Dinesh,
As I know, ARR said that he likes IR's punctuality. He is surprised by it. I have not read anything other than that by ARR musically on IR.

when ever you post a message that IR copied nobody will respond if it is the same with ARR we can see so many threads bashing him to pieces.
What a biased set of people.

The title of the song is "Thanga Pathakathin Melae".
Regarding ARR's Guru IR, I am not going to argue about something which we don't have anything on record. But I got to say one thing ARR should be very open about that in India then we can believe.

dhuan dhuan sounds like ada machchan from chinna veedu though slightly toned down in rhythm. The prelude itself seems to be inspired from the 'Island Groove' in Planet Drums by Mickey Hart.

The first 20 second tabla bit in an old MSV song, "En vaanathil aayiram velli nilavu" from "Kaviyathalaivi" sounds remarkably close to the tabla in "Maanjolaik kilithaanoa" from "Kizhakkae Pogum Rayil".

Udhaya,
Romba correct. Similarly,
The mridangam bit in the song, "Mahaganapathim" in Seshagopalan's katcheri yesterday sounded remarkably close to the mridangam bit in the song, "Sara saksha" sung by Bombay Jayashere 2 weeks ago.

Watched a German film (english title-'School trip') over the weekend. The film was about a loner, an aloof teenage guy, brillaint in studies, constantly bullied by his classmates. Only one girl sympathises with him and becomes his friend. He gets obsessed by her but she is in love with another guy..and our hero turns into a psychopath.
Does the story line reminds you of one of the greatest tamil hits of 2003?
Dhanush must have watched this film few 100 times because he has totally copied the german hero's body language and mannerisms, especially the scene where he tries to kill the girls boyfriend.(Only difference in the german version is the hero succeeds in killing the girls bf).
Looks like our tamil directors are looking beyond hollywood for inspirations:)

KP:
Searched a bit about this original and found its German title to be 'Klassenfahrt' and indeed, the story is amazingly similar to KK!
http://imdb.com/title/tt0311403/usercomments
So its not just YSR who has won acclaim with 3 non-original compositions...Selvaraghavan is in the fray too with the story itself being lifted. Actually I dont have any issues with that since the screenplay I'm sure has been considerably Tamilised. Except for one nagging issue - credit. Selvaraghavan won a lot of praise for the different story, which should have rightfully gone to the German director. And thats where you find out Selvaraghavan is simply a shameless plagiarist. Whats disturbing is that Selvaraghavan thought nobody would find out that he's lifted...in this age of internet/P2P thats incredibly funny.
Compare this with Vishal Bharadwaj's recent 'Maqbool'. The movie was a fantastic adaptation of Macbeth and every single article and review had included this info...not to mention Vishal himself talking about it in every single interview.

.
There is well known Hollywood version of "Klassenfahrt", a B-grade cult film in English, called "FEAR" (the girl's role was done by a teen age Reece Weatherspoon). The Dhanush film was a copy of FEAR, including the body mannerisms etc... (doubt whether dhanush has the capacity to go as far afield as German to do the noble act of copying)

THIS IS SIMPLY IDIOTIC..
they are trying to make fool out of Indian Audience...and unfortunately they were successful...
man...they copied the story and we made it a hit
they copied the music...and we made it hit..
he copied the body language and we made him a super star...
shame on SelvaRaghavan, Dhanush and YSR...
with this kinda rapport how could anyone compare him with Maniratnam!...idiotic and moronic act of Indian Film Industry....
shameless Trio...

what's more annoying is that they claim that the story is half based on Dhanush's schoolmate..
and Selva worked on the script for a very long time....

Who cares about its a copy when you talk about kathal kondean, at least its not a typical tamil movie with "mothal, paadal, kathal, paadal, sandai, paadal, sogam, paadal, happy ending". The movie would have been more great to watch without the songs especially the song yuvan shankar raja sung for the movie.

I guess we must go easy with Selvaragavan but if somebody compares him with Manirathnam thats just crazy.
Personally i didnt enjoy KK much but i think Selvaragavan can grow into someone who can be little different even he continues to adapt scripts from somewhere.
The much over hyped commercial directors like Hari and Ks ravikumar are damn squib.
When people can accept Kamal hassan adapt mrs.doubtfire and whats wrong with bob, we should go easy with guys like Selvaragan and the new croppers cuz they may not grow into another Charan (Gemini) or a Hari (Kovil).

It's very sad to see the amount of Vaytherichal in this forum. Kadhal Konden was a super hit, no matter where it came from. Many people have taken remakes of other movies that are awful. At least the movie was great. Dhanush did a great job, as did Selva and Yuvan. Don't try to bring them down. If you can do better, please give it a go.
Just because the film is similiar to Fear, I have seen many movies with similiar storylines, it does not mean it is a remake or a copy of an english movie.
Grow up people.

I don't feel for or against Kadhal Kondaen but just to add to the possible sources for the storyline:
-the Nagesh-Dhanush characters and the orphanage setting is just like the Michael Caine-Tobey Maguire characters in "Cider House Rules"
-the reluctant genius student with a troubled past is similar to Matt Damon's character from "Good Will Hunting"
-kidnapping and holding the girl captive is from the old British movie, "The Collector" which was later copied in "Moodupani"
