Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

Jag,
Sorry I don't watch malayalam, telegu,or even hindhi movies the only one i was aware of was Koyi Mil Gaya cuz my bro told me to watch it. And by sci-fi i mean pertaining to robots and aliens, just to let you kno, dont know the story lines of the others. But at least itll be a first for tamil i know that much.
As for the figures, Someone told me that they exaggerated the numbers. That's why i was saying that. But i mean watching the movie I can see where money i spent but I dont think it would cost enormous amounts....course I dont know how much a crore is in terms of dollars.I know a crore is a million rupees right? Anyone kno the exchange rate rupees to dollars?
Maddy:
so he makes one movie like this and you throw him out of the window. Aren't people allowed to make....I would say mistakes but I don't think it was a mistake. Maybe a mistake to think the tamil audience is mature. Because the trailers clearly pointed out it was going to be this type of movie. So there is no fault in Shankar or Rathnam.
What do you like?Cause all it seems is you like putting down anyone that does anything.

Digression:
Piratheepan,
Just to let you in on info on these exciting movies in case you come by them:
1. Mr.India - has the story of a scientific invention- invisibility device. dir. Shekar Kapur. Excellent movie
2. Aditya 369(aboorva shakti 369-tamil) - has the story of a Time machine
dir:Singeetham, again an excellent movie, that coming from a fan of Back to the future and Time Machine(stg. Rod Taylor)
3. Devi Putrudu (Pappa -tamil)- Archeology and Fantasy . avg movie but never before seen graphics in Indian movie
4.Iyer the great- Story of a modern day nostradamus. stg:Mammotti, good movie
Try to watch these thrilling movies from the past
End digression:
A lot of hi-fi technology has gone into making boys. E.g. the time freeze technique which, I am told, requires around 10 (or 25) cameras operating at the same time. Advanced technology in sound recording. AM Rathnam hired a part of mount road for 3 days to shoot the streaking scene which has cost him around 10-15lakhs. And the remuneration of shankar and rahman are quite high, approx 1 crore to each I believe. So the numbers may not be exaggerated after all. They are all in rupees.

INDIAN,
You think BOYS depicted 'vulgarity', is it? So, what does the word 'vulgar' actually mean? Smoking? Drinking? Or what? It would be great if you specifically list ALL things you considered as "vulgar" in the movie so we can debate better. (Btw., definitely you can't say "the whole movie was vulgar" because it definitely will be false).
The second half was just the same as any other film that you may consider decent. And, regarding the first half, tell me, are you a BOY aged somewhere around 17-19? If not, you must not be posting. It is exactly what most boys in Chennai (or Hyderabad for that matter) do in those ages. If you have DVD of the film, do watch the scene where VIVEK speaks to the BOYS's parents, again.
What did Shankar depict in the film INDIAN? Reality. What did Shankar depict in the film MUDALVAN? Reality. What did Shankar depict in the film GENTLEMAN? Reality. What did he depict in the film KADALAN? Again, reality. This is just what I like about Shankar. He doesn't film things (unlike other directors) that doesn't happen in normal life. And, he has done the same with BOYS. I definitely appreciate him for his work. His skill hasn't at all diminished in all this time. The screenplay, as in every film of his, had been really wonderful.
MADDY,
My only question to you is this: "Did anyone ever ask you to think Shankar is a social reformist?". It is just his wish to direct films of his choice, and it is up to you to like the film or not.
I will post replies to all your replies after OCTOBER 6th (I am going on vacation). See you all.

And Bala personally i think he still needs to prove his merit.
Piratheepan,
You are kidding me right? There should be a limit to comparison, this is way out of senseless. Bala took his time to mould the screen-play and the story and not Gimmicks. n e ways that was my opinion.
It is not the content that mattered, but the presentation that caused the hue and cry. Well we might say, we need to change, but the change also should be gradual, if it is shocking, then it is kind of odd to accept
Remember Madonna & Britney's kiss, that shocked the whole US, even though the Russian Chicks did the same thing in MTV's awards, what is the difference, coz ppl have a pre-determined notion of certain people and things, if it is disturbed, small or big, they get the ripple effect.
Shankar seems to be in that boat

hey anynomous guy,, i love shankar....i enjoyed Boys first half too but the problem it could have been more subtle description of vulgarity....... i dunt think "Boys" go to ranganthan street and have a dash at aunties...that scene hurt me the most......

No I am not kidding you.Yes Sethu was a great movie, but his second movie Nandha wasn't that great. Kinda liek a Sethu part 2,does that make more sense in conveying my opinion?Just his two movies were very similair is all I am trying to say.And that he's still new to business.
As for that kiss, yes it "shocked" america for what 1-2 days. And it was just pretty much a way of getting rating and no one really talked about it except the media for 1 or days. After that it was gone.Except here with Boys people have nothin better to do.Bans and stuff going on. Guess when you have so many people without work this is what happens.
Jag:
I think ive Mr.India, that was a good movie.
The camera freeze technique takes around 60-65 cameras. And teh sound recording I don't see why taht would cost so much, maybe because it's new in India I guess. Because I've even made movies with 5.1 surround sound.Course it was not as great as one for a real movie, but you get my point. You just got to love the kinds of programs you can get off the internet.

Piratheepan,
The difference in Bala's Stories was he took more time to MOULD THE SCREENPLAY rather than a thin Screenplay with more Gimmicks..
About the Kiss: they showed it one time, but Boys is playing in theatres.. (probably you know where i am getting it)

MusicIsLife:
They showed American Pie in the theaters too.
And as for Bala's screenplay of course a directors first movie will have a great screen play nothing compares to Gentlemen when it comes to films with messages....other then Indian. I'm just saying I will decide about Bala after Pithamagan because I wasn't impressed by Nandha, the story or the screenplay.
At least we are having good conversation, stead of just random bashing.Good job keep it up.

Piratheepan,
How many ppl in India watched American Pie, Who watches it? is it the general public or only ppl who understand english, then we talk about different categories of ppl. That is the reason here in this forum we find all youngsters and as well me dont find anything wrong with the movie, but the General mass has not adhered to you such a shocking revelation, which is GOOD by the way.
Then you might ask how come TI worked out pretty good, may be the handling of the subject, may be it was not superficial like Boyz (in terms of Pamaran standards, i am not degrading here, but my opinion).
Though we might argue, it is only for youngsters and things like that, it does not go that way, coz the hype, the Ad's were meant to reach all the public, when this is the scene, we should be able digest criticisms, but that does not mean the public is wrong. In my opinion who is wrong? The people who are opportunists by making a mountain out of the mole hill and making the same general public to believe in it...
Philosophical huh.. just my 2 cents (may be 3)
But still cannot agree to you regarding handling of the subject: it was a bold step by Bala to have his Mother kill the child which is against any Tamil film making, messages? i dont think Bala sent any messages through the 2 movies, he made something true story blend with some cinematic situations, but had a tremendous screen play and NO GIMMICKS (like graphics, extravaganza), but it surely felt more natural than any of the Shankar's movie except Indian..
