On this very day, millions of ppl who watched chinna chinna aasai in DD's sirappu oliyum oliyum sighed in great relief. Freedom from IR atlast.
A month or 2 later IR gave an interview to DD in which he acted hysterical and made ppl wonder whether he has really gone mad. He also tried to write ARR off by commenting that hez a "oru pada adhisayam". ( ARR will never make such a comment about a fellow MD, in his life ).Now, we all know for sure, who had the last laugh.
IR had kept tamil music listeners in utter darkness for over two decades. Same old tunes with "thanana thanana" , "lalala lalala " and "tok tok" tabla in the background. As for BGMs, happiness means veena and sorrow means shenoy. Ask Pushpavanam Kuppusami about the number of folk songs that IR has directly lifted. And if he gets bored, he will turn to western classical music and symphonies for inspirations ( entha poovilum vaasam undu, chittu kuruvi, pootukkal pottaalum, Mouna Ragam Theme etc.. to cite a few. Visit I2FS site for more info ). Its very different from using commercially available bass loops or sound samples, FYI. And god only knows why IR is reluctant to release the so-called symphony which he did. And out of the 600 + films he did, not even 100 songs are worth a mention.
Now coming to the question of why IR fans are fanatics. Simple. When a person is kept in utter darkness for 20 odd years and suddenly exposed to light on one fine day, what will happen to him ?
The same thing is what IR fans are experiencing right now. They just cant take it. All these years they simply didnt realise that music has another dimension. And when ARR showed them that, by reflex action, they started criticizing him.
( "kaaitha maram kalladi padum " ). And the blessed ones who had already realised IRs " bad spell" were the ones who took to ARRs music like fish to water. As for the fanatics, let those ppl alone. Let them spend their lives in the darkness, which is good for them atleast, if not for us.
And i wanna take this opportunity to clarify one more thing regarding why ARRs music doesnt sound good when heard for the first time. ARR himself clarified this in an interview he gave to vikatan.
" When u like a song the first time around, it means that u had already heard a similar kind of tune before and that your mind can easily identify that pattern. Whereas in ARRs case, every composition of his is original and new, and naturally it takes time for that to sink in. Thatz why his tunes start growing on you ..."
Finally, in history we find visionaries with new ideas that are far ahead of their times, are initially denounced by their own clan. But ultimately they will leave their footprints in the sands of time. NO need to say ARR is one such great person.

I think its a question of generation gap.
My grandfather likes songs of IR, RD Burman etc and my generation likes AR Rahman, Harris Jayraj etc. WHy on earth do you wanna make comparisons across generations. This stupid IR v ARR comparison is like comparing DK Pattammal with KS Chitra. ;)))

Hey,
This is an absolutely atrocious thread ! Please make a note that TFM is unfortunately in a extremely confused state and every recent composer is really scratching their head to be different staring from you so called ARR to ....HJ
Understand one thing that it is a curse that composers like MSV,KVM have not got their due recognition (MSV in particular). It is a curse that these composers are born in India and are undergoing the fate of listening to current scrap & their reycled tunes. IR was altogether a different class who introduced a new harmony to INDIAN film music.
It is rather funny to read from your posting IR was duplicating his work "Same old tunes with "thanana thanana" , "lalala lalala " and "tok tok" tabla in the background. As for BGMs, happiness means veena and sorrow means shenoy. And if he gets bored, he will turn to western classical music and symphonies for inspirations ( entha poovilum vaasam undu, chittu kuruvi, pootukkal pottaalum, Mouna Ragam Theme etc.. to cite a few.
Mind one thing,IR had composed for 700 odd movies and duplication might be there. But how about ARR ????. Having done only some 30 to 40 movies how many songs of his have been recycled.Same old Key board backing be it a song or BG score and mechanised bass & ryhtm patterns. Where is the creativity ???He has still looooooooooooong way to go. We will see then !!!!!!.
First of all for heaven sake stop posting these stupid comparisons.

Just a small clarification here. Iam of great fan of MSV, KV, G.Ramanathan FYI ....
Nobody can infuse life into Barathiyar songs like G. Ramanathan did.
Nobody can match KV when it comes to carnatic based songs.
Nobody can give a blend of hindustani, light music and carnatic, like MSV did.
But i somehow dont find any of these in IR. He sounds monotonous and repetitive. Whatever he did in carnatic & hindustani were already achieved by his predecessors. He was found awfully short when it came to western. His music is too much inclined towards folk and that too not originals...
But , I see such rare brilliance of MSV, GR & KVM again in ARR. He is so talented that he is able to fuse all these qualities into one, and on top of that, western classical and pop music. Kannamoochi yenada is the best song based on carnatic. Kaale Mega song from Lagaan , based on Malhar Raag, is one of the best based on Hindustani. He has scored so many more like these. No need to mention anything about his prowess when it comes to western and light. The way he does all these effortlessly is what makes me look upon him with awe....

Oracle:
You seem to be a lone fighter here. I like your postings but some of your opinions about IR...I disagree.
Okay...let me ask others. Why do you people shout at only oracle and say that he doesn't know music or so. When people like the one crap from some "raja....member..." I don't get his name...writes some thing you people quitely shut up or praise it and say clap clap clap. Be a little consistant yaar. Who likes filthy words here. ? Some one has used all bad words in tamil against Oracle and no body seemed to have minded that, instead you ...so called level headed IR fans (in short..supposedly musically litrated people) shout at Oracle.
WhyNot...
why don't you advice others instead of Oracle. I too don't agree him when he says that IR gave nothing other that "tok...tok". I beleive that IR's BGM is the best ever in India. But, I am annoyed by those who clap their hands when some crook posts a crap about ARR or his fans. I don't see this happening the other way round often.
ARR fans don't put any thing on an exclusive IR forums. But, IR fans (many) spit in all exclusive ARR forums.
Stop this for God's sake. Make the thread a decent one.

The Oracle,
To know how many songs ARR Copied from other sources , OOOPS!!!!! I AM SORRY, GOT INSPIRED from other sources, visit, "COPYING in TFM" thread. U will definitely know the answer.
One more thing The Oracle, Even though I am a great admirer of IR, i never hesitate to praise good songs from other MDs. I haven't seen such a hardcore fan of ARR than u. U never listen or care about what others are saying. U keep on saying or writing what u think. If u open a thread based on comparision, please dont assume things of ur own. You may be ignorant of many things and may be this could be the right time to learn about them. Please dont think u r the only one guy in the entire world who knows about music and u r the only one who finds ARR as ur favourite. There r many and as well for IR too. If u want to be deaf of other things, it's ok. Carry on. Nobody can stop u. If u dont like IR for any reasons, whatsoever, keep it urself. Dont write unwarranted things about IR and his music. If u r not sure, then please be quiet and listen to others.
Common friend,
U urself told many didn't respond to the raaja music universe bla, bla guy. Yeah, becos, nobody wants to reply for his message. It's been ignored. Nobody cares about it. For The Oracle, we r responding, irrespective of whatever he says, in order to clarify the things. u wanna ignore this guy too?? We will do that!!! Dont u feel irritated whenever The Oracle repeats whatever he says, irrespective of what others say???

The Oracle,
U have perfectly justified this forum that you have started with your beautiful, dignified and reasonable comments. I appreciate you for keeping ur cool even when some idiots posted messages with bad words....You have proved us that u r a true arr fan...Keep it up!!!
Guys,
Please for heaven sake stop writing craps. Try to post a decent(no bad words), reasonable message. If you cannot digest the truths the arr fans are saying, just write whatever u want to say(craps!!!) and send it to urself in a mail. Please spare us. We don't wanna hear anything nasty. We arr fans have our brains full of holy arr's music, any brain with music sense will not think and talk bad...so from the bad postings from people like you i can understand how badly u people are corrupted by ir's music.
Ciao,
Good Heart.
P.S: Do not post in capital leters.
