sngameshwar,
MR's debut movie is PALLAVI,ANUPALLVAI..
please explain the CLASS that you are talking about."kaathu pirikum" scene even though a bit vulgar it made perfect sense within the context of the movie.you cannot explain a "lagiyum" selling charecter to be more decent than this.It is something like BOYS even though it had some vulgar scenes it made perfect sense with in the context of the movie.
why should every girl and father be a stereo type gal/guy that u have in mind.A middle age rich father, who takes very good care of his daughter, daughter falls in love with this beautiful poor guy, father oppose's her love to death, after 4 fights ,2 sad songs, the father changes mind in the end and get's her maried.SUBHAM.
There are so many fathers who are selling there daughter's for prostitution,in real life.A father need not be any one of the 20 father's you have come across in life.please think out of the box.
And even if u take him as a stero typical father ,There was never a scene shown in which he is willing sending laila to meet surya. The first time itself she says she will cut the college and meet him.So may be the entire thing is happening behind his back.
Most of the guy's who roam around gal's are porrukki's from a parent's percepective. For ur information gal's dont love after reading your bio data.Laila is not in a city, and for village standards, surya is very good looking :).And that itself is enough for an infatuation/love.
This is a movie, which after a long time is drawing audeince's, not for great songs and beautiful picturisation, not for cheesy love scenes, not for a SUPER action hero who defies the political system, but for pure acting and charecterisation. That's why it is being discussed so much and not for anything MORBID in it.
i dont know what to say about your comments on u seing the movie at 10PM.probably what we have to do is.. make a happy ending scene where every body smiles for a family group photo in the end,S.A.rajkumar singing la la la laala la la la..because it is so late in the night...
but let's keep the oppari for 1,4, and 7 o clock shows.

hmm!! thanks for a good response Senty !! and i thot "PALLAVI,ANUPALLAVI" was a Mahendran movie ...
well, this is definitely a deviation which other ppl in this thread would not mind.., but probably, would actively participate..
well, if thinking out of the box means thinking illogically, then, i am sorry, i am happy to think 'within the box'! i hail from madurai, the CITY that is pretty nearby sholavandhan.. even in the so-called city madurai, girls think umpteen times before even shaking hands with amiable guys, let alone with a legiam hawker. if u see the cheesy outgoing girls of the metro and conclude that the whole world has 'come out of the box', i am sorry, u r mistaken.. they just form the miniscule of the minority..
I am not sure how many 'typical middle-class' fathers happily 'thaarai vaathufy' their daughters to a fraud just because their girls had 'pari koduthufied' their manasu out of infatuation. but i am very sure that the 21st father whom i would come across will also definitely give a sound slap across his daughter's face when he comes to know abt such an ACQUINTANCE, let alone a love affair !! c'mon buddy... letz assume u r a father of a girl and ur daughter comes to u and says , "nainaa.. i am in love with one guy.. he is , eh.. a legiam hawker, err.. a cheat uruttifying dice at railway station".. u want me to believe that u would say, "vaa di chellam, naan conventional, stero typed father opposing love illai, unakkku naakaikkae avanoda kannaalam katti vaikkaraen"...god forbid, boss !!!
Seri, letz assume laila goes around with these elite citizens of sholavandhan - viz. a ganja pombalai, an animal in human form and a legiam tycoon - without the knowledge of her father.. how on hell did she develop a good opinion abt these ppl? there is no one scene that gives a hint abt this ... (but for that intended "paavadai" dialogue in jail, which doesn't sound convincing a bit for a girl to fall in love...!!!)
am not always for those feel-good vikraman style happy ending 'lallaalaalalla' subham movies.. but, life is not all that morbid, sir.. konjam nalla vishayamum kaatuvomae sir indha maadhiriyaana oru powerful media'la ....!!
realism engira peyarim absurdity'a develop panna venaamae sir !!
and one thing.. indha movie's context'kkum andha kaathu pirikkum dialogues'kkum ennna sir sambandham?????
and may be, from your comment abt fathers selling girls, bala could take a cue for yet another oppari aluvaachee padam !!! make sure u get the royalty !

Sangasmeswar, or whatever pudukku name it is, please dont come into this forum and search for a legium for the cure of your kottaaai veeekkam. I know you have nothing good to say or any sense to make, so dont waste your effort condemning a good effort by one of our best directors of current times.

well.. i thought silence would be the best reply to such nonsense ppl who cannot come up with proper replies to discussions, but rather resort to their vulgar background & brought-up ...
but just wanted to convey that ppl having itching for expressing themselves in such a slang have their own stinky chatrooms and i suggest our CCMM (Cheap Courtesy-less Morbid Moron) confine himself/herself among those ugly faceless people, rather than coming out and polluting this good thread.
AND, MY NAME IS SANGAMESHWAR.

CCMM i agree with u that this is a good effort by one of our best directors of current times. But please refrain from using bad words and participate in a healthy discussion.
sangameshwar,
Thinking out of the box is not thinking illogically. If you are doing a logical deduction there cannot be any other alternative than what u deduced logical .It's as if u r saying that. This is how a father have to react and there can't be another way that he will react.
Iam not gonna appreciate my daughter if she is roaming around like the way u r saying, but i do acknowledge the fact that everybody need not react as the way i will react.
"even in the so-called city madurai, girls think umpteen times before even shaking hands with amiable guys"...
so can we say that all lovers in madurai are people who know each other for a couple of decades. And all girls are in love with GOOD guys or non-porukki's.wake up man, most of the road side romeo's are porukki's with lot of time to go behind the girls."madurai la irunthuttu entha mathri solringaley".There are numerous incidents of high caste girls eloping with low caste boys, and the whole communities hacking each other.
we have seen upteen movies for "oodal" turning into "kadhal" way back from theyagaraja bagavathar era.when u can accept all those, y can't u accept this.if bala would have added two scenes showing the good heart of surya, like he helping a old man or fighting to rescue laila from a group of rowdies, and then laila laying in the bed thiking abt surya and drifting to a dream song, then it would have been very convincing for you on why laila falls in love with surya.
How long do u want directors to spoon feed you.should the director explain everything, should he have to start the story like
"oru oorla oru patti iruthangalam..... avanga....
vadai suttangalam.... appo oru kakka..."
meaning of CONTEXT:"The circumstances in which an event occurs; a setting".
"Seri, letz assume laila goes around with these elite citizens of sholavandhan - viz. a ganja pombalai, an animal in human form and a legiam tycoon without the knowledge of her father"
So you do agree with me that bala is right if everything was happening without the knowledge of the father.
See your statement show's ur utter dis respect for those people's.
"a ganja pombalai, an animal in human form and a legiam tycoon".
This seems to be the problem with so many peoples who watched the movies. How come these charecters?.I think that is what has made bala stand out.He has made a movie even with these charecters which are forgotten and hated by society.
sangameshwar please try to foget your red color T-shirt,wrangler jeans, model type hero and try to see the world from the view of these society forsaken charecter's and indulge yourself in this beautiful journey called pithamagan.

senty and Sangameswarar,
I studied by Engineering in Thiagarajar college of Engg. Thiruparankunram(Madurai) and passed out in 1987. Even during this period there was lots of love stories in the colleges, ofcourse intercaste.
Don't know what Sangameshwarar is talking about.

this thread has become vennai, so dull
when there are no good movies, ppl crib that there is none. but now there is a good one.. ppl crib again..
What to tell..
My true opinion is IR's BGM is a classic.. u want to know a CLASS ACT, it is IR's BGM..
As a marketing strategy, IR could make another BGM that would suit the movie and PM could be re-released, PM will run another 100 days.. how abt that..

Can you tell me about the version, whose release and the audio quality of the movie, and if its wide screen formatting is good. There is one so called london DVD sold here in Singapore, which i am considering to buy. Thanks

Paran,
BGM is for the movie, hearing separately, i dont think will evoke the imagination, my opinion.. if you want to hear BGM separately, that is a good choice, btw..
nakkal thane?? poo unakku trish picture kidayathu!!
I saw it in VCD in India. The Quality was so close to DVD.. and the sounds were crystal clear.. i was amazed with the output..
