Ali,
Ghazal song sung by SPB could be Jeeye tho Jeeye from Saajan. Although its a movie song, I believe its a Ghazal.
4 singers have sung the same song, listen to each of them and find out for yourselves who sings the best.
Regards,
Man.

The CD i mentioned is called : "Enathu Isai Payanam: S.P. B and family" It is a 2 disc set. Gangai Amaran conducts the whole show. Accolades by Lata, SJ, MSV, Kalaingar, Kamal, Rajini, Vali, etc. The whole program is outstanding. A lot of anecdotes. Extremely good recording quality...
It is released by RPG. Should be availlable in CD stores. I bought it in Chicago (Devon Ave , of course). I saw it last week in a store in Minneapolis.

Manzoor:
"jeeyen to jeeyen kaise bin aapke" is NOT by SPB - its Pankaj Udhas I think.
I do not recall any ghazal or qawwali by SPB. But why should he sing these types (pure North Indian forms) when he is such a master at light Carnatic?
You dont judge LM by her Tamil songs, or PS by her Hindi songs, or Kapil Dev by his football skills, do you? Similarly u cant judge SPB by his Hindi songs. His Hindi songs are AWFUL but he is a legend for singing so many beautiful songs in Telugu,Tamil,Kannada and Malaylam

Avr:
Manzoor is Right in saying that "Jeeye tho Jeeye" was sung by SPB + Pankaj udhas, I have the CD at home, SPB easily outshines Pankaj, but then again Pankaj is a good singer.
You are 100% correct in saying "You dont judge LM by her Tamil songs, or PS by her Hindi songs, or Kapil Dev by his football skills, do you? Similarly u cant judge SPB by his Hindi songs.he is a legend for singing so many beautiful songs in Telugu,Tamil,Kannada and Malaylam".
small digression, how on Earth can you say SPB's Hindi songs are awful, was it because of his pronounciation of Hindi words, if so, is that a criteria for singing?, if his Hindi songs are awful, then how come , he won his first Hindi National award for "tere mere beechu me"?, how come his Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum apke khon, Saajan, Saagar,were super hits, how come Salman Khan insisted on SPB singing for him, I will tell you way, because of SPB' deep voice which suited Salman Khan.
oh BTW, what about "Sun baliya sukirya" by SPB + ALga Yaknik?, what about the ghazzal that won SPB an award, which was composed by Naushad Ali? I am not a fluent Hindi speaker, there for I can not comment on SPB's hindi pronounciation.
Ali:
please stop saying that SPB said Rafi is the greatest singer ever, 100 times, we all know that SPB has said that. Did you also know that , SPB said KJY & Unni krsihnan are better singer than him, can you believe that, well does that mean KJY or Unni are better than SPB???, you must be joking!

SPBs Hindi pron. is not good at all. Awards do not necessarily mean a song is good at all. The songs of saajan,maine pyar kiya,HAHK... are pretty mediocre compositions in the first place. SPbs singing in those is really nothing great,. Again superhits do not mean quality-songs.
"sun beliya....." is by LM and SPB in 100 Days I think.
No raghu, SPB may be very great, even the best - but when it comes to Hindi songs, I am glad that he isnt doing those too often. One more reason is when u have IR,ARR,KVM here - why should one care for nadeem shravan and jatin lalit.

Avr;
Ok, perhaps SPB's pronounciation is not good at at all, like I said my Hindi knowledge is Limited.
yeah, you are right about "sun beliya" it is from 100 days, rendered by SPB + LM, I think the the actor was Jackie shroff.
oh BTW do you know a song by SPB for Mithun Charaborti, it has some tamil lines like "naan than krishnan iyer,..etc", do you know the name of the film???

that song shows South Indians in poor taste. Such songs are blasphemous IMO. If u are a proud South Indian, u shouldnt even think of this one. Another such song to be avoided is "ek chatur naar" from padosan.
If there was a Hindi song that made fun of my own language and culture, I would ignore it completely in the first place.

Oh sorry, I was not aware of that, I just happen to hear it once in local radio station in UK,
BTW, who sings "ek chatur narr", is it SPB?

>>>please stop saying that SPB said Rafi is the greatest singer ever, 100 times, we all know that SPB has said that. Did you also know that , SPB said KJY & Unni krsihnan are better singer than him, can you believe that, well does that mean KJY or Unni are better than SPB???, you must be joking!
There is a difference in saying one is better than the other, and one is the greatest. SPB says KJY is better than him because he has high respect for his abilities. And he may have said Unni is better than him just to encourage him. I have said before that I disagree with unrealistic encouragement as in SPB telling Unni he is better than him when in reality it is totaly out of question. There are many other ways to encourage a person than a veteran telling a youngster he is better than him. Now SPb has said Rafi is the greatest. He has not said this about any other singer. He may have said KJY is better than him but he did not say KJY is the ultimate. It is just like me saying "Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are better than me but Don Bradman is the greatest of all time". There is a difference in that statement. So you shouldn't put SPb praising
Rafi and Yesudas and UK all in the same category because he has praised Rafi in a completely different manner.
I have an article that i found recently and wanted it to share it with you. It talks about Non-Telegu singers singing telegu songs. I will just post a piece of the article and you guys can go read the rest if you want :
"The entry of non-Telugu playback singers to Tollywood is not new today, it has been there for years. Moving our memory pointer about thirty years back we realize that it was Swargiya Dr. NTR who introduced Mohammad Rafi to Tollywood to sing for his movie Aaradhana. The makers of that movie wanted to use a same tune that was used in a Hindi movie. The tune was "Aaja Tuj ko pukaare mere geet re.. o mere mithwa". They were of the opinion that Mohammad Rafi was the only playback singer who could modulate his pitch so effectively and so he was approached with the offer. Mohammad Rafi said that if the producers felt that he would not kill the language he would definitely sing in Telugu. And so he sang the same tune in Telugu as "Naa madi ninnu pilichindi gaanamai venu gaanamai naa praanamai" and then the entry of non-Telugu singers started into our beloved Tollywood. "

Whether SPB said Rafi is the greatest or great or good....It doesnt change anything. He is humble, and he is not Mohammed Ali to go around saying "I am the Greatest"
SPB calling Rafi the greatest (with all due respects to SPB himself) is NOT an objective statement of fact. Get real! Since when did you become such an unwavering beleiver of SPB's ability to judge who is the greatest?

north or south, east or west, spb is the greatest film music singer ever born in India. I am listenting to his songs from the days of Sumathi en Sundari. His outstanding abilities, versatilities can be seen in innumerable songs and it will take months togather to discuss all his outstading songs. So, Mr.Ali, by just taking some samples from Hindi movies, do not come to the conclusing that rafi is better. Rafi is several places down .

Music Fan;
I have heard the song u have mentioned, this guy is simply amazing he sings between key 30 - key 35, without SPB the song is total crap ,the md being Deva, but the credit goes to SPB!
Ali;
Please listen to a song by SPB in "Red", @ dhool.com or raaga.com, please stop saying that SPB praised Rafi 100 times, that does not prove anything!This guy even gave up a song which he was going to sing to Malaysia Vasudevan, that just shows his humble personality.
If you want to prove Rafi is better than SPB, then please do so with prove, not SPB's or your personal opinions. I will then prove it to you that SPB is better than Rafi, with due respect to both of the legends.
N.Rajkumar;
Most narrow minded North Indians do not appreciate south Indian Artists talents, plus they have no taste in music, that's why they worship nasal idiots like Kumar Sanu & Udit Narayan.but 4 some reason south indians are importing these nasal idiots into TFM & spoiling the real beauty of TFM!, thanks to ARR for introducing such a crap load of nasalists.

i agree.The song tune/composition in Red is nothing fascinating.But true to his class, SPB elevates the song to such stratospheric heights that u end up thinking ,"Is there a place where SPB's voice does not reach ?"
Its a pity other more accomplished music directors these days do not think how they are wasting away SPB's still youthful voice.
Thanks
