Vangonna Ada Vangonna used to be quite popular. I also recall another song which goes like "Ayyar Aatthu Ponnu Sonna Kettukkoda Ambi"
Of course, the quintessential one is
"Adutthatthu Ambujatthaip Patthela"
Any more ?

One of the most inevitable but preposterous side effects of democracy has been the unfeigned support given by the disciples toward some inveterate rages of sages. This otherwise called jArlrAism causes humility in the single-hander who speaks in a different mind-set and his words or ideas become vulnerable to criticism , be it in a constructive discussion on TFM for or against an MD, or be it in a digressed and degenerated situation in a thread like this. The day this perpetual status quo gets pushed to the backseat , will see some true prognies of democracy.

To Udaya and his supporters,
"If you deny others the chance to discuss their personal favorite because you feel your taste is superior or that their topic isn't for the public good then you're not being a democrat, just a fascist" - a baseless, poor arguement.
Imagine someone starts the topic: "Songs with a sex appeal" or "My
fantasies of singer Harini" to discuss his personal favourite. I am sure there would be a good number of participation. But the the long cherished moral values will lose their importance. Discussing sex, caste, religion in public under the pretext of freedom of expression is disgusting. "FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION SHOULD SAFEGAURD THE UNITY AND INTEGRITY AND CONFORM TO THE MORAL VALUES". Likes and dislikes are personal. But favouritism is hineous. Discrimination of any form is abominable. Somebody misinterpreted what I had written clearly "Brahmins mad about caste" as "mad Brahmins". Such distortions of first hand
information is pathetic. Either he read it wrongly, or it is a natural outcome of the feeling of insecurity dwelling at the subconscious mind or a purposeful attempt to delineate that I am
against Brahmins.
"M.Sridharan, welcome to Democracy and Freedom of Speech 101" - please do not draw me into hazy ideas of democracy. I am not here to give a lecture on democracy and freedom of speech. I am on the defensive to bring to the attention of the web-admins that in future please set a clear code for the starting of topics that is
of the general public, by the general public and for the general public.
"If a thread is started by someone to discuss IR, ARR, Deva, or "Brahmin Dialect songs" unless contributors want to add anything in keeping with the theme of the thread, they don't have the license to subvert the thread using freedom of speech to say, "This topic is unnecessary" or "IR sucks" or "Why does he deserve a thread?" - license to subvert, a thread of control? This topic is really unnecessary.
"When I attended school, I sat with a select group of friends for lunch. If someone had come to me then and said that I couldn't sit with my friends because that someone didn't approve of my choice of friends, that someone would have been the object of my individual violence. Society has no business telling me what I can and can't appreciate or indulge in, provided that I don't denigrate or deny others' right to enjoy their freedom. What one
chooses to appreciate is that individual's undeniable prerogative." - People flock together when they feel secure, comfortable and at home in the group. Groupism is a natural
inclination but group clashes is undesirable. Better avoid it
rather than propagate it in public.

A comment to lighten the situation in this thread..
Q. Why Indians are good in object oriented programming?
A. They are good in defining Classes, can understand super, sub and anonymous inner Classes and faithfully inherit attributes.

msridharan,
i think u still haven't got the point. we have had similar attempts at throttling the freedom of this forum earlier and people like udhaya have always sprung to its defence.
``a baseless, poor arguement. Imagine someone starts the topic: "Songs with a sex appeal" or "My fantasies of singer Harini" to discuss his personal favourite. I am sure there would be a good number of participation.''
fyi, songs with sex appeal have been discussed, many did participate, no one got tickled. but no one can post a thread on fantasies of harini because ravi and co would delete it at once, simply because it wouldn't have anything to do with harini' singing abilities. see, this is not an unmoderated forum, people can't run amok here, but they do have the freedom to discuss anything related to tfm.
``But the the long cherished moral values will lose their importance.''
who are u to dictate morals to me, or anyone else? wanna talk music, fine by me. just don't begin sunday school here.
``Discussing sex, caste, religion in public under the pretext of freedom of expression is disgusting.''
ur opinion. not mine. why should u expect me to conform to it? u just don't seem to get the point. ur statement is only a dead giveaway of ur conservatism.
``"FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION SHOULD SAFEGAURD THE UNITY AND INTEGRITY AND CONFORM TO THE MORAL VALUES".''
hey hey, easy man. i didn't know u had been appointed newtfmpage policeman. and no use using all caps. shouting simply does not help.
``Likes and dislikes are personal. But favouritism is hineous. Discrimination of any form is abominable.''
are u a judge in some court somewhere? u sure sound like one.
``Somebody misinterpreted what I had written clearly "Brahmins mad about caste" as "mad Brahmins".''
now u are the one starting something totally unrelated to music. u think brahmnis are mad about caste, go and yell elsewhere. leave us to discuss and enjoy music.

Well, I thought that this thread is dead and finished. I see a revival. Maybe I should feel glad. But it is difficult to feel glad about 1 page of "Brahmin dialect songs" and 2 pages of Brahmin vs Non-Brahmin and Democracy 101.
I always took it for granted that Udhayas lessons on Democracy 101 need not be explicitly stated. M.Sreedharan, thanks for correcting my overly optimistic opinion about the maturity of Forumers.
No wonder many of the old timers like Kanchana, Nov, Bhaskar, Gopal etc. are not to be seen nowadays. Udaya, thanks for your postings - I dont mean in this thread, I mean in other threads! But Udhaya, do Forumers need to know that you are a Brahmin or otherwise? I dont give a damn and you dont either. Wont it be better to ignore this guy?
Anyway, to re-assert my right about posting on topics I find interesting and topics I judge to be appropriate to DF, I plan to visit DF more often in the future and post more stuff.

To cram ->
Discussing sex, caste, religion in public under the pretext of freedom of expression is disgusting.
"ur opinion. not mine. why should u expect me to conform to it? u just don't seem to get the point. ur statement is only a dead giveaway of ur conservatism."
Not my opinion but a truth. You have to conform to the truth. Conservatism? will you dare to discuss religion, sex or caste in
public in Tamil Nadu, or even in India. You would be spitting fire.
But the the long cherished moral values will lose their importance - definately true.
"who are u to dictate morals to me, or anyone else? wanna talk music, fine by me. just don't begin sunday school here" - Brahmin dialect songs is not about Tamil Film Music. No scope for discussing music. I am not forcing you or anyone to accept my conservatism (as you may call it). These arguements were a defensive against Udaya trying to teach democracy (read his
posting and you will get the feel of it, formatted as a set of rules it definately dictates).
"no one can post a thread" - (how can you dictate?) "on fantasies of harini because ravi and co would delete it at once, simply because it wouldn't have anything to do with harini' singing abilities. see, this is not an unmoderated forum, people can't run amok here, but they do have the freedom to discuss anything related to tfm" - People running amok? (Here is my friend obsessed
with Harini after listening to "Suththi Suththi..." from Padayappa. He may as well have started a topic on his fantasies of
Harini. It has got to do with Harini's singing abilities. He has not even seen her photograph. Fantasies are relative. If it is beyond bearable limits (all of us know what is not bearable) then
the responsibility lies with the web-admins to take the proper course. But at the first sight of the topic people would go amok. Not that people who fantasise go frenzied if they are vociferous about their fantasies. It can be the other way.)
Likes and dislikes are personal. But favouritism is hineous. Discrimination of any form is abominable.
"are u a judge in some court somewhere? u sure sound like one" -
I cannot help if you feel so. I am not passing a judgement. Read them a couple of times with unprejudiced mind and the truth of the statement become clear. Still if you want to say likes and dislikes are not personal, favouritism is favourable and discrimination is acceptable then I would say you are just trying to disprove the truth. Now do not tell me that I am trying to impose the truth or that what is truth to me may not be for you. Truth is univerasl. I have to write a couple of statements deviating from the main point as I am drawn towards them.
Somebody misinterpreted what I had written clearly "Brahmins mad about caste" as "mad Brahmins".
"now u are the one starting something totally unrelated to music. u think brahmnis are mad about caste, go and yell elsewhere. leave us to discuss and enjoy music" - you chose something unrelated to music not my initiative and now you yell at me. The point of the
phrase and the arguement in totality is clear. Read what I wrote:
Somebody misinterpreted what I had written clearly "Brahmins mad about caste" as "mad Brahmins". Such distortions of first hand
information is pathetic. Either he read it wrongly, or it is a natural outcome of the feeling of insecurity dwelling at the subconscious mind or a purposeful attempt to delineate that I am
against Brahmin.
Cutting a part of the statement leads to misconception. Surely
Brahmins (majority of them) are mad about caste and this phrase does not demean them. It shows their bad way of imposing superiority on people, a "chronic disease" passed on from generation to generation. But "mad Brahmins (srikanth wrote)" is derogatory and such fine distortion can mean a lot.

In Paritchaikku Neramacchu, there is a song that goes like "Mallaigaip Pooccharam Manjalin Mohanam Minnida Vadi Maattup Penn Neeyaga Engal Vettup Penn Neeyaga". I am not sure whether this is brahmin dialect or not. It looks probable as it has an Iyengar family as the base.
I wonder whether Iyengar Tamil terms like Thaligai(Samiyal), Satthamudhu(What is this?), Thiruk Kannamudhu(Payasam), Thadiyonnam(Puliyodharai) find a place in any songs. Sorry to give examples of only food items, but thats all I know of Iyengar Tamil.
