Of late there had been enough panning on Deva for giving wonderful "remix / xerox" songs. But I feel that he has done a decent job in giving some original compositions too. eg.
(1)Porul thedum bhoomiyil (By chitra in Kalki)
(2)Metti Metti velli metti (By SJ in Pullai kuttikkaran)
(3)Konja Naal Poruthalaiva
(4)Un udhattoram sivappai
I wish TFM fans contribute to this thread without digressing to cast criticizms on him.

Magi,
I accept that Deva is a cheap nice product, TF industry utilizes. was even happy when I read that Deva composed and wrote lyrics for a song in one of the new movies, in just 2 hours, when our old friend Vairamuthu was stumbling for words(for the same song).
But, cant u accept that Deva is just filling the gaps in his songs. even in industry he is shining because he is demands lesser money. will somebody sell a product for lesser money if is good qualitywise?
TF industry is just using him as a filler for the gap IR has created with his demands and ego (I cant blame IR, any talented person will do that).
Is anything wrong in my view?

Hi Srinath: I really didn't expect to see you in this thread:-) No doubt the song "Mudhan mudhalil paarthen" IS a copy of "Sochenge Tumhe..." from Deewana.
I think Deva is one of the few MDs(if not the only one!) who has put Sinhalese "Baila" style to some good use in TFM. I think the song 'Hey Gnanam' from Indhu has some baila influence . There are a few more of these, I just can't remember them at the moment. Also his Dappanguthu songs usually carry one rhythm/beat (like in Punjabi folk music), which quite different from other MDs'. For example, we can see the difference in IR's Ayya Veedu(KM) to Deva's Kundrathile koyil (Nesam). This could be one distinct feature of Deva.
Hi Udhaya,
Nice to have you back in the DF!! I think Deva's quality(if he had any!!) is very low now compared to his earlier works. I liked his songs like "Thenamara Thoppukulle Kuyile, & Intha Therkku Theru Machan" from the film Therku Theru Machan. The melody was nice although the orchestration resembled IR's songs. But now he only cares about making some quick money and therefore does not waste any time in "thinking". Rather he prefers to do a research for his songs and find out what people like in different parts of the country & the world:-) By encouraging this we are only giving more room for other 'Devas' to come up in TFM.

Guys,
Just buy a Yamaha porasound, play a readymade beat and chord pattern, try to play a melody for the beat, you idea will sound better than DEVA's,
Deva lacks creativity, just belives in his sound gadgets. Lead, bgm, vocal track he sets are very poor, a music school beginer will create a better one.
I heard a song called "made for eachother" in Devaraja - I was above to puke in my car after hearing the cat strangling scream from Swaranalatha and gang = Thougth it is original noise, we cannot accept it as music.
We human beings cannot bray like a donkey or grunt like a pig, though they are considered as original sounds it is not something great.
DEVA's cacaphony is similar to the above.
Do not waste you time in discussing on DEVA.
He is a total waste, just his good time - he is making money. There are many good composers without a break. Given a chance they will do better.
PLEASE STOP DISCUSSING ABOUT DACOIT DEVA..

Well said Srikanth.
Though some of Deva tunes are good, once I came to know about the original tunes, I cant give the credit to Deva, no more accept him as great. I cant appreciate any one who lacks originality. He lost his credibilty as a MD. One of two songs may have similarity with other tunes which we can tell he is inspired. But many a number really tells about the MD.
But the time in TFM is his. As long as this continues, we cant do anything about that.

I am sorry to write this. But no way. It is better if everybody contributing, reads the title of the thread and the requests of the persons who had positively contributed prior to them. I pleaded no malice on Deva but I find thathe discussion is once again heading towards familiar unpleasant direction. please restrict your postings to original melodies of Deva only.

I watched the Kannada movie Amrutavarshini. I rate it the best (original??) effort of Deva. I think the main reason was that the movie itself was so good and the songs definitely did not interfere with the movie. Also, the BGM for the film was good.

Hi,
If u see every one of Deva's recent releases, it is easy to find a minimum of 3-4 straight lifts.I mean how can he call himself Thenisai Thendral Deva when he flicks left-right-centre.Regarding this thread,I thought this would be the smallest thread in the DF but since Deva's originals have derived inspiration from some other MD(May be not as blatantly as his other songs) this thread is going to be a big one.How about changing the thread to Inspiraions of DEva's original songs.
Bye

Hi Udhaya,
The Deva song "Uyire Uyire Nalamthana" is a straight lift of "Chalte Chalte Yun hi koi" from Pakeezah (MDs: Gulam Mohd & Naushad). You might have been thinking about Kishore Kumar's "Chalte Chalte"..
- From: Udhaya (@ 205.218.142.217)
on: Mon Oct 26 16:11:58 EST 1998
You're right Dev, I stand corrected. I was indeed thinking of the old Kishore song.
Srikanth,
I feel your pain and empathize with your views since you're a talented musician waiting for a big break who can't digest a copycat getting popular.
But the common public is not as discerning a listener as you, and you have to understand there's a need for casual, easily hummable songs as well.
The more players in the industry the better, is my opinion. Increase the variety that we get, spread success around so everybody works harder. The success of Deva, Sirpi, and other bottom feeders set the tone for producers to take a chance on promising newcomers like, "Philip & Jerry" and "Agosh". I prefer the free-market better than a monopoly anyday.
In time, the poor imitators will be marginalized by the market, anyone heard of Shankar Ganesh, Chandrabose, or Shyam lately? Once the quantity of the bad tunes outdoes the good tunes, these guys will disappear from music.

IR has left no areas for DEVA to explore at present for composing any originals of his own. Whatever he does out of any inspiration will only turn out to be tune already created by IR or lisft from western tune. Poor guy has been taken for a fide by all critics inspite of songs being good. It will be a futile exercise to make a list of any "originals" . I think DEVA has to go underground for a few years and come back later so that he gives people a chance to forget this episode. POOR CHAP!

in spite of IR exploring the many facets of music , ARR was able to come up with a new style and carve a niche for himself. that deva is not able to do the same speaks poorly of his musical talents. no use pitying on him!!!

Sure,
ARR came up with new style and carve a niche for himself, and hence the downfall of IR! No use pitying DEVA, pity IR instead. I wellcome newcomers like Vidyasagar to give more melodies like "malare mounama " and "nee kAtru".
BTW, The following list of DEVA songs from kannethirE thodrinAL are still unchallenged for his originality
1)kanavE kalaiyAthE
2)chinna chinna kuyilE

..."pity IR instead".....
i can't help but pity u. i do not want to digress from the main topic but the fact is IR after 25 years still continues to surprise people. ARR who has caused the so called 'downfall' of IR has already become stale and does no more than a couple of films per year, more than half the songs of which are mediocre. whom should i pity now?

f_of_arr_bashers:
There is a special thread which caters to your taste - "Rahman Bashers". But please don't try searching for it using "Rahman" and "Bashers" - because that search will probably return all the threads in the DF ! I strongly urge you to revive that thread or start a sequel to it !
