Thanks Saravanan for the confirmation on Aruvi MagaL song.
On Mannadhi mannan song:
In late 70's/early 80's, Malayamaarudham Ramaswamy has been writing his reviews (in Bommai) on newly released cassettes/albums. At that time, HMV released afresh the songs of MM (digital recorded or so). I still remember his exceptional comments “KangaL irandum song innamum rathinamaaga jolikkiradhu”. It was such a great song.
On the pronunciation of “parandhenum”: The film was released on 1960 and obviously the song must have been recorded at least 6 months back. In 1959-60, I am sure that there was no track recording or any kind of technology as existing now. Obviously external disturbance contributed to low quality in recording of songs. Not definitely attributed to the singer of having swallowed the words or pronounced incorrectly. Moreover PS was then upcoming and V-R would not have spared if it were a blunder from her end.
Whatever is, this song is a stunner and will be alive all the time :-)
On the picturization of the song: Shots of fight between MGR and Villain group were plugged in as part of interludes and it is so funny to watch their fight (or rather dance) in tune with music :-)
Mannadhi Mannan had a fabulous number “kalaiyOdu pirandhadhu unMai” by MLV. While P.S.Veerappa tries to approach Padmini with filthy aim, she starts this song. I don’t know how the director got such a great idea to introduce a song during such scene. Later in 70’s, distinguished director K.Balachander also adopted this style in his “Punnagai”, wherein Jayanthi sings the song “Aanaiyitten nerungadhey” while the villain SV Ramdoss ??) tries to his villain way. Funny imagination by the director/s :-)

Friends,
Some tidbits about 'raththak kaNNeer' (mentioned by Radha Ravi in some interview). It was written by Thiruvaaroor Thangaraasu. The original version (even before the play)was supposed to be about a woman who gets unduly westernised and ruins her own life totally! Later it was changed to a man and the rest is history! Many years later, Durai made a film called ' vEli thaaNdiya veLLaadu' with the original theme of 'raththak kaNNeer' (a woman going berserk)and people said it was an 'ulta' of 'raththak kaNNeer'!

Subbu, it doesn't look like a recording blunder that makes it look fishy. I heard the particular line again and again, and it sounded like "karandhEnum", wrongly sung.

Re " kutram purindhavan" . The one thing that comes to mind is of the innumerable times would some wannabe MRR would come dressed up as a leper - or to be politically right a person suffering from leprosy!- in our fancy dress /maaru vesha potti. What would have tilted the scales was basically it is very easy to do- tie torn vettis around your hands, stick up a few swabs of cotton on your face,( very important do not forget to put some cotton in your nostrils) take a thadi & an aluminum thooku you are it! Mouth "adi kantha ..., aam kutram purinthen , kondavallai maranthen... " the judges were suitably worried! It would more often than not get a special prize or mention - but never the first prize! probably the judges were worried they might get infected!
I caught up with the movie a decade ago the movie is loud, unbelievably over the top but there is a nonchalance to MRR's performance that is difficult to describe.
MRR could be an irritable tyrant, an arrogant egghead, subserviant menial with equal ease . What was even more fascinating he could switch from one mode to another in the same scene! You can always watch the old Sivaji movies(Bhim Singh, Shankar) if MRR is around. MRR would unabashedly play to the gallery and is it my imagination that -in spite of the poker face or sad face or the pained face that Sivaji would portray as the scene demanded - there was a twinkle in Sivaji's eye acknowledging MRR's effort - good shot buddy!

bb, The line "pachai kiLi-anaal" gets repeated after "thEreri...". If she had used "karandhEnum" again, then we should catch the kudumi of V-R only :-)))) Anyway, avangavanga kaadhula enna vuzhudhO, adhai eduthukkalaam :-)
hey bb, there is one transparent error in the lyrics (at least to me !!)... in the 2nd charanam. It is on "sedhi sollum yaarum thoodhu solla kaaNen". Should it not be "sedhi sollum yaarum thoodhu sella kaaNen"? This is not PS' error, but where we will go for Kannadasan's kumdumi? :-)))

It's Definitely "Parandhenum" and it's rendered as Parandhenum only
It's been aired several times in Radio's and TV's and it was never Karandhenum..
Hope the person who raised this alone heard this as Karandhenum or the Audio file is to be blamed!!

Good choice, bb.
National Pictures’s Raththa Kanneer- 1954 was produced by Perumal Mudaliar and directed by Krishnan-Panju. (the same producer- director(s) combination of Parasakthi).
Based on MRR’s drama, written by Thiruvarur Thangarasu, the film marked the grand re-entry of MRR in Tamil Cinema. In his earlier innings, he had acted in films like Rajasekaran-1937, Sandhanathevan- 1939, Sathyavani-1940 etc, and after few years of only drama appearances, Raththa Kanneer- the film brought him back into the cinema limelight.
MRR as the foreign-returned Mohan (‘kudikkaran—kaamugan--kushtathirkku aalaagum dushtan’—the publicity pamphlets described his role as such!) and MN Rajam as ‘daasi’ Kantha stole the show with their splendid performances. Incidentally, in among his last film appearances (Panchamirtham- 1978), MRR, again playing a wily villain, sits in his car after performing some particularly despicable act, and the car radio plays ‘Kutram purindhavan’—he promptly orders the driver to switch off the radio!). SSR and Sriranjini (as MRR’s wretched wife) were the sober foil to MRR & MNR.
Music was undoubtedly by CSJ. He had earlier composed music for a few films like Vijayakumari- 1950 (jointly with C.R.Subburaman), Krishna Vijayam-1950 (two songs) and Naam-1953. Raththa Kanneer remains his best album.
The songs were varied in mood and compositional pattern, and each one shows originality in thought and execution. T.V. Rathinam’s two songs ‘Aalai aalai paarkkiraar’ and ‘Maalaiyitta mannan yaaro, enna pero’ are scintillating breezy ditties. TS Bagavathi’s ‘Thatti parithaar en vaazhvai, sanjalam kolla vaithaare’ is a poignant essay of resigned grief. MLV’s classical ‘Kadhavai saaththadi’ (followed by the line ‘Kaiyil kaasilladhavan Kadavule aanaalum- kadhavai saaththadi!!) is a typical ‘daasi’ song, but dazzles in its complex compositional progressions. My favorite is Bharathidasan’s ‘Aalaiyin sange nee oodhaayo’ by MLV. The restless impatience of a young wife, waiting for her husband to return from work (a cotton mill in this case) has never been so endearingly portrayed. (‘Aalaiyin sange nee oodhaayo, mani anjaanappinnaalum, panjaalaaiyin sange nee oodhaayo!’) CSJ himself sang two other songs –‘Thannai arindhu’ (aadu paambe); and ‘Vaala vayathaagi azhagaagi’.
The SOTD was however, the most popular of them all. It was written by Ku.Sa. Krishnamoorthi. (It was taken from his drama ‘En Kaanikkai’)
CV- wasn’t Veli thaandiya Vellaadu by M.A.Khaja?

bb, if you have 'thanga pathakaththin mele ...' (TMS,PS) can you have it featured here sometime? I just love the creativity of MSV where he has used different sandham for third charaNam by PS for the pre-written lyrics(vaali) . One can sing the same sandham to the 3rd charaNam just as the first 2 by TMS. PS charaNam is a beauty where each line peps up with varying melody.
