There are many many wonderful songs in old TFM (especially belonging to the period before 1980) which many of us have heard and enjoyed in the days of their popularity, but, as years rolled by those songs came to be heard only rarely. This thread is an attempt to unearth such golden oldies. Those who have longed to hear such songs can make a "nEyar viruppam" request here. In response, those who have the songs can convert them into MP3s and share it with others here. Through sites like coolgoose.com and Yahoo briefcase, it is now possible to do such sharing easily.
As rare songs are unearthed and brought out as MP3s, it would be natural to listen to them and discuss them here, so that this thread does not simply become just a set of requests and supplies.
My sister Sathya Kabali has a large collection of rare TFM goldies in cassettes and she is in the process of converting them into MP3s and putting them in coolgoose. The songs she has uploaded are available at this link:
http://www.coolgoose.com/go/music?user=sathyakabali&go=1
(You need to get your own coolgoose account in order to download.)
I would also start uploading MP3s of rare songs to the same link. For sure, you can look forward to a great set of songs being added to this collection soon.
We look forward to enthusistic contribution from many forumers.

Have added 2 more classics, "Thesulaavudhe" and "Thirupaar kadalil" in my space. Enough has been said told about them already :-)I find it hard to believe that it is PS's voice in Thesulaavudhe, although thats how it has been listed elsewhere. Need confirmation. Is it Jikki or PS?

SK - thanks for the good news about the two songs. Yes, I am aware of the SPB oldies list here and my list has more songs than this. I have most of my collection in Minidisc and has just started converting them (I used to use Audacity under Linux, but my linux box is old (MMX233), I recently got CoolEdit2000 and hope to speed up my conversion).
I am opening a new thread to discuss some technical issues on ripping, streaming, cataloging and serving. Welcome all,

sk - the tech thread is now up. I am looking forward to your input.
Sugamana... I just downloaded. You made my day. Good quality too. Million thanks. The prelude is very similar to srirAman sridEvi... Excellent chorus. As usual SPB at his best (excuse the oxymoron).

We have uploaded 2 IR songs in the year 1978.
panneer pushpangaLE by Kamal in Aval appadiththaan.
In the SOTD thread, Saravanan has discussed about this film in detail and the KJJ song uRavukaL thodarkathai.
"Kumar Arts’ Aval Appadithaan-1978 was directed by Rudriah, and starred Kamal, Rajini, Sripriya, Sivachandran, and Saritha (in a guest role). It is considered even today a landmark film in the history of Tamil Cinema . It bagged the TN Govt.’s Second Best Film award for 1978, Mullum Malarum being the first and Ilamai Oonjalaadugirathu being the third (Interestingly, Rajini was there in all three of the Award winning films). Unfortunately Rudriah couldn’t come up in a big way- his next film Gramathu Athiyayam-1980 proved a damp squib.
IR’s music was another highlight- SJ’s Vaazhkkai Odam sella and Kamal’s Panneer Pushpangalae were the other great songs."
engum niRaintha - ithu eppadi irukku 1978.
When you think of this film, the only thing I remember is this song.
The film was directed by Pattabiraman.
starred :Jaisankar, Sridevi and Y.Vijaya.
Lyrics by Panju arunachalam.
It is a murder and detective story - usual sort of Jaishankar stuff.
Saravanan can add more info about this movie.

Sathyakabali, thanks for ULing my request. You guys seem to have a wonderful collection of songs. I am presently having a very limited set of old songs from which I would be adding the ones which are great and are not found in coolgoose or elsewhere.
SK, that it is is PS's voice is a little surprising. Probably from her earliest days.

Sathya Kabali,
Engum niraindha iyarkkayil is a lovely song, with a laid back, languorous enchantment. I like it particularly for the remarkable vocals of SJ- how winningly did she bring to pulsating life IR’s highly imaginative vistas in song after song in those years—
Of special mention are the brilliant interludes. The second interlude that opens with SJ’s Kuhukku humming-both the beckoning and answering calls by that talented singer- followed by that famous guitar bit can never be erased from memory. The third interlude sparkles with a classic veenai piece.
The song has Jaishankar and Sridevi romancing all over Bangalore- riding a Lambretta in MG Road, prancing in front of the Vidhan Sowdha, boating in Ulsoor lake- all in black & white—
Vijaya Meena Films’Ithu Eppadi Irukku was based on a story by Sujatha (Anita Ilam Manaivi?) The same Panju Arunachalam-Pattabhiraman-IR-Jai-Sridevi combo had in the previous year, under the same banner Vijaya Meena Films, adapted to celluloid another of Sujatha’s stories, but Gayatri was a modest hit, whereas Idhu Eppadi Irukku was a flop. Yes, a murder story full of intrigue, but Jaishankar was but a feeble shadow of that dashing, debonair ‘Thennagathu James Bond’ of the 60s and early 70s, and was not at all the right choice for the smart youngster whom Sujatha had envisaged.
However, ‘Engum niraindha iyarkkayil’ hit the popularity charts, and was a regular feature in Radio Ceylon’s Vidumurai Viruppam of those days. Another song from the film that I recall was ‘Dhinam dhinam oru nadagam’-PS.

Saravanan, thanks for the writeup. One of my strong favourites, this song is another of those intense nostalgic numbers for me. The whole song including the interludes is just like a fresh spring and asbolutely flows.

Sathya kabali,
It is nice to see that you are loading intersting songs. It would be great if you can load the songs - 'Rendu kannam santhana kinnam' from Sivappu Malli (MD-Shankar Ganesh), and the song 'Oru paadal naan kaetaen' from Oosai.
thanks
Justin

Have added "Azhagan muruganidam(Panjavarnakili) and the wonderful "ennai yeduthu"(Padagotti) that was recently discussed in the PS thread. The "hoyya hoi hoyya" humming and the initial lines have clearly inspired Chandrabose in the song "neela kuyilgal rendu"(Viduthalai). In fact the humming has been reproduced exactly and the initial 2 lines sung by Bose are heavily inspired.
This song also shows probably the only flaw that PS ever had. She sings "Ponavan ponandeeeng" with a nasal touch. This happens after words like "Potri","thootri", "di.." etc. words ending in "ee" or "ii" syllables. Also could be heard in "malargal nanaindhana paniyaale" (uyirenum kaadhal nei ootreeen) Can be ignored because of the great rendition overall :-)

Vijay - It is PS indeed. The Telugu version however is by Jikki along with Ghantasala. Jikki has done an equally great job!
