Forwarded Message from SUN WORLD TV:
1st JAN 1999.
NAMASKARAM!!!
We are happy to inform you that we are making all arrangements to launch the channel as soon as the formalities are all tied up.
As they say 'The best things in life are worth waiting for'. So wait and watch out for SUNWORLDTV, The test signals are underway, We will be on air soon.
A lot of you have requested that we use the platforms used by Zee and Sony as you have these connection already or plan to take these connections.
Much as we understand your problems with regards to having to purchase an extra satellite dish, which would, not only mean extra costs but also extra space. We must inform you that the DirectTV network and Dish Network are not enthusiastic about starting another Indian channel.
They do not believe that the South Indian community is large enough to take up that kind of programming. They are reluctantly committing approximately 4 hours of programs for all the four languages, which is not sufficient at all.
Our plan is to start as a 24-hour channel for the four languages together first and then slowly move to having 24 hour programming for each language. To do this we need to get on a platform, which is open to such expansions.
The Japanese channel comes on a platform which does not have too many channels but the Japanese people in the USA have supported the platform and proved that what is important is not the platform but the program that they want to see.
We hope that the South Indians in the USA and Canada will also take the Japanese approach and look at the program and not the platform. We are in the process of striking a deal with 'Telstar' and we are also negotiating a good deal with the satellite dish agents to give us a good deal on the dish or absorb a part of the dish cost. With regards to the subscription fee we are looking at a upper point of US$ 19.99 per month.
We hope to keep updating you very regularly as we make progress on various activities.
Please do pass on information to all your friends who may be interested in subscribing to this channel as well.
Thank you once again for all your enthusiasm
Wishing all of you a Very Happy & Prosperous 1999

Kasthuri,
It is not easy to telecast world wide. The same satellite used for singapore cannot be used for US (both on the opposite sides on the earth).
This is the crude explanation I can give based on the discussion with many technically sound guys.

FRIENDS,
This is serious stuff. We should collectively take up issue with SUN TV trying to come into the U.S. 'again' through Dish Network. I have serious objection to this. After all we all subscribed to ATN only based on SUN WORLD's advertisement and invitation to subscribe to ATN to get 24 hours South Indian programming. Now. suddenly, SUN WORLD cannot tell us that it is our problem to get refunds/remedy from ATN and that, if we want SUN TV we have to subscribe to Dish Network. This is absolutely deplorable and unethical business practice.
As a customer, I do not care what kind of a relationship existed between SUN TV and ATN. All I know is I bought the satellite (TELSTAR) as SUN WORLD TV wanted me to and subscribed to ATN for the monthly programming. And I have received SUN, GEMINI, UDAYA and SURYA TV programs in the past. By allowing the transmission, SUN TV has IN CONDUCT ratified its agreement with ATN, and through ATN, with me the customer. Now suddenly it cannot leave me stranded. WE should definitely take this up with SUN WORLD TV, Dish Network, FCC, Better Business Bureau as required. Trust me, none of us will go bankrupt on this. But collectively we should send a message to these Indian businesses that the customers cannot be taken for a ride that easily in the U.S. Please, let us put our collective forces together. At least in the U.S the public organization and consumer interest groups work for the individual customer, unlike India where it is you against the entire corporation and nobody else tosupport you.
My request to potential Dish Network subscribers (for Sun World TV):
Please be sympathetic and sensitive to existing SUN TV customers by waiting to subscribe to SUN TV ONLY after they have satisfactorily taken
care of the existing customer base. It is very easy for you to say, "Well, I do not know the details/It is not my problem/ I am still going
to get SUN TV through Dish, so what do I care?" But please do the RIGHT thing rather than doing the EASY thing. We need your support too (by
your abstinence to subscribe) in winning this battle with SUN TV. Honestly, TV programs are not that critical to my life as well as the monetary exposure will not send my family to the streets. But the entire attitude of 'this Indian style' of business and trying to ignore ME the customer is making my blood boil.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
LET'S TALK ABOUT NEXT STEPS.

I agree with all you guys. It is time to do something. Does any of you know any person someway or other in DMK. Whether its CM/ Stalin/ Murasoli/Kalanidhi/Maran. How to reach them? I strongly believe any youth wing leader in DMK would be the best bet. Sending a mail/letter to any leader may not help. I have DISH Network with me already(I got that for the worldcup). I won't subscribe for sunworld through DISH. I have got telestar(300$ wasted). Anybody doing law? maybe a lawyer would help us to succeed in our efforts.

Also, send this url with all the complaints we have posted to any and all of your indian friends. Somehow they might forward it to their friends. Eventually let us get the indian community be aware of it. This way, any indians thinking of ordering sun tv will think twice about it. Let us ruin their business. Count me in your venture too.

Hai Guys,
I understand the position of all you guys.I am sorry about that. But on the other hand, I would have expected you guys to fo some investigation on the technology you were investing on.
1)TELSTAR is a JUNK system with 30" Dish, compared to modern DISHNETWORK or DIRECTTV which are just 18".
2) TELSTAR background on commercial broadcasting is very poor, though they help NASA to build some space stuff.
3) TELSTAR is not backed by any major US satelite program provides such as DIRECT TV or DISHNETWORK.
4) You can't invest on a old tech. system, just to get SUN TV and ATN. Compared to modern systems in which you can get both American and Indian channels.
Based upon all the above points, Please consider striking a good deal with SUN World TV, such us Year worth programming free of cost and stay happy. One of my close friend who bought, TELSTAR because of Sun TV is now suffering the same problem as you guys. He did consulted some GREAT ATTORNEYS who initially were pretty much enthusiastic, but later refused to take up the case, since no paper evidence frm ATN/SUN TV.
So, please consider nogotiating a good deal from from SUN TV and welcome to DISH NETWORK.

Mahesh - Thanks for rubbing salt into our wounds - we feel much relieved now.
Question to the rest - I have the 30" dish with me now. I havent had a chance to talk with the ATN guys - Can somebody tell me what they are saying? Are they asking us to get an 18" dish and if I subscribed for 1 year's programming, would that be refunded? And when is Dish Network going to start beaming Sun TV? Is that a done deal?

Hi:
I am with you guys, I think its SunTV's responsibility to satisfy there customer, we should take it up seriously. They can start with Dishnetwork but I think they should not disconnect from ATN since its affecting there existing customers.
And of all there is no direct contact to SunTV...
Has anyone talked with SUNTV directly???, if so can you pass there phone number.

hello people
the best way to get suntv respond is to make this a news back at home. am sure there would be a few magazines or newspapers willing to make a story out of it. you should contact them and make sure this cheating act gets publicised in india, coz its there where they have a reputation to defend, not here at u.s.
