i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.
1.Vedha:i know he always go for a hindi tune in his films(mostly for Modern theatres). No alterations! he just copy a full hindi song !
best examble:Manam ennum medai mele(Gil tho ye kulu yahag)
2.MSV: i hear that(from Sujatha's book"Neerkumiligal") "thulluvatho elamai" was a song copied from english to almost all famous indian langages. Is there any other songs MSV copied?
3.Illayaraja:Even the GOD of MUSIC Raja sir did some thing like this.He just used that "I love you"style from BOneyM Sunny for "darling darling"in priya.I have heard a totally same song like "Kanavu kanum valkkai yavum" in Hindi also.(i forgot the film).
and i dont know who is the MD for the song"ehu pal vadiyum mugam! ethai parpathu than sugam".But i heard the same song in an english film.
4.ARR : i was told from my friends that he did copying intelligently.drum beats and some music styels from cassettes like "enigma, ace of base".And the humming before the song "thillana thillana" is a 100%copy from the film"the island of Dr.Mozeru".
5.SA Rajkumar : a lot of help from hindi! best example "mallikai puve malligai puve parthaya" from "didi tera thevaru thevana"
5.DEVA:hee..hee..the master.(better we see how many songs he did on his own instead of seeing how many songs he copied!)
like wise there is a lot of songs are copied from Tamil to Hindi also..
Now its your turn friends....

hello rajaG,
don't go ballistic over these things. only helps in sc**ing up your health. admittedly, IR is too good. no doubts. I was only trying to put in my observations. and if u think "subhalekha" and "ek din" don't sound similar (only the pallavi part that too the first line. could be the same raGa from which both have been taken .. I dunno and don't care .. simply) .. u sure should check your hearing.
and about "aamani padave" and "vidhaata thalapula" I never said, there was anything more in common. only the flute prelude was the common thing.
and why no comments about the other "bababba" thing? am waiting....

in carnatic music the words
...tha dheereenana is often used in alapanai,
mr irarr have you heard about jazz scating...baa baa baa is somewhat similar to jazz scats.
they are like our thadha reeenaa naa's ...
can be used by anyone..

also in the song, (pudhu mappilaiku)
pallavi is in G...and uses the std wc chord progression g, dmaj7th..g...dmaj7th.,
since the harmony is same it sounds like the song you have told. this is not copy.

If u dont care, why dont you leave it there?? why bother to accuse a MD of copying? Just bcoz you have cared to make an accusation, that too, on most flimpsy grounds, there have been rebuttals. There have been lots of discussions that have happened in this forum that have discussed copied, recycled and inspired songs, and the differences between these. It is easy to brand a song as a 'copy" just because they are based on same raga, or due to similarity in some notes. It is incorrect to do so.

"Apart fom both aamani paadavEy and vidHaatha have flute preludes, there is nothing in common (in terms of notes) for these two songs. And by the way, there are tons of songs which have flute preludes"
Please check! They have flute preludes BUT they do not have the same preludes. Thanks for your medical advice. I take it as a 'normal rejoinder' from somebody whose 'cr*p' posted here under the guise of 'argument' is refuted by anybody with an iota of musical sense. You know what! Been there, Done that!!

aaaaaaaaargh!! rajaG u suck big time ....
take this as an abnormal rejoinder now ... I HAVE to repeat my medical advice no go ... go and check your music system that plays the flute parts "differently" .. very nice .. and why such cheap tricks of giving the email ID as something else?? :))))
and chandy man, many thanks for giving u'r erudite advice. pray, why the same reasons (SIMILAR notes) don't apply to other MDs. IR is good and anyone who questions that is mad. but one should not be so closed minded. he had himself stated in some interview "we MDs fool people 'cuz we only do all possible permutations and combo..s of the sArigama...s and there's a high probab''ty of one criss crossing the other's tune" ..

well ir_arr, the reason for giving fake email ID's is to escape the JUNK mails sent by JUNK people's who claim others SUCK (and that too big time)

Well said, MS.
Which song came first: "Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyalia"
or
"Veesulaavude(?) ThEn MalarAle", a great oldie in Raga Sohni (HamsAnandi)sung by A.M. Raja and Susheela(?)
If the MD is Veda, I've got my answer ;)
See how well the ANAGRAM suits the MDs?

Can anyone tell me whose the MD for the song "devi koondhalo.. brindavanam"? Its a lift from Frank Zappa's "Happy Together" from his album Filmore East: June 1971.
It sucks if u really like a song and come to know later that its a copy. As far as I know, it happens only in Indian music industry. Some english bands get influenced by the other.. but they dont copy the tune or interlude. Namma oorla dhan ippadi nadakudhu.

`vizhikaL meenO, mozhikaL thEnO' is an SPB song from the Prabhu starrer `ragangaL mARuvathillai' which resembles the `vaishnava janatO' of Hey Ram -as per my hearing & discerning abilities:-)
I know the `vaishnava' song is quite old (DKP?) and hence the IR-SPB song should be an inspiration. Any comments from `rAgA-knowledgable' DF'ers?

It's not surprising because the MD for `dEvi koonthalO' is SG:-)

Guru(Malayalam)'s title music is inspired from the famous "Greensleeves" composed by Vaughan Williams.
- From: SRK (@ icache-3.doit.wisc.edu)
on: Fri Apr 7 03:53:21 EDT 2000
Modification:
The violin piece in the title music of Guru (mal) is very similar to a famous Kenny G sax piece (I forget the name) which itself is similar (I guess in the same ragam) to Greensleeves, hence the confusion above.

Recently watched En Swasa Kaatrey -quite bad, songs badly picturized, for the last fight in the movie the background beat was a straight lift from Last Emperor's main theme.

songs picturized badly-not arr's fault
bgm beat lift-bgm was by sabesh-murali
so..what's new?

Kooja:
Nothing's new. When the background music is discussed, it will be ARR's name that most people remember and not Sabesh-Murali. As far as the picturization of songs, I saw the movie for the songs and was disappointed.

Regarding "devi koondhalo..". I heard "Frank Zappa" version. I dont remember hearing "devi koondhalo...", but there was a movie named "Sigaram" (music : SPB), in which, there is a song "Muthama..." (dont remember the lyrics, this song was not famous in that movie and I dont have this cassette now) almost resembles "Frank Zappa" song.
Just an observation.

1.the beginning music of annaamalai annamalai was a straight from Beethoven`s fifth symphony.
2.the interludes of the first song from avvai shanmughi was from tchakovsky`s nutcracker suite.
3.chittukuruvi,vekkappaduthu-from chinnaveedu -beginning is a straight from beginning of 3rd movement of dvorak`s Symphony no.9
4.en manadhu onrudhan-beginning a straight from fur elise(beethoven)
5.I have note to note tune of beginning of Raasathi en usuru(thirudaa, thirudaa)in WCM piece I cannot remember.
6.note to note tune of oruvan oruvan mudhalali-of all places as a background music for a video game.
7.tune of anubhavam pudhumai(kadhalikka neramillai)from a Paul Mariat piece.
8.Kann malargalin azhaippidhazh-again a paul mariat tune.
9.following songs bear a strong resemblance to each other:
earlier:Nadhavinodhankal
later :indhira logathu sundari
samaja varahamana and dharisanam kidaikkadha(alaigal oivadillai)
pesum manimuthu rojakkal and pennalla pennalla(Uzhavan)
thangapadhakkathin meley and enna vilai azhaghe(Kadhalar dhinam)
- From: MS (@ 129.252.22.9)

prakash:
9 is not acceptable. Samaja varahamana comes close definitely. I am ignorant of other "originals".
I think we should start a site (a decent one:-) for all the copied songs aginst their original numbers. May be I will if I obtain the originals from Dfers..Any takers ?
