Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

I never knew, SN Surender got Kalaimaamani pattam!
Saravanan, does the title card of the Saadhu Mirandaal, Thaamarai Nenjam (I dont remember seeing his name), Bama Vijayam and other films, which Shoba and Surender were singing in 60s, show their name? Or, it was excluded, since they were just singing chorus?
Only in the recent days, after ARR era, I see importance is given for chorus singers and instrument players!

Saravanan, thanks for considering my earlier request.Yes, I do recognize this song, have heard it looong time back. Feels like a 60s song. LRE and PBS would have sung it better perhaps. Does Shoba sound off-pitch at 2:54("Ini ennavo") to anyone else? Not that she is great elsewhere in the song.

saravanan, wasn't "aval oru pacchai kuzhandai' the movie in which puratchi kalaingar made an insignificant debut as a sort of body builder/gigolo. or is it " Inikkum ilamai". SA Chandrasekar wasn't he a one time assistant director to M A Kaaja.
Digressing a bit two directors amaze me
barathi Raja who was valamburi somanathan's assistant and
Shankar who was SAC's assistant.
probably they learnt in a very practical way how not to make a movie ;-)

Thanks for the song Saravanan.Pressure always pays...
Vijay,i heard the off-key too and so will everyone and it IS hard to miss!
A nice tune for which IR could have easily romped up PJ-SJ combo and it would have been an outright winner. But this song is another hallmark of IR pre-82 when experiment and novelty were his prime mantras.A minor slip before pallavi could land you up in "ILamayenum poongatru" from "Pagalil oru iravu". SNS starts off like Dilip Vengsarkar but the surely there are cover drives when he sings "rathi manmathan kaviyam".Shobha was preparing IR to take on a screetchier Shailaja in the following year. But you can forgive the then debuting, nervous youngsters, for this out and out IR song.
SD Burman set the bench mark by an extensive accordian arrangement for his "Roop tera" to depict the huskiness, cosy feeling thats associated with such steamy scenes.Accordian just peeps and seeps thru the key hole and transports you to Uma Bharathi's erstwhile constituency.Along the same lines, to create "the mood" for all those Ken-Folletsque words "throbbing passion, stimulating foreplay and the culmination" IR has let his imagination wild.NSK comes my rescue....enGe theduven antha IRi enGe theduvEn?
Lalithanjali - the name takes me on a nostalgic trip to PeraLam ,Kumbakonam of the 70s.My uncle was in the organising committe for the All India Bank Employees meet at Kumbakonam in 1977. We reached Kumbakonam from peraLam after a small break-down in Mangai nallur (spelt ok?) ;visited the much talked about VenkatramaNa vilas. After the Leninist meet the comrades were to be offered some light musical moments....to be presented by an upcoming music troupe from Madras called Lalithanjali. This half-drawer joined the 36' bell-bottom uncle visited the troupe in the morning to confirm that the arrangements were in order.Spoke to a plump Surendar, saw modern Sundar (with a step cut!) but the all the talking was done by Mr.NeelaKantan(?) their father.
The evening started with Surendar singing " Deivathin Therduthu" from "Paatum Bharathamum". followed by "Oru naaL unnodu" from "Uravadum Nenjam" by Sundar and Shobha.Clad in Silk saree she was good looking (Pregnant?)with a neat presentable voice.Sundar churned out some Kishore duets with Sheila(Orange Dhaawani) .Sundar was wearing a white pant which could have passed off for a dhothi but for the stitch, he was passable too.But SNS was undoubtedly the talent of the day.He came for TMS songs,SPB songs,Seerkazhi songs.. and delivered them all well."Naan manthoopil","Adhisaya ragam" he sang both with ease. The brothers sang "Aval paranthu ponaLe","Yen kadhali yaar sollava" ,"Yey Dosti" from Sholay and squared off the evening with the mandatory "Surangani" for which the comrades demanded a once more.
Later after this SOTD ,i told all my cousins that i had chatted(?) with SNS and Shoba Shekar (as announced by Vividh Bharathi) and they were hardly impressed. But this song brings me a joyful memories ........Bobby collar vecha sattai poata Sundar,SNS in Check shirt,Shobavin pattu pudavai, this movie's big orange colour poster (with the title in Green colour )wherein the heroine is seen sitting cross legged(USP?)
BTW Saravanan, can you rephrase my CV?I am looking for the World bank Chairman job.

OISG :)) Btw, that was a great nostalgic trip to the 70s!
Vijay, watch out for more such rare IR songs in regular intervals!
Vengayam, as NagaS has rightly pointed out, it was Inikkum Ilamai.
GCTK, I don't think Surendar was credited for those early songs. But Shobha was luckier- while the radio announcements for 'maharaja oru maharani' said 'TMS, Sadan, Shobha', the HMV cassette of Nam Naadu is more explicit- the singers of 'Nalla perai vaanga vendum' are mentioned as TMS, L.R. Anjalai & S.N.Shobha.

how come Bhavani doesn't ring a bell- even after OISG's prodding ;-)
any other movies by this heroine , saravanan?
and you are responsible for this song OISG - surely your narrative is more interesting than the song. what is a cover drive for you is an edge to third slip for me - the rathi manmathan bit.. ;-)))
surely this shoba is a bits & pieces character! Part singer, part writer ,part director! did she try her hand at lyric writing at any time?
her best effort is still "odi pidicchu vilayaada"
SOTD 10kku 4.5 mark kuddukalaam that too for the fresh but shaky SNS.

Vengayam, I guess this Bhavani is same as the one singing 'Otha rooba' in Bathrakaali. Ippo mani adikkudha?

Cinema Virumbi, it is a real surprise, Vijay - Kalaimaamani! Hmm! Is there any guidelines, based on which Kalaimaamani award is awarded?

bb, thanks for the awesome Aval Oru Pachakuzhandhai song.
While I'm at it, may I discuss the two SOTDs prior to this one?
Maanaatha Podi in Muthal Vasantham I already made a little comment on in the Raaga of Song thread.
Puthiya Paravai in Thendral Varum Theru I thought was strictly okay, nothing innovative.

Saro......enna romba.......:)
Nostalgia is the word for this song and ofcourse the freshness of IR's music. He came up with one ace after an other in that period.

Digression: Panama Pasama was a remake of a Hindi film or vice-versa, what was its hindi counterpart?
