Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

gemini becomes a great hit accepted but Indian, gentleman, bombay, roja, alaipayuthe, sethu are good movies as well as big box office hits.
Anbe Sivam had a very good theme and the climax was touching but the first half was lagging and usual. is that what you expect from Kamal's movie?
Many of my friends didn't find any logic in kamal selling madavans shoes, madhavan getting thrown into the swimming pool and scenes like that. An intelligent and educated guy like Maddy getting into some roadside motel assuming they will accept credit cards, his gestures before donating blood are too artificial for a civilized guy, was kamal sleeping while writing the screenplay!

Sarat and Piratheepan,
Double standards? I am not saying that cinema projects ONLY what is going on in the society. Fantasies, illusions etc etc are all part and parcel of cinema. I am not saying that evry cinema that comes out is fully logical. I am not saying that I can relate myself to the characters that are projected. But there MUST be a limit that one needs to stick to. If a director goes beyond that, then he needs to pay the price which is what Shankar did!
"oh so u guys stop in the middle of class and start dancing and singing in the middle of the streets right?and dont study.when people get in fights in india one guy takes on 10 etc etc etc etc right?"
I am sorry to say this, but this is a ridiculous comparison! How can you relate subtle extrapolations like these to the things that were shown in BOYS? "Dancing in a classroom or showing disrespect to a Professor" can NEVER be treated on par with "Bringing home a prostiute when your parents are away". The former is illogical, while the latter is illogical and at the same time INSULTING.
May be you guys don't have the proper feel of an Indian culture to comment about it. Anything sexual IS offensive in India and is termed INSULTING. Sexual matters are treated more seriously than the others and it has been like this ever since I knew about it!
It is the people, the culture, the tradition that we are used to. Sex may just be like any other matter elsewhere, but not in India. This needs to be understood before you can call people hypocrites. Things would make sense if you understand this basic things about the attitude of the Indian people, otherwise whatever we say would be BS to you people.
BOYS would be an enjoyable movie for a group of guys (youth) who get excited by the scenes that are shown. Even though it is not a true portrayal, the teenage mind tends to get excited instantly by anything that is sexual forgetting about all the rights and wrongs, dos and donts. But if one thinks back rationally at what one enjoyed, he would realise the reality of the situation. This is what I felt when I put a thought to what I saw and I am an Indian, born and brought up here. May be you would have felt otherwise.

Saw Boys - entertaining, vulgar at times, ARR was brilliant as usual, Shankar surely brings a new look to films.
It is quite funny to see everyone cringing about how could Shankar do this - oh yes , Indians are the `biggest' procreators and populators in the world. Chennai looks great in the movie.
Anyway Kudos to ARR for one more feather.

C~P,
I understand the people and thats why i am calling you guys hypocrites. My comparison was in fact a good one. you are holding BOYS to a different std then other thamil movies im sorry if you dont realize that.

C~P,
I agree with most of what you said about Boys.
But honestly tell me one thing isn't all these things about Boys made loud just because its a Shankar movie, just like people were very lound a few years back after watching climax of Dilse.
Acclaimed directors face this problem.
People of tamil nadu more precisely chennai people are very conservative about Sex.
Conservative only in expressing about it, just read tehelka website, i don't know if its running yet, and you will know what i mean.
you say bringing home a prostitute is illogical ....accepted, then what about all the Balachander movies including Kalki?
And i don't remember the movie kamals father falls in love with srividyas daughter, Kamal wanting to marry srividya, doesn't the concept sound obnoxious?
It was a great hit those days (hear say) i was not even born then.
Chennai must have been even more conservative!
Irony!
Just give Shankar breathing space man, he is not a Maniratnam but he has given 3 good movies with meaningful content, don't chafe the hair out of his head :)

the double standards I was talking about was directed at the criticism that all teenagers are not like the 'Boys'.
There is absolutely nothing wrong in being conservative but
if you are truly conservative in your outlook towards sex, then be consistent in what you criticise and accept. If somebody takes the stance that 'had this movie been made by XYZ it is ok, but how can shankar make such a movie' I cant help but think that this is nothing but double standards.
"Even though it is not a true portrayal"
maybe its not true in your case...
and please go easy on the indian culture bit or you might start sounding like uma bharati before you realize it.

Piratheepan,
Fine. If I am a hypocrite, you are a fool.
You see how easy it is to just say things if the arguement is on these lines?! :P
Thiru,
I have nothing against Shankar and enjoy his movied for the amount of entertainment they provide. I was just pointing out what I felt was wrong in BOYS due to which I am now a hypocrite! :-)
The movie which you are talking about is Aboorva Raagangal, Rajnikanth's first film! Balachander is just that kind of person I am personally against his portrayal of Brahmins. But he may have been "illogical" but had the kmack of handling the situation well. Most importantly he wasn't "vulgar". Vulgarity in visuals has a great impact as I said earlier.
Sarat,
'had this movie been made by XYZ it is ok, but how can shankar make such a movie'
This would have been said definitely based on Thulluvatho Ilamai and Selvaraghavan coz that's what I did a few days back! :-)
Thulluvatho Ilamai was a hit. 100 day movie. Agreed. A movie that ran in say 5 theatres collected 10 crores and the movie was made with a budget 1 crore. Result : Hit
BOYS was a flop(kinda!). 50 day movie. Movie ran in say 10 theatres and collected 10 crores when it was made with 20 crores. Result : Flop
It is just relative and this is guess is true.
Thulluvatho Ilamai didn't have kids going to the theatres with their parents and there weren't any complaints. My parents don't even know that there is a movie called Thulluvatho Ilamai!! :-).
BOYS was Shankar's and bound to attract family audiences. You had all the elder folks geeting in to the theatres expecting a skeleton to dance, expcting to see some new World Wonder this time around and were obviously taken aback by what they say.
The whole thing is being made loud because it is Shankar's. Yeah. This is because the film had a wider range of audience and thus a greater variety of views. That wasn't the case with Thulluvatho Ilamai. It was just a select audience. How on earth is this double standard?!!!!!!! Thulluvadho Ilamai is like a survey conducted with 100 people and BOYS is like a survey with 1000 people. The results differed and so it is called double standard?!! If this is still termed double starndard, I have nothing much to add.
"maybe its not true in your case..."
Please share your experiences with us!! ;-) Jus kidding!! :-)
and yeah Sarat...The Indian culture bit was just to give people of what it is like to be here. I guess I was toooo succesful!!! :-) May be not..coz some people didn't still understand it! :P
Jai Hind!
Jana Gana Mana!
Vande Mataram!
Mile Sur Mera Thumara!!!
Janangalai Ninai!! (Is AE releasing today?!!)

^Most importantly he wasn't "vulgar". Vulgarity in visuals has a great impact as I said earlier.
Watch oru veedu eru vasal, hero invokes his servant a tribal girl to have sex with him, they shed their clothes and throw it which falls over a Ganesh idol, next day morning while cleaning the house she removes the clothes over the idol subtly accepting she didn't mind the incident.
What do you call this, i say this vulgarity to the core.
In boys the two most disturbing visuals was
the hero running naked - no explicit nudity was shown, in alavandan kamal came nude.
bringing home a pros. Shankar was tamilian enough to show none of the guys had sex with her.
This is much better than Seema biswas showing her things in bandit queen. Though u may not agree :)
