Compare and Contrast IR's musical style(s), especially with the BGM tracks, with those of composers of Hollywood, viz., Maurice Jarre, Henri Mancini, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernstein, John Barry, Alan Sylvistri, Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, James Horner and so on

"Dear NY metro area Music Fans,
The venue for the NY gathering is in the process of being finalised this evening ( most probably in the Flushing Ganesh Temple hall) for the Saturday evening ( May 22nd). I request all music fans from NY metro area to make yourself free to participate and contribute as much as possible for the program and the success of "TIS" project. There will be a surprise guest who would be willing to preside the function ( who as worked with Maestro in few of the greatest songs of Tamil,...hint.... Rajaparvai) again this will be confirmed by this evening.
For sincere fans of Music( Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam), if you happen to be out of NY or Tristate area please feel free to inform your freinds and relatives who live in NY to attend the program, because of the short time period I am trying to find as many different ways as possible to inform maximum number of
fans to make use of this great opportunity
( It is nice weather here in NY, it is a weekend, and there are easy means to reach the venue and of all it is a life time opportunity to associate oneself with a great project like this involving Tamil literature and music by none other than the living legend Maestro IR)

Prabhudas AKA Pinchi Srinivasan - I am not in NJ - I am very much in Mera Bharat - India! in fact, I was to have been on a short visit to Indiana this week - would have coincided with IR's visit - but I had to cancel my trip at the last moment

Srivatsan..It is quite possible I may be wrong. One count example I myself can think of is - enna solli paaduvathO:En mana vaanil. The strings are so tightly woven with the vocals, I have never seen such integration before. The Maestro defies any generalisation. I only hope he would excuse me for any errors on my part and only take it positively.
I was in India, last october, but could not meet either Father Jegath or the Maestro, as my now 3 year old son, was not well. NY/NJ Maestro fans have a very good opportunity to meet an icon. If westerners think of Taj Mahal and the poverty or probably software offshoring at the mention of India. To me India reminds me of my language (tamil) and the music of the Maestro.

Any one who would have watched various bond movies, would have surely given a thought about how IR would have fit to the schemes in spy/ action/ adventure movies. John barry who did countless bond movies has a jazzy touch to his scores that is so evident in all bond scores. I was wondering if there was any parallel for that kind of score in tfm.
Raja would have done so many such scores, for our all flying heroes, who with out the technical mastery of the western films, can manage (albeit awkwardly) to fly between two buildings, escape (without a scratch!) from the thousands of bullets trying to kiss them. The visuals may not be as good as their western counterparts, but i have always believed that the score is competent enough.
To support my above argument, i will present the “Johny” chase track. Absolutely bind boggling theme. One can easily draw a parallel with that of John Barry’s bond scores. The way the percussion and the guitar are used is absolutely phenomenal. The guitar (Bass Guitars!!) riffs indicates the gravity of the situation the protagonist is in and his constant attempt to come out of the mess he is in. One thing that stands out of this track is the transition when the adventure centric track deviates for a subtle period to show his helplessness. (Or is it the suffering of his loved ones. Some one who have seen the movie please explain!) (from 03.08 to 03:20). This is truly class, an out and out adventure score.
Uploaded to the coolgoose repository is the “Johny” track

By the way, music_lover, gyan, k, srivatsan and others, if you have listened to john barrys “Dance with the wolves” theme, there is a intermittent percussion play that don’t gel with the theme, yet its so intriguing. Have IR done such sort of scores?.

This is funky!. This track from vikram, on the genre of action/ adventure film again establishes the fact that IR given a theme, as such would have made countless unforgettable tracks in Hollywood movies famous for its make believe adventure themes.
The way IR uses janaki for the vocal overlaps to mesmerizing effect and the electric guitars weaves a magic that will leave us all gasping for breath for some time. Listen to the track from http://www.coolgoose.com/go/song?id=118083
A perfect theme for a maverick!!. So funky. :)
Gyan, you were asking for a compelling theme on the likes of U2 (Mission Impossible theme), if possible hear Astor Piazzola 12 monkeys theme. (its as compelling as the u2 version).

3 European nations (Webber, UK; Pascal Heni France; Mossima Simmonini - Italy) now are admiring Indian film music as "expansive", particularly IR' Italians think is Kaalidascopic. Meaning various pieces put together. Let them take their time to understand that a 1 hour Symphony can sound very captivating as a 4 IR composition or for that matter, any other Indian film song. Yes, it is memorable to hear the same few symphony for 4 centuries, what about something new, different, faster, brilliant, thrilling, etc.. and why not an Indian film song, an exquisite and brilliant art form condemned as farcical tree hugging overtures by our own upper-class and even middle-class? Wake up, music lovers. Hear the song, hundreds of thousands of them, made possible by the natural outcome of cultural, spiritual progress and openness.
once someone said in the forum, film songs of India is going to be the most captivating musical form ever. Massimo has made it happen in Italy thru IR.

Osho..man that track was too ahead of its times, I think. Sounds like some modern day dance loops. Gyan's vikram bit was really great. Bass, drums, electric guitar - I can't believe IR went around the villages of TN with a tabla accompanying his brother paavalar. It looks like he has hanging out with long haired rock musicians too much :) :)
BTW, who are you guys ? where from are you guys digging out such high quality BGM bits ?
I dont really listen to BGM that much. Actually, I was never into movies, saw very little during my childhood. But I liked IR songs, especially after coming to the US. The main thing I like about his music, is the flow and the parallelism in it (i am CS graduate). It is this western concept of harmony married to a indian melody that keeps my mind perked/intrigued at the same time providing some sort of relaxation/stress relief that I like about his music. Lot of people make very good music, but this therauputic effect is what makes IR's music so special, in my experience.

k, the vikram bit is actually cut and paste from the "Vikram" song sung by Kamal for the film Vikram. This is what i am trying to emphasize, his songs are a class with or without the vocals. I love the instrumentation in his songs as much as i love the vocals. They actually emote as much as the lead vocal do.
