...We compare when we know music..., atleast I feel I dont know much even after learning all this time...Its best to keep listening to music and enjoy it...I certainly wont compare when I myself am half learnt...

Best of luck for ur plans of becoming a MD........
I have one doubt swamiji,,, what do u call unique in rehman??? u call him unique compared to indian MDs or on the world wide......
When I say IR is unique I say so world wide.....
Hope uve read those articles by john scott.....

Like I said, I wouldnt like to compare. IR is a genius & thats it. ARR is doing lots of wonderful things to movies...I enjoy it. So why do I have to compare and spoil my mood? The truth is simply that IR is beyond comparison, for what he had done to music is priceless. I don't have to read John Scotts article, because I know it myslef.
ARR is giving us great music and dont tell me he is not unique. If he was not, believe me I wouldnt be listening to him.
Once again, no comparison ;)

Hey nooooooooooo u misunderstood my question I never said ARR is not unique...... please tell me ,
rather throw some light on how is he unique????
like how we discussed abt IR's songs .... we can discuss abt ARR's songs' uniqueness.....

or in other words how is he different from a Michael Jackson or beetles or britney spears.......
I personally feel he has brought western POP way of composition into indian music....
Its like shifting from dhothi's to Jeans....

swamiji, i see a nice change in you.
Arr is unique, i have been telling/screaming/shouting/ here the same thing for last 4 years.
unique eg: jazzorgan piece in ena solli from thenali - the sound/the chord and the inversion/the placement, all this has to match to get the right output....all this for just about 4 bars....he does it pretty well)

Makes sense. ARR had actually proved that there's creative life even after IR. After in the sense...I dont mean IR is out...but in terms of what IR has shown in film music...ARR merely opened up another way you can differentiate and be successful.
Every stronghold has to be conceded some time or other and fans of the earlier regime will definitely hold on to their loyalty for a long time to come. Moreso when IR is still winning with scores like Friends and Kathalukku Mariyathai.
A real test of skills will be when both of them start composing for movies which are accepted internationally. Mani's alaipayuthey is there in all cine festivals abroad primarily 'cos of Mani's past track record and most of them comment on AP's lack of impact!
A movie like Shaji Karun's Vanaprastham could open up avenues worldwide convincingly. Incidentally Zakhir Hussain was the man behind Vanaprashtam!

Flifo:
Sorry, I shouldn't have used your name. What to do? Since, I have been postion my earlier postion addressing you, it just came like that. Pazhakka Dhosham.
I am seeing a change in the mood of the people here? What happened? All, along you people seem to bash ARR and now it seems some of you have accepted him a MD.
Karthik S :
Well said. That is what I am also trying to say. There is also music without IR.
Arun:
I agree with U to some extent. I just want to give a simple way to find out whether a song B is copy of song A. If you feel that song B with lyrics B1 is a copied version of song A with lyrics A1 then U should be able to sing the same song B with lyrics A1. If they match closely to a large extent then, U can call it a pakka copy. If just a small sentence or few word sounds , or a little music piece resembles a little portion of song A then, I would rather give the benefit of doubt to song B. I thing some of ARR songs that we are discussing here as being copied, should get the benefit of doubt. I don't think that he has lifted a complete song and used his name for it. He has always put more that 80% of his stuff.

Today, I was seeing a movie in Sun TV. It was Rajakumaran. MD is IR. There is a song in the film
"Yennavendru solvathamma, Vanchi Aval PErazhagai",
for my little brain, this song very much sounded like Maragada mani's number in "Azhagan". The song is "Jadhimalli Poocharame, sanga tamizh pachcharame" The thing I noticed is, the later is a slow one and this one is a bit fast with some good beat.
The way to find a lift, which I posted in my previous posting, seems to apply here.
Comments and clarification please.
Also, try this.
"KEladi en pavaiye, adavan un thevaie" and "Yaaradi nee mogini, kooradi yen kanmani"
"Ooo party nalla party than, ooo beutyinna beuty than" and "ooo parvathi, padippu iththana".
I thing you all new the films.

I watched vAnaprastham..The BGM was nothing great. It had some humming which was sounded hindustani to me. There were quite a few BGM music which were tabla based. But I think the choice fell on Zakir Hussain because there is so much importance to percussion/rhythm in the movie.

Karthick S,
"ARR proved that creativity is there even after IR is out.."
what do you mean by creativity? Is it something that we can borrow/hire from somebody else?
Using same key-board sticks for ever is creativity? Or on the name of encouraging new talents, killing the lyrics is creativity?
what is he creating? I don't understand.
He is not even experimenting like IR.IR does lot of experiments in using orchestra, changing raagas etc..don't tell me that ARR experiments with singers.
Can ARR compose music for Salangai oli(semi-carnatic?
Can ARR compose music for Sindhubhairavi,Kaadal ovyum(pure carnatic)?
Can ARR compose music for Anjali?(Children oriented)
Can ARR compose music for Sirachhalai?(Patriotic)
Tell me great duets of ARR,Tell me few melo dramatic songs of ARR,list few pathos of ARR,
show me great situational songs of ARR...
Creater(maestro?) should capable of doing all sorts of music...not just 6 commercial songs.

Krishna whatever u said is true.... First ten years of IR's carreer is incomparable with any Music Director ever lived........ ARR has done a fair and decent job..........
One problem was IR had ego clashes with Big Banner Directors.............and fights with lyricists ans singers..........
U know people get that problem once they reach the top and once they become oncious of their position.........
I think ARR is reaching that stage...... already picked up a fight with Vairamuthu.....
But u know raaja had composed more that 500 movies in his first 10 years in more than 5 different languages............
ARR had not even reached his 100 till now.......
He was lucky to have these media coverage and the ego clashes of IR with other directors.....lucky to have known Hindi and get some good hindi chance.....IR is still there in the field lets see how good he is coping up the pressure ........

SK ,
I would say there is a chance of simillarity in the first two songs but very slight resemblence
and the notes in the first line itself is very different rom the second one
But , I dont know which movie came first, azhagan or the other one?
The second song is totally out of similarity the tunes are very different and ragas are also different.........
Ive never heard the old version in ur third song comparison so I cant say......
But please understand onething Raja had done more that 6000 songs and u cant point out more than 50 songs like this......
But ARR had not done even 500 songs so far and u can find atleast 20 songs to my knowledge which has impact of other songs........
