Compare and Contrast IR's musical style(s), especially with the BGM tracks, with those of composers of Hollywood, viz., Maurice Jarre, Henri Mancini, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernstein, John Barry, Alan Sylvistri, Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, James Horner and so on

Osho, the first joinin was seamless!!!! but, someone said this song was inspired. i won't believe it. anwya, i heard this old song of PS in Ooty Varai Uravu, Thedinen Vandhathu, ( amazing, amazing, i've not heard a western song of this level of the 60s) i am asking then this (song is also a copied one, if IR' is inspired.
(btw, your earlier interludes could not be accessed at all.)

Gyan, glad that you liked it. Theres a thin line when you have to compose for rock and roll isnt it. Now, if IR hadnt composed the rum bum bum song as it is , then i dont believe that the song would have reached as many as it have done so.
Also as of inspiration, some of the claims like Pootukkal Pootatha from sathriyan is a inspired version is absurd. But cant we agree that inspiration is fine (even good) but blatant copying (even loop pickup) is crime.

When the guy cant make consistent hits we have to do something called Project Gem.
Collecting 100-200 songs from 4000+, this is joke.
IIR high time pulls his socks and decides to put efforts while composing songs.
Gunduchattila Gudirai ottara mari he does what he has been doing for 25 years.
What was the reason IIR gave when Friends songs were deplorable?
There are so many things that can be done in music, no composer has gone to greatness by the quantity of his tunes, only by how different and innovative he is.
IIR has proved to younger composers that scoring 700 movies like elephants shi*t will take them nowhere. Now people are doing less films and concentrating on quality.
IIR should learn this instead of wasting public money for Thiruvasakam.
He is too lazy to be consistent these days. In his younger days he was too lazy to score for less films and be innovative.
Not a surprise everyone including his dear friend Bharathyraaja has left IIR.

have Osho or k or folks here heard of these:
1. Radio Srilanka used to play a introudction them like "Don't Compare" (but with trumpets and percussion ) of How To Name It in a particular program in the late 70s for a mallu program called "Marivillu" I think it is IR, it is simply mind blowing, but it could be a Hindi composer.
2. Nammoora Mandara Hoove, title music in the beginning is also unique.

Gyan,
Not sure about the Radio Srilanka intro theme, coz i havent heard them, but there are a few more lifts from How to Name it. One thing that immediately comes to my mind is by MD Ravindran for his musical Block buster "Bharatham (1991)" , a malayalam film. The song "Ramakadha", sung by KJY had a small bit being ripped from HTNI?.
Listen when KJY sings the line "Sama gana lahiryode anayu ramaaaa...." and the HTNI? no 2 track in the cd from 2:30 to 3:00 .

Dear all,
I have been postponing my comments on the recent IIR visit.
Here it is!
IIR visited NC,DC,Connecticut, NY and NJ during his short visit and you have had all the reports from Prabhu, Prabhudas, and Thoppus on the various aspects of his speeches.
Here is what we have to say.
IIR has shown the true aspect of himself in making himself accessible to the common man[not mental men] and behaved exemplarilly well with everyone, identifying his pleasant nature and answering to even adversry comments without anger and malice[unlike these mental ones].
He showeed his extreme generosity in accepting to attend all the functions we had arranged without a grimace and with a smile and appeared on the stages with his charm and smile and made great speaches. He brought out the greatness of Thiruvasakam and said why he is doing this now.
I want to admit here with guilt that he is doing this at this moment not for money as many would think. He has money to take care of his life and family. He has made his sons their own names and livelihood and so, he doesn't have to earn for their sons as well. Not to speak of his daughter, much as the adversaries might try to say against her, she has made her own name as a singer and a music director[ most of you might have read the news that she is the co-MD for Revathy's next English/Hindi movie].
Friends[mental included],
No matter what, TiS is a reality. Nobody can stop this true thing that is happening to raise the Tamils in the world stage. He is not doing this for any name or fame but purely to give his share of gratitude for the Tamils who have raised him to the highest pedestal as the GREATEST MD EVER in TFM! This is his small contribution.
And, to make this happen, he could have approached any big stalwarts or big names and they would have come begging. And you call him a beggar just because he wants you all to be part of this. Instead of appreciating and understanding the opportunity he is giving to us all to make Tamil come to the world stage, we are undermining him. Thamizhthaai will never forgive us if we fail in our duties. This is NOT an appeal for donations but a warning to those who constantly try to undermine TiS. The least you can do is to keep quiet and wait for this great project unfold in flying colors just before your eyes. This is not a fight between IIR and ARR. In fact, these two don't have any differences between themselves. When I was talking to IIR, I cannot forget the great things he has said about ARR. This project is beyond the TFM.
Despite all cricisms and adverse comments, the US Team is proud to say that we have seen to this happening and if not today, later the Tamil community will DEFINITELY say a big thanks to us. But, we are not even expecting any thanks. The least we can ask for is your co-operation or silence until it is over. Then go ahead and beat your drums, we will be there. We are not afraid. We have been giving our true mail id's everytime we post a mail here. Wait till September and then fire your appreciation or comments or curses.
In the meantime, visit www.sulekha.com/tis for details. Thanks.
YIA!!

Osho,
I think it will be another month or so, before I can get a draft of 'How to listen to IR' out. I would like any collaborators/reviewers for this work. You, gyan, prabhudas - would you volunteer ?
- From: Gyan (@ 4.158.114.170)
on: Thu Jun 17 00:26:23 EDT 2004
k, i might not be able to offer as a reviewer as I have an erratic schedule not amenable to a calm mind required for reviewing or collaborating a responsible work you are undertaking. If I commit, i will have to stop every other work. Sometime back, I wrote an impromptu 3 page letter to a famous critic in the US around 3 a.m. when I was doing other stuff as well except go to sleep. The write-up was not upto my stringent standards for objectivity and moderation, and when I recd a kind acknowledgment I felt sleepless for a few days, since I did not expect him to even consider anything sensible in that shoddy sloppy high voltage write-up of mine. So, this response to you.
I need to collect myself for this effort, and get back to you, though not in the near future.
Thanks, yet looking forward to your work.
