i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.

Vijay:
BOth the songs have cut and paste operations. The russian composition fell in aanantha bhairavi accidentally. ARR has just polished with a lot of gamakam and rich orchestration.
Bombay theme is a short song. Has a maximum of 5 or 6 lines being repeated with different orchestral patterns. Both the flute and the violin portions have been "influenced" (being mild helps :-)by its russian counterpart. There is a note-by-note resemblance though effectively made not apparent through the microtones.
OTOH, three of the poovilum uNdu's lines have been inducted from pipo's guitar piece. But the song itself has a lot of lines (especially sharanam has nothing to do with the original). Even in the pallavi, the line "thinam thinam aanantham aananthamE" and the one before that, have nothing to with the original.
If both( IR and ARR) have taken the original as it is and done some tapestry, I believe they are on the same boat.

First of all how to belive this is a russian orchestra, this sounds more like a synth, I feel this is from a single keyboard
a combination sound like a organ and a synth pad.
or a huge church organ.
Who knows someone might have recorded by themselves. Unless the composer and the performers are mentioned it is bound to be a false statement.

MS,
I never said that the whole song of endha poovilum vaasam undu was a copy. it was only the pallavi part and it is 90% cut and paste. the tune is similiar upto thinam thinam anantham but in the tamil version IR changes scale after anatham and the part 'me.....' stretched by SJ sounds different. except for that everything is a cut and paste. especially the first 2 lines are ditto. i have never seen such a perfect copy;))
regarding bombay theme ARR has definitely modified the original theme and given it a classical touch. u can say he has 'indianised' it as u said with gamakams etc. thas why i said it was not a perfect note to note copy.
if u play both the original and ARRs theme in your keyboard u can find easily that its not a ctrl C and V operation.

fan,
there was small confusion there, thanx;))
if the original(of bombay theme) is really original, i would definitely like to know the source.
as for that chittukuruvi song i heard the original which has been listed in the copied songs page. asmall piece in that resembles the first line of the tamil song somewhat. the tunes were different but the sandham was strikingly similiar.

Well, this is my source for the russian theme. But believe me I dont believe this could have been the inspiration for ARR's Bombay theme. May be it could be the other way round, rather somebody's version of ARR's theme. Because the so called orchestra sounds like a single organ's handywork and the file itself has a lot of noise. But the person who posted it was Krish Ashwin a cousin of ManiRathnam, who is also an admin for ARR's official site and a flutist himself. He I believe also plays for ARR. But later he did not reveal any further data on this. U can track this yourself in that egroup.

The opening lines of "intha pachchaikiLi thunbamE uNmaiyaa uNmaiyaa , ingu paavap patta jenmamaE peNmaiyaa peNmaiyaa" (song has shivaranjini in both raagam and the picturization :-)) is a lift from "gaaO mErE mann chaahEin suraj chamaknE chaahEin la gaa hO graHaN" - a KJY hindi song.

haris..... thanks for the link.... hmmm... man if the RAM is by someone else, then its an appatamana copy..... but i have my own doubts about this..... i really really doubt if IR would do an exact Ctrl C and V..... if he has done (leave out the Kanavu Kaaanuum song in Neengal Ketavai), then this is very very bad to his image..... but still i doubt something.....

After hearing the piece for some time now, the playing style creates a doubt, this sounds more like flanged electric guitar,
Someone played "entha povilum" in collage culturals or some get together ?, vivaldis score I know is not 100% like "entha povilum". I have my doubts..

Sabesan and other skeptics,
BTW, it is Antonio Ruiz Pipo's guitar piece (Entha poovilum) and not by "Antonio Vivaldi" even though they happen to share the same first name. Plus go get your own CD if you want to listen to the original score. Amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ts/music-glance/B000001VKQ/qid=964750498/sr=1-7/104-3297647-3964701
It is piece no. 10 (Cancione et danza: 1. Canzione). It is a pretty famous piece, so there is no doubt about the flixk BTW.

Hi,
Listen to the song Scarborough Fair by Simon & Garfunkel.
http://members.xoom.com/sswamy/audio/scar.ram
Listen to Tu Hi Tu by ARR from Kabhi Na Khabi.
I would say it is something more than an inspiration.

Amplitude,
u are right. there is definitely a resemblance between the first line of the original and the first line of the hindi song. But like other ARR inspired songs the inspirations stops there and then the hindi song is totally different. there is a 50% chance that it might have been pure coincidence but since the original is so popular u never know.
