Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

Ehsaan, Hi again.Nice to see you are still with us.
Why bring rumours into our converstion...however just out of curiosity I read somewhere that whilst recording for Allavandhan/abhay SP Bala walked out of the recording studio because he felt the compositions were vulgar??????
I am sure there is no truth in this but some say this is why you still haven't worked with him till now!
No offence intended but simply curious!

Can you tell us something about your future releases and projects and any compositions you are very ecxited about.
Lastly when composing songs would you chose the singer depending on which actor/actress it is picturued on or which singer can best render it?
In you opinion who would best suit the Big B's deep baratone voice.... I personally feel it would be SPB.Please comment.
I would hate for you to feel that I keep ranting on about SP Bala but I would really like you to work with him soon:)

Hi Jyothi
There is absolutely no truth to the rumour that you have heard. I dont think the compositions were vulgar at all. One of the songs siri siri had some jokes in it which were not the kind that would be offending to anyone.
Well our future releases now are Kal Ho Na Ho which we are very excited about then a film called Rudraksh which is a supernatural thriller where are music is very ethno techno !!!! Lets see what else comes along.
Which part of England are you in ?

When choosing singers we definitely keep the song in mind and the range etc for e.g we used Sunidhi to sing a ballad in Armaan as opposed to the normal item stuff she sings. Sometimes certain singers are associated with actors like Udit Narayan always sings for Amir Khan.

Hi John we use the Antares plug for Pro Tools post dubbing for pitch correction. But normally prefer it if the singer sings in pitch !!!!

Thanks Ehsaan. since the recording is so clear nowadays, it is very easy to spot mistakes. We got to be very careful about these things!

Ehsan,
Here's a song of IR's that's a must-hear:
The movie's name is 'AvatAram' and was released in the late 90's.
Click on the following link in the newtfmpage forum to listen to the number:
http://www.dhool.com/sotd/thendral.html
The above link has a couple of fellow forum regulars giving a detailed analysis of the composition. (you may skip some content set to Tamil characters). The song is RealAudio format, and may not be the best quality. However it's a good initiation to the song. Get hold of the CD if you can.
Would love to hear your views on this number. If not through this thread, I'd appreciate if you could email. Thanks.

Thanks Mr. Ehsaan for posting a comments there. Hope you get to work with lots of creative directors in the Tamil and Telugu films also. You are really better than lots of music directors here. I like A R Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

- From: Ehsaan (@ 202.68.150.4)
on: Tue Apr 29 07:58:26 EDT 2003
Hi MS
there is no specific way in which we work on the harmonic ( chord ) structure for songs . I guess to some extent with indian ragas one has to be very aware of the notes in the scale so that there are no drastic clashes though clashes at times sound good. A sense of imagination is definitely a must. And of course knowledge of harmony and scales.

Ehsaan,
What motivated you to become a film music composer?
1. Is it because you felt that Hindhi film music was bad?
2. Is it because you felt you had a something to add which no one else did?
3. Is it because "make hay while sun shines"

Hello Mr. Ehsaan,
Do you have any inhibitions in introducing Tamil film singers (upcoming) like Karthik (who sang "Chori Pe Chori..." for A R Rahman in "Saathiya", which Shankar Mahadevan sang the Tamil version for "Alaipayuthey"), Karthik, Harish Raghavendra, Thippu, Vasundara Das, Devan, Srinivas, Mathangi, Prashanthi, Sujatha and others.. also in Hindi?. Won't it be fresh for the Hindi audience who are just used to Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Kay Kay and Shaan. I agree they are great singers, but won't these TFM singers be fresh? Haven't SPB, Jesudas made it big in Bollywood? I agree that you have used Srinivas in "Kaisi yeh rut.." in Farhaan's "Dil Chahtha Hai", which was FABULOUS, any plans of repeating him in future? By the way how is the music for Farhaan's "Lakshya" going on. I beleive the film is releasing in December 2003?
Mr. Ehsaan plz don't think I am instructing you, just out of curiousity I am asking. Will the producers and directors allow you guys to let TFM singers sing in Hindi for you? Can you reply plz. Best of Luck for you future releases. I sincerely pray that you get a strong and a good script and talented director to work in Tamil or Telugu and the albums creates a new trend and breaks all records. And you guys make it really BIG in TAMIL too. Bye and Take care. Can I have your mail id, if I can mail you sometimes only. If you care to..
