I am glad other people like Ramesh, Music_lover, Venki are reflecting the same views.
TiS or thirukural in symphony or natupura padalgal in symphony or whatever--it should be done professionally and with grace for IR. As others pointed, please do not take a 'bill book' and ask for donations. THIS IS NOT A NOBLE SERVICE to IR. ALL of you are giving him a pathetic look. He is fine. He DOES NOT need our pity. If we need more music from him, do it professionally.
If TiS is his life ambition, as the organizers claim, then let him spend his money to do it. He isn't a pauper.
FOR HEAVEN's sakes, the people around him, just for popularity sake or whatever reasons do not drag him for all this. he was quite inapproachable during his peak time, WISH he maintained that.
Can u all imagine how PATHETIC IR will look if all these bill books circulate for a charity music while ARR goes around composing music for sony, hollywood symphony; while HJ ranks top in audio sales etc.??????
I see the same trend here: the people who hosted the so-called 'official website' by taking couple of pictures with him and signed notice, trying to get popular (by the way, i don't see their participation in TiS which shows ego clash?). God only knows-for what reasons, these are arising.
One should tie up several things with IR for this kind of a cause.
like:
Fanaticism
Tamil patru
PITY

First I had only doubts about IR's awareness about the happenings of TIS. But now I realize how PATHETIC it will be if we carry around donation tickets for his project.
There are thousands of reasons why IR is not so popular and millions of reasons why he lives in the hearts of many. Please friends, no comparision with other MDs here. Everybody knows what he is capable of.
1. The so called Official Website.
Everything was OK. But when I scrolled down to the donations section and saw several lakhs in the donations, I felt that there is something wrong. IR is not that kind of person who needs to take donations.
2. Yahoo Group: Maestro Ilaiyaraaja Fans Club
I think atleast few of the members there are trusting that IR would accept donations. I don't know how many of them have an authentic source to believe TiS. I regularly visit this group. There are very interesting postings. I Relish all the postings about IR music.
3. News in Vikatan!
There was no news in any other media. Still don't know IR doesn't talk about the project. TiS is no more a secret.
4. Letter From IR.
I got the right word from you, bug (@ 207.44.154.35). SIGNED NOTICE!
5. Sridhar Seetharaman and few other defenders in this thread.
Mr. Sridhar Seetharaman had already told that he does not know Illyaraja and only trusts Fr. Jagath. How about the rest of the defenders. How do you think your trust in Fr. will lead to others trust also.
I don't think this is a project initiated by Ilayaraja. This might be something, few of us are trying to force him to do.

Dear all,
This thread was started only to invite all the IIR fans to support a truly noble project which will stand in time and will help our future generation to learn and play our music without any hazzle. As usual, negative forces who are just scouting all over the website have infiltrated here too and have started playing their game to distract the course. You would have met the "same set of people" doing the same bashing all the time.[Eg:refer to "what happened to IR's symphony#1" back in May] It is not proper and fair for the name of IIR to keep replying to these pessimisms and bashings which will not help the real cause. Bearing this in mind, I[we] refrain from commenting on those accusations and appeal to all the other fans also to do the same. I[We] assure you that this thread will be kept active and alive by all of us with positive and authentic information as and when it happens and I[we] once again appeal to all the true IIR fans in USA [We need only 1000]to get in touch with us for additional information. In the meantime, we are glad to inform you that despite all these negative influences, this project is going on as expected and IIR will definitely come out with his symphony music this time.
Let me conclude with a 'copied' anecdote from a thread elsewhere in the same page by one Mr.'cinemavirumbi'with ref. to Kavingnar Vaali's Rickshakkaaran song, which is very apt to the present discussion and IIR as well. I thank Mr. 'Cinemavirumbi' for the same. Here it is:
" In "Rikshakkaran", Vaali was requested to write a song with MGR holding a child and singing of taking revenge of the villains! Kavignar started with " naan oru kai paarkkiREn! neram varum kEtkiREn ! Poonaiyalla pulithaan endRu pOgap pOgak kaattugiREN!" This was found to be too harsh, especially with a child in hand. Then he wrote the lines, " angE sirippavargaL sirikkattum adhu aaNava sirippu, ingE nee sirikkum punsirippO aanandha sirippu!"
This was kept as the first stanza and the " naan oru kai paarkkiREn" portion was taken to the end as the finale! Now, we can appreciate the whole thing better, can't we?"

TiS is IIR's child!
See you all soon with more updates. As usual, my id is there! Pl. contact.

Dear friends,
TIS has evoked extreme reactions by the looks of it. There are people who are eternal skeptics and people who have unquestioned faith in this project.
This project was meant to be different from the very start. It is an ambitious project and its dreams have no bounds. The budget for this project is unlimited if it has to go its length. It wants to survive centuries as much as the book has survived many centuries. The project cannot follow conventional means of music production as it stands today.
Todays music industry is rooted in capitalism. Money in and money out. Whether music survives after the profits is no concern of the music industry. it is a dog-eat-dog world today in terms of the music industry. Why will a music company want to invest unlimited sums of money for a creation that wants to stand the test of time, when it is not sure whether the company itself will survive beyond 10 years!!! Creations that stand the test of time have a slow pick up. Similarly, TIS may not have any mass appeal at all and people may not be able to relate with the music at all. So which music industry is going to promote it?
Charity and philanthropy are integral to indian culture. In Indian history, for centuries; poets, musicians and other enlightened souls were survived by the philanthropists, Kings mainly and the landlords. Thiruvasagar's story is also about how he was survived by the kindness and the charity of his King. The finance generating agencies in the United Kingdom such as Cancer Research Society, OXFAM, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Festival Hall etc etc etc for various cultural, health related needs are all Charity Trusts. They survive on the goodwill, generosity of people. Why does this neo-rich middle-class community in tamilnadu or india have this prelidiction to skepticism when it comes to parting with few rupees for a cause???
I agree that this whole project has all the elements of a well engineered scam to generate money. Finally it boils down to FAITH. Do you have the ability to believe? Faith is a gift and not all have it.

KAVIN, Bravo, the words i wanted to hear! Very true, right on the dot. It is all Faith and support. Every good action, thought comes back later than sooner. I know IR has got magic, he knows that music companies don't deserve that much credit has his fans and philanthropists. IR simply wants to make this a people production, not commerical and many fans maybecome sceptics because IR personally did not reach out thru the media. Why should he, with the quality of cult fan base more than any creative artiste can even dream of. The world today needs an IR to unite in cultural bonds, material and commercial bonds are falling apart, but cultural ties live eternally as we see today in the French, West' appreciation of the Indian culture.
God Bless Thiruvasakam and the IR's Vision!

There is some info in the TIS official site:
"The release is now slated to be in the New year. The reason is the massive logistical requirements in completing the work. The Music album will be released in January 2004. We invite you to support this project by placing pre-publication orders."
Hopefully, it gets released coming Jan.

There's a lot of pessimism among people here claiming to be IR fans. I guess they have good reason to be pessimistic after anxiously awaiting Sym #1 and so on.
But, I wish they would not let their past disappointments in awaiting IRs promissed releases get in the way of common courtessy.
What I mean is comments like 'Jegath, who asked you to come down from your pedestal?' etc.
As someone who has known Fr. Jegath's past work through Radio Veritas, I have a lot of respect for him and have complete faith in him.
If you don't have faith in IR, so be it. But please don't treat Fr. Jegath like a common criminal trying to swindle money out of your pocket. It is not civil.
Thank you. I hope you all take this note in the right spirit.

Folks,
Though Ramesh could have avoided certain slur remarks and could have come out with a cleaner mail, he does have valid points. His bottomline is that we dont make this an amateur project that will bring disgrace to any party concerned.
Point well taken. Let us move on.
