Hi Karthik,
these 2 songs which are listed as inspiration pairs. I have some comments about them
Zindagi imtihaan leti hai | See the stars
1) The BoneyM masterpiece which is listed as "see the stars"..well the songs actual name is "still I am sad".
2) Its also not a Boneym original. They remixed from an oldie.
3) However this song is THE BEST song I have EVER heard in western music. There is no song better than this IMO. Any person would be captivated by this song.
4) The hindi song is not an inspiration/copy it does sound vaguely similar but its not
5) There is one song in amaravathi (ajith's first movie also sangavi's). The carbon xerox copy of still i am sad is in that movie. the MD is agathiyan??? (MD for Amaran & Sevalperipandi???)

Bharath:
Amaravathy had music by the ever-so-unlucky Bala Bharathy. I dont recollect any song based on the BoneyM number in question. Are you sure it is Amaravathy?
And that the BoneyM song is not their original is news to me. I managed to gather information about this song with great difficulty and finally found out that it belongs to an album called Oceans of Fantasy.
Just ransack your brains and let me know if by any vague chance you are referring to a different Ajith movie.

Karthik S,
The MD is adithyan ( i had a type earlier). I am very sure about that. The hero and herione wud be running and singing in some forest and river etc.. bad cinematography.
Can you give me adithyans list of movies!
I also recollect the interview adithyan gave where he talked something like the song was his original composition.
It irritated me so much that I hated him like anything. Infact I liked him as an MD before ( i have forgiven him off late :-) ). He was rumored to be my Eng mam's husband . But i never knew if it was true.
Anyway this is all nonsense trivia. I am surprised its not amaravathi. strange .... memory is so interpretive. This act of copy angered me so much that I was confident I registered the movie correctly!
//"I managed to gather information about this song with great difficulty"//
u shld have asked me :-) I worship this song and the ground (liz mitchell & bobby farell)boneym walk on.
They had a concert in madras the nite b4 my univ exam. I went still. I botched up in all the other subjects (badly) except that exam :-)

these are a (partial) list of adithyan movies. I cant find their songs anywhere
Amaran (debut), Nallaya Cheithi, David Uncle, Lucky Man, Minmini Poochigal, Thottil Kuzhandai, My India, Kootalee, Kalar Kanavugal, Parvai, Kizhakku Mugam, Chinna Pillai, Sivan, Seevalaperi Pandi, Kama.

I think you could find most of these film's songs in www.musicindiaonline.com
But I've heard almost most of the songs from these films...'cos at the period when these films were released I was in Tamil Nadu.
And no tune in tamil really strikes a bell to me...in that it sounds like the 'still I'm sad' number!!!!

Bharath,
aenga college senior(Baala Baarathy) meesik potta oru rendu padaththukkum avarukku credit tharalaena aeppadi? :-)
it is indeed by Balabarathy as told by suresh and karthik s. It has two good melodies. one, as suresh said, is thajmahaal thaevyillai aNNamae aNNamae and the other is puththam pudhu malarae aen aasai sollava. If u r sure about the film amaravathy (that which u claim to have the copy of boneym song) then i guess the song is tajmahaal thaevayillai.

Amaravathy had some incredible music for a new comer (barring the silly, 'adi sokku sundari')...I personally loved 'taj mahal thevai illai', 'udalenna uyirenna', 'putham puthu malare' and 'poo malarnthathu' from that movie. I really looked forward to BB as a composer for the future but he just vanished out of the scene but for a few non-descript movies which flopped very badly!
Back to Bharath...I'm sure there's a Adityan number that sounds like the Boney M song in question! Could somebody listen to the Boney M song from my site and guess the corresponding tamil song, please?

Karthik S,
Amaravathy was BalaBharathy's second movie - His debut was 'Thalaivaasal' which had atleast two wonderful songs, 'Adhikaalaik kaatRee nillu' and 'Unnaith thotta thendRal indRu ennaith thottu sonnathoru sethi',
This composer reminds me of IR very much - esp., his melody numbers and his use of violin in bgm., Very talented, but as you said, he vanished from TFM just like that !

Bala Barathy had entered thru TV serials like Neela-Maala, etc (very good title music and BGMs) in which Thalaivasal Vijay also got famous.
I read somewhere that IR had a chance to listen to one of Bala Barathy's recordings when he happened to pass by the studio.
There was an interview by Bala Barathy that he is an ardent fan of IR and his Tajmahal thevai illai song was inspired from Anandha Raagam (Panneer Pushpangal).

Bala Barathy was much better composer/musician than the ones mushrooming today in TFM! he had once told in an interview that he is a great fan of "Maestro Ilaiyaraja"!
Infact Maestro himself once commented that he has altleast seen one composer in his style with much importance to orchestrations when maestro happened to pass by the studio

for 2 days i contacted most of my friends and asked them about this. especially to those who i cribbed about this song when the movie was released.
everyone seems to recollect the similarity , especially after the heard the song in iespana but they cant remember the movie..
all they know is that its a stupid love story starring 2 new comers. i managed to get 2 people to confirm that it was adithyan and it was a duet in some lake-river-forest stereotype (there are a million of them)
arrrgh! i cannot get it.... i will give it a break for 2 days and then get back to it.
meanwhile karthik is there a place where i can get a list of all tamil movies released in chronological order in the 90's especially from 92 Aug-98Aug...something like IMDB.

Not exactly a song lift but here goes...
This is the gist of the brand new Matt Damon starrer 'Bourne Identity'...
"An Italian fishing boat fishes out the body of a man (Matt Damon), floating out at sea.
The body has two bullet holes in the back and a laser projector sewn into the hip. The projector, in infrared, displays the name of a Swiss bank and an account number.
The man awakes with no memory of who he is, of what happened to him, and why he was within a toucher of feeding the fishes. In a bid to find answers, he travels to Switzerland --- and to a series of surprises. He surprises himself when he effortlessly takes out two police officers trying to arrest him; he is surprised when, at the bank, he finds he owns a safety deposit locker that contain documents identifying him as Jason Bourne, passports and identities from several other countries, large amounts in varying currencies, and a gun.
Bourne empties the locker, dodges the local police by ducking into the American Embassy, finds himself surrounded and escapes via a display of wall-crawling that makes Spiderman look leaden-webbed."
If you are wondering why it sounds so much like the Kamal Hassan starrer Vetri Vizha and are planning to rejoice that for once Hollywood has lifted from Bollywood - Relax! Bourne Identity is based on a novel by Robert Ludlum that came out 22 years ago. A TV movie has also been made on the same story in 1988 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0094791)!
So we are back to square one!

KarthikS,
Vetri Vizha was based on bourne identity infact. Surprised! are you... there was a bourne movie released in American HBO network in 1980's which became a hit and was released in theatres.
Vetri vizha was a lift from that movie. Infact even b4 bourne (matt daemon) was released discussions were abuzz that this is the movie of the novel vetri vizha was lifted from.
kamal and sujatha have the knack of holding true the novel even when the english movie deviates from the novel.
moonraker is a good example :-)
but i have to say vetri vizha was a very good movie.
