I may have been a little presumptuos in branding it mediocre.... similar to your choice there a few songs worth listening such as "Oh Nilaa Enna Seiyumo" & "Thadam Maaruthey Manam". But hey forgive me if I'm wrong, doesn't parts of Yen Anbe [SPB solo] remind you a bit of "Minnale Nee Vanthathenadi" [from May Madam]. It could just be the fact that both were sung by SPB.. but Ijust couldn't help relating to each other while listening.... Personally I don't think KR scored that number as the arrangement sounds like it's mostly done on keyboard [if u know what i mean]

Listened to "Album".
Good work by KR...I think the scope of the film has not allowed him to experiment much.
The Nilave song will top the dance music charts...
Could someone post the lyrics for the song please..quite novel !

Naalai songs sound very north indian. surprised to see why KR would lend his name to such poor quality music

regarding 'Naalai'...
'Naalai'.. was/is a tamizh movie produced and directed by tamizh NRIs from South Africa..
Karthik Raaja, had accepted to compose for the movie, and had worked on the composition of one song, but there was a misunderstanding between the director and composer, due to which, Karthik opted out of the project.
Muhammad Asif Ali, did the score for the movie..
Audio sleeve notes still credit Karthik Raaja for 1 or 2 songs of the movie, and it is unclear if there was some use of the already 'scratch' version produced by Karthik, by Muhammad Asif Ali..
Also, for those interested -
(if karthik raaja is from a 'princely'('ilaya raaja') heritage)
Muhammad Asif Ali, is from a princely heritage too,
being the elder son of the prince of arcot, Mohammad Abdul Ali, and works out of his studio in Amir Mahal. He has also contributed as composer to Dev Anand's hindi movie - 'Love in Times Square' and has been involved in one of Lucky Ali's projects..
maybe MusicIsLife.. would get clarfication from the prince himself.. ?

I have not yet seen the cassatte cover yet, but got one of the CD's from Asif nearly a year back. Anywas, surely will get some information regarding naalai. Yup it is a South-African production.
And all the information about Asif said by saregamaremix is true. do you know him personally?
For the matter of fact: i liked the only SPB song, and i told that to him.
Since this is a discussion regarding ALBUM, i dont want further deviate the Topic.

album is a great one indeed..imho,a lot better than dumm dumm dumm..the lyrics are good as well which has become a rarity these days in tfm..
my amateurish review
1. thathalikkuthey .. great interludes and peppy rendering by karthik and sadhana... the pallavi sounds familiar (the thamarai poovonnu bit) to some old rahman song but only a bit (i know iam being mean!, after all i am arrahman fan, aint i?! hee hee).. and it can be forgiven for an all round great song.. 10/10 - almost perfect
2. thazhampoo thalavasam - Wow!. Ilayaraja sings this.. before u lump it with his countless amma atha songs he has been doing of late, STOP! U r in for a great surprise..its a folkish duet and i must admit, it is good.. its such a surprise that one almost forgets sadhana's singing too!. the interludes are good. 10/10..(just for the refreshing feel to it with raja singin a peppy song, a good one at that.)
3. pillai thamarai - soothing song by madhu balakrishnan (hey, why does he sing viliyoram? i thought he sings good tamil) violin is put to good use.. 8/10
4. nilave - shankar mahadevan in his usual self.. but i wasnt impressed with this.. meant as the dance number.. 6/10
5. muttaikkul - bhavatharini.. u know i have this prejudice against bhavatharini..but she sounds ok.. at least better than her usual self. and inspite of her voice, the song has a good folkish tune.. 7/10
6. kadhal vaanoli - harish ragavendhra starts off the song pleasantly.. and he sings in this beautiful deep voice... then sujatha takes over.
somehow sounds familiar when she sings thoduma thoduma.. maybe its me.. but its good still..
the charanams are good with good lyrics.
8/10
7. chellamai - shreya goshal starts with konjing hariharan.. goes well until spoilt by "tell me now".. charanams are ok only. another good song.. 7/10
overall - 8/10
a worthy buy..i was impressed the first time.. since album has come from karthi raja whom i have come to despise.. in dumm dumm, he showed great improvement in recording.. but the tunes were sort of ok.. but now in album, he has done great recording and good compositions as well..hope he continues with this instead of his dreadful amulbaby kind!
Oh! Karthik Raja - I bow to U!

Ya. You aren't a surprise. ARR fans are allways magnanimous and will praise what ever is good. No prejudice most of the time.
I too liked album from what ever I listened from TV.

is it true that KR composed aai nee vanchikodi in the film ponumani and some songs in athma can anyone clarify?
- From: NagaS (@ 203.195.201.74)
on: Sat Sep 28 03:25:16 EDT 2002
raguraam,
KR composed 'paaNiyanin raajjiyaththil uyyalaalaa' (paNdiyan), 'Vanjikkodi' (PonnumaNi), 'NinaikkindRa paathaiyil' (aathma), 'NetRu vantha kaatRu' (kaNmaNi) and UzaippaaLi, Amaithippadai BGMs etc., However, These movies had only IR's name as MD ! (UzaippaaLi had KR's name as pinnaNi isai, not sure about amaithippadai)

NagaS - r u sure Amaithippadai had BGM by KR ? cause i remember seeing an interview by Arunmozhi (Napoleon) that he was thrilled to do the flute piece BGM in that movie for IR - the one where Ranjitha would be running in the bushes.....

sabesan,
I am sure abt. that - I too remember that wonderful flute piece of BGM - Its one of the great BGMs I have ever listened to (May be only next to IR's flute piece in muthal mariyaathai where ranjani is killed and her lover comes to know abt that ... )

Listened to ALBUM after Kathal Virus (KV). ALBUM is great. Like someone said (Mumbai Ramki ?), ALBUM may be the Album of 2002. IMHO: ALBUM is better album compared to KV, EMV and others.
