Too many posters are using other topics to discuss/slam/comment/praise IR/ARR that I thought we could use this one thread as a catch all for all those posts. Welcome guys!!!

Srikanth,
I feel it would be better if u would list down your 10 points as quickly as possible, otherwise this thread is going to digress into side-topics and we are going to miss the actual thing.

Dear Friends,
IL always better than AR
IL music mesmerises everyone, but AR music is technically perfect
IL music, you can hear them in even old transisters, you can enjoy. But AR music you need a hi-fi system to enjoy

dr.vadivelu is very right, arr's music appeals only with hi-fi systems, not elsewhere.
thats a tragedy in a country like india where majority are poor.more than everything availability is important.

DR.SKV
Can you please explain what is meant by `IR always better than AR'? On what grounds would you say that your staement is correct.
Qulity of sound is proportionate to a numberof things such as playing equipment and listening equipment.I can't see how IR music would sound better than AR music in an OLD TRANSISTER!
If IR music mesmerises,I'm sure AR music would make you tap your feet(of course if you are impartial to IR OR AR)
SANDYA
Poor nation is the one that blasted nucler bombs and is also the nation that produces the most number of movies in the world.I think an average family would be able to afford a reasonably good music system.
This in no way justifies to say IR music is better than AR music..

TRANSISTER should read as TRANSISTOR
Also the most expensive wedding(?in the world) was also in the poor nation-particularly in Madras (Chennai).

Srinath,
Was ARR questioned by CBI for providing the reception light music? Can you provide some more details? Actually at that time, in Junior Vikatan, they published an article on this and said that "who else in TN can afford for ARR to provide light music for a reception except for JJ?"
- From: SM (@ nat01smurugap.sgum.mci.com)
on: Thu Sep 9 16:16:31 EDT 1999
Was the harassment because of the doubt that ARR must have been paid a huge sum for providing the light music or something else?
- From: Srinath (@ mail.startec.net)
on: Thu Sep 9 16:31:19 EDT 1999
Yes, it was because it was rumoured that ARR received black money from JJ. When he denied it, the junk media claimed that ARR was threatened to play ! Panam vaanginaalum thappu, vaangalainaalum thappu :-) I remember reading that ARR was troubled for a couple of days but it didn't blow up into anything big.

IR have hailed as the best music director for solid 20 years....who can beat his record....even now when u hear the 80's songs...it's fantastic. i don't think AR can stay long like IR....when there are so many new music directors coming up.

Kalaiyarsi
Is your prediction of ARR will not last long a professional opinion?
I can only sympathise with your short sightedness.
In my view IR is the bridging factor between the old songs era and the presnt era.One needs only to compare the music of 50's/60's and70's/80's and the 90's to see the transition.
From my observations the younger generation of Tamizlians(especially the one living in Western countries)seem to drop out of listening Tamizl songs. But,this situation started to take a turn with ARR music(along with Prabu Deva dance). The eye opener being the movie Gentleman.
Of course there are other MDs who are equally good-such as DEVA for folk/comedy songs.
I think ARRs skills of mixing eastern and western music should not be underestimated...I see this blending as winning back the dropouts of Tamil music listeners.
Anyway I think this thread should not have started as IR VS ARR.They should have started seperate thread for each to evaluate each's qualities and skills.

bTW:"Srikanth does it all the time. Whenever he needs an ego boost, he would put some crap and then vanish. " --
btw he does not hatch eggs at home, he as work load which I know pretty well. Never under estimate anyone...do not make it a personal issue. as far as I know Srikanth is cool and soft spoken guy personally,
None of the IR fans were able to come up with facts, he is just waiting for some the great IR fans here who just do not know what IR has done to tfm.

Mr.K a.k.a. Clarification,
Well said. I too don't agree with Karthik Subramaniam's statement on Srikanth. But, please look at what you have written :
> None of the IR fans were able to come up with
> facts, he is just waiting for some the great IR
> fans here who just do not know what IR has done
> to tfm.
Why do you have to make this statement generalizing all IR fans? There are lot of ignorant fans (like me) who don't know what IR has done new to TFM and at the same time we are eager to know what he has done. IR enna pudhusa pannittaarunnu theriyaama avarukku fana irukka koodaadha? Besides that, why is Srikanth waiting for the 'great' IR fans to answer his question when he (and you) know that they don't know what IR has done new to TFM.

Hi guys:
I recently watched "Kadhalar Thinam" during my trip to India. I was surprized to see a background score which sounded very similar, at places, to IR's background score in movies. What I mean is that composing backgroud score following the style of chamber music, with a few violins, chells and other peripherals. I noticed this distinctly in this movie, since I have never heard (may be I missed) ARR composing in the chamber orchestra style in any other movie. All I had heard (Roja, Gentleman, Uyirae etc.) was some clever use of organs and other electronic gadgetry. Has anyone out there noticed this ?
