There has always been a complaint in TFM DF that IR fans manipulate ratings etc.
Please visit the latest opinion poll conducted by Kumudam. IR wins by huge majority. If you find time, please read through the various opinions from all over the world. It is really amazing to find that we are not alone in praising IR - The Genius

jacky whatever these bumps say abt ARR...
everyone knows that after Thiayagaran(or whoever..sorry i cant remeber well)) it was MSV..after MSV it was IR and after IR it is ARR...
just ask anyone ...they woudl admit it...but that doesn't mean that IR is gone...just that ARR is more than IR at this time..that's all....

Folks!
People are got misunderstand and started fight with others, ( IR Periya aalla? ARR Periya aalla? Yarr adiham award vangiyadu, Yar adiham panam sambarichadu endru),
Really this is not good. The both composers are belongs to different genres like JJ said, ( I also said the same thing) and both are Rombavum Pesappattavarhal. (by others) and something special.
So, the discussion must be both MD's Music contribution, the creativity, arrangement, Melody, and the popularity, and whose song or songs still living in peoples mind in large,
Criticize the mistake's and appreciate the good ones, wether it may be whole song or small piece's in the song, or BGM music and orchestration, so whole TFM fans and music lovers can gain something, nor improve their music capabilities.
Person's like jj and JJ ( there lot of guys her) can share their music knowledge with others.
Adai vitu vitu namakkulle adithukkondal Nalladha?
Think and continue....... best wishes!

"i still remember an interview in DD by Raja in 93/94 where he said people have lost their taste for good music."
that's funny. if u can remember his interview 10 years ago, u can't remember all the 'amma' food he has given you for life.
"When MSV was there tamil movie songs used to be higly carnatic based, when raja came he kinda gaved mixed songs, songs like aasai kathulu thothu vittu and en iniya pon nilave had touches of western influence.Did MSV say people lost their sense for good music, he never."
Yes, he wouldn't dare to say that. He knows what IR is capable of. When a person recognises other's talent, they will not have much to say will they?
He knows/knew IR's capability. He knows IR has enough talent to give a Sindhu Bhairavi or wat not whenever he wants. And he also knew that he can learn a thing or two in bgm form IR. MSV had so much respect for IR simply because for not only did he not neglect the art of film scoring, he even shocked everyone what a bgm can do.
"The same thing happened when Rahman came in 92, its a transition. When rahman was giving hits one over other Raja had his setbacks,"
Setbacks?? this is news to everyone....
"i personally had a belief that Raja would come back strongly but its turned out to be a dissapointment."
And i personally would have to tell u what dear Kamal already said. "What comeback?"
"His music in Siraichalai was a total let down.
How many hits did he churn out in the last few years? probably a few songs in hey ram.
kadalukku mariyathai one song in alagi - oliyele
u really need to think hard and scrath to remember his hits these days."
Did u realise the beauty of 'Unthan Raajiyathil' in Aandan Adimai? So what "think hard" & "scratch" r u talkin abt?
"Raja definetly lost his midas touch!"
Just because you stop hearing abt Tchaikovsky or Prokofiev or Rozsa, does it mean they lost their midas touch?
Grow up.

dear ambleen,
i was never meant to hurt any raja's fans or raja.
can u read my post the 1st one.
last ten years and the first ten years of raja are definetly not the same.
The quality of tunes he churned out like
en inya pon nilave
pani vizum malar valam
thaikida thakimi from salangai oli
kalyana malai kondadum penne are just few examples of how raja magnatized the audience which definetly was not to the same extent.
That is what my post meant.
Just wanted to clarify, by the way u seem to be an ardent raja fan so please donate considerably to his thiruvasakam project rather than asking me to grow up.
i hope u know the link where to donate if u dont know dont ask me use google :)
Lol!

Guys!
Good Calculation that "paran" did, but new peoples may get convinced by this but other's ????? .
OK,!!!!! if it is the case anyone can do calculation like this:
How many total films music done by IR and ARR., and each film how many songs? also in that how many made hit? and how many supper hit?, how many Pure Carnatic based? , which raga is moistly used in their compose? Are these 2 people used same raga?... How many? if it so, who handled or used the raga maximum? and whose how many song(s) hit? How many supper hit.
People can include how many purely copy cut? How many inspired? (I hope that our guys can understand between copy cut and inspired).
Do the calculation and get the percentage, then people can understand....... who is who?
Thnks

Jacky,
And my point being IR chooses to do what he wants to do. Listen to Jerry Goldsmith's 60's and 70's film scores and listen to Total Recall. Listen to Scorpions and Deep Purples 70's music vs their 90's music. You will know what I mean.
It is stupid to doubt IR's talent. Only childish ppl wld get carried away in that direction. Unlike others, it's a whole lot different than being short of talent.

Jacky,
i want to add only one observation, longest continuous streak of hits for more than 10 years IR has that repute. Let me know any MD in TFM giving consistent good songs, BGM added to that and a movie just running for the name of a MUSIC DIRECTOR. i dont undermine anybody. But IR did that and nobody can dispute that fact
ARR did make some changes and his style was new swift, youthful et all.. But i still consider him not so good in BGM xcept a few places here and there. But the Industry is also not like the way it used to be.. Music(song) rights are different from Movie rights now-a-days, b4 it was all a total package.
Secondly: After being in a industry for so long, so strong, it is natural to have a lean period, even a raaga has avarohanam, Raja had his, and still he comes out with amazing tunes that makes all the new comers think, that there is a new dimension to music and IR keeps finding it somehow.. Listen to Virumaandi, Pithamagan
Thirdly: the bad thing about IR music is his recording.. the songs dont come with that much quality in recording (dont confuse with Quality in composition).
It is stupid to say IR went for Quantity and ARR went for Quality.. which is absolutely not making n e sense. If u think IR songs did not have quality.. then what do u call Quality?

some one came up with a list of 11 IR songs claimed to be copied. All these 11 songs were only inspirations..not blatant copies like ARR and others are capable of. And even if u call it copies 11/3500 songs is not a bad record for copying by an indian MD.

Friends,
I've been following this post and i think it's better some people understand the point made on this forum before replying.
This is a divided forum some people wanna make this forum interesting, some people like jacky point out the hard reality and a few give an emotional reply.
we are all here to share our thoughts and make this forum more interesting. Why not we do that?
I am middle aged man and i've been listening to music from Raja's times.
Raja and rahman cannot be compared at all as they were unique in their own respectives.
Raja had composed fantastic melodies, superb carnatic songs, folk music, and few western style numbers too.
Rahman started with a western influence and slowly adapted to all genre of indian music like punjabi, gazals, carnatic, hindustani etc.
I see a lot of ardent fans of raja saying rahman strives by copying, i know a few numbers he copied but he never rose to fame by that, he had the talent, passion, how else could he have rose to the heights he is today, padmashree, 4 national awards, Annen is a fan of rahman (UN chief) , he works with andrew webber , these guys who appreciate rahman aren't blokes.
Raja concentrated a lot on tamil films, may be his style of music wasn't appreciated in hindi, that's why the national recognition eluded raja.
this doesnt mean he's medicre its just the times were different, RD burman was quite a dominant player in hindi and may the north indians liked RD's kind of music.
Another bitter fact is that Raja's tunes in the last 7-8 years hasn't reached the masses frequently as it used to in the 80's.
Like all Raja fans i too have a question i wanna ask Raja, why can't he cut the number of films just do some 7-10 films per year and make them super hits.
solla marantha kathai wasn't good at all.
I also wonder one more thing, Kamal hassan talks so much about Raja then why wasn't raja the first choice for hey ram? why did he opt L subramaniam?
Thankar bachan recently said he wasn't happy with the way the songs of solla marantha kathai and he has opted for Vidyasagar in his next venture.
Who is Thankar bachan to say such things?
I wish in 2004 we see works of raja matching his previous works like Hey ram and the albums of yesteryears!
Sridhar.

Sridhar,
Thangar keeps changing his words. I also read that he waited for three months and as IR did not give dates, he has to necessarily move to VS. He gave credit to VS that he equalled IR(not surpassed IR).
In Solla Marantha Kathai three songs are really good. "kattula","Gundu Malli" and "Etho".(including lyrics). All other are trash agreed. Heard it had good BGM too. IR started giving good songs eventhough he is not at his best.
