hi everybody,
i would like to add 2 more songs orchestrated/composed by KR where IR was MD.
1. Hey vanchikodi vandhathadi (ponnumani)
2. velakku vaipom (athma).
These are really wonderful pieces. one more thing, it is a known fact that the BGM in 'sirai chalai' was much acclaimed for IR's work but a considerable portion of BGM was done by KR.

but why did KR sound so different when he started composing on his own? i expected songs like the above from him. yeh vanjikodi is a fantastic, peppy song set in mohanam. but his songs (after he became a composer) somehow did not make any impact on me.

GUYS I THINK THE TOPIC FOR THIS THREAD SHOULD HAVE BEEN "LET YOUR IMAGINATIONS ROLL" , COME ON GUYS YOU WANT TO ADD ALL OUT GREAT IR'S WORK HAS KR's , GO AHEAD AND ADD "ANNAKILLI","NENJATHAI KILLATHE SONGS" TOO WHAT IS WRONG, DON'T TRY TO DEMERIT IR FOR ALL HIS EXCELLANT WORK

KR did a good job in 'Manickam' and 'Ullasam'. I somehow didn't like his songs in 'Kaadhalaa... Kaadhalaa'. Barring 'kasu mela kasu vandhu' song, which was an excellent dappangkuthu, others were very ordinary songs. But, KR is definitely a better than Deva and Sirpi and is on the same line as Vidyasagar. I don't think he is being suppressed. He is composing music for some films, one starring Kusbhu and the other starring Prabhu. Talent can't be suppressed for a long time. Take the case of maestro IR. So many people deserted him. But now all of them are coming back.

Vijay,
I agree with you bashing Sirpi, but I dont think deva is that bad. Even vidyasagar is known to flick songs, and he is not even as profilic as deva.
BTW, yes KR is a talented MD, his song
nadiyoram vesum in the film alexander, is one
of my all time fav. song.
I think, his choice of movies are not good, and his father is not helping him either. I am still amused, why KR, being son of the great IR accepted films like manikkam and alexander to launch his carerr, same true for YSR in aravindan. Even his grahan, first hindi film, is still a non-starter.
I think, the whole IR clan desperetely need a good marketing team to guide them. :-))))

e.hari,
i do not know if vidyasaagar copies or not. so far i have also not seen anyone here posting claims that VS has copied. and to the best of my knowledge he has not copied blatantly his hit songs, like what deva does. prolificity as regards deva's music is nothing i tell u , nothing. if u want songs of deva's standards, i can compose more tunes than what deva does and believe me, i can give u all original and better tunes. VS has given original and fresh music in his recent films. deva's hits have all been copies. he is bringing a bad work ethic into TFM and is setting a bad example to youngsters. plainly speaking, he lives by looting, which is not healthy for TFM. i want to stop here and not convert this into another deva bashing thread!! but i enjoy bashing him anytime (:-))

iam also thinking of sending a mail to ravi, asking him to make the 'deva bashing' thread a permanent one. it would serve as a good relaxation spot and tension reliever whenever things get hot in TFMDF (:-))

When I met KR in August, he told me he had no Tamizh films at hand, but he had one Mallu and one Hindi film.
And yes, he does take part in IR's compositions. I had gone for the recording of a song from Kadhal Kavithai. He composed the beats. IR had assigned him to record(not compose) the chords but he made subtle changes all the time.
Also, he is a really sincere worker. On the day I went,
while IR took a lunch break for about an hour, KR never bothered about food - he asked someone to get a sandwich and ate it while continuing to play what he was asked to.

Vijay,
VidyAsAgar has indeed copied good amount of songs (mutham thara Etha idam etc)but what i feel is that he took to copying just to make sure that his songs are hits. If u see his recent films, u won't find any copied stuff.
I heard his mallu numbers are far better than his tamil ones.

vijay,
I am also big fan VS music, if you have read it in other threads. I dont want to jump into comparing, who is better, who is not. I agree that deva's biggest hits are copied songs, but he is also giving lot of good melodious, and original numbers. My argument is, if deva is bashed for copying, Vidya sagar is also not behind. Deva is the only one giving some consistent hits for last few years. anyhow this is thread about KR, and let it be that way.
BTW, Why no one commented about KR's choice of projects?. IMO, that is the biggest cause for his current situation.

Karthik Raja fans, rejoice!
He is scoring the music for a film (probably in Hindi) by one Nithyen (He was an apprentice scriptwriter for Tarantino's Pulp Fiction).
It is supposed to be an experimental film, shot entirely in a Bombay brothel, where every scene will be rehearsed thoroughly and then filmed in ONE SHOT, without any cuts!!!!
He is reportedly fascinated by KR's style of working and the amazing level of creativity in his compositions.

Kayenn is his name (short for Nilyesh K Narayan) and he worked on the Pulp Fiction script as an associate to scriptwriter Roger Avery. He is planning his dream project, a film set in the aftermath of 1947. He is also doing a quickie experimental film based on a play who’s name he hasn’t revealed at the moment. It is apparently set in the red light district of Mumbai’s Grant Road and he will be shooting it live with a 7-camera setup in a soundproof studio. It’s a first of its kind, with no retakes (though they are going to have a 3-week rehearsal). It will have no dubbing and just a background score by Karthik Raja.
This news item appeared in Times of India last week.

Basically the time is not favourable for Raja's family. If a man is in good mood he can do wonders. When he is upset even his sincere effort will go waste. That is what happening now. Atleast some three successive movies should become successfull. Then nobody can stop him.

Hi guys,
To be frank with you all, this thread didn't get as much as response than from a Deva or ARR bashing thread.
I am surpirsed to see that people are not bothered abbout loosing a promising young musician.
KR's evergreen meloides like
malaoyaora veesum ...Movie-ALexander
Saravan Bhava.... Movie-Kadhala Kadhala
Veesum kattrukku... Movie--Ullaasam
I hate to see such talent going down the drains.I am really surprised to see Deva, and other new MD's sprouting up while this kid is not being touched by the producers.
I feel this downfall might be of 2 reasons
1. KR is sacrificing for his dad's sake--as now he is indulged in conducting music for IR's movies like KK, thodarum etc.He is trying to get his IR back to the top.
2. There might be cinema politics--Producers who hate IR doesn't want KR either.

Balaji,
I agree with you. These new talents (especially the ones that keep a low-profile) are completely ignored by our film makers. This guy composed an immensely listenable, 'complete album' in Ullasam; I mean, all the songs were great. He followed it up with a great score in Hindi. Most of his songs from the Hindi film Grahan were fresh and novel. Amitabh Bachhan, who is supposed to have been greatly impressed by this talented guy, got him to score for a number marking his debut as a singer at the Miss World show.
Alas, AB himself is going through a bad phase now, what with his company ABCL almost on the verge of going bankrupt! He wanted to promote KR in a big way, well... bad luck. Nothing of that sort materialized.
What are our 'whiz kid' directors like Mani Rathnam and Shankar doing? Playing it safe, I guess, by roping in ARR movie after movie (Note that he is a saleable guy in the North too).
KR's Hindi album Grahan when released more than a year ago, did evoke a good response, but couldn't sustain its initial euphoria, cos the movie hasn't been released yet. The promos were taken off air and Jackie Shroff, the producer, I believe is going through a bad phase too!!!
Here's wishing Karthik Raja all LUCK!

Neels,
iam not a fan of ARR. but i don't think mani or shankar is playing safe by having ARR in their films. when ARR is able to deliver hits for them, why should they unnecessarily ditch him? he has always been in their good books.
also KR is yet to give a big hit to prove himself. his music has been good in patches. he is yet to give a master album like what ARR did with roja, thiruda thiruda etc. also KR is trying to compromise on melody and sounding ARRish in most of his songs. he has to emphasize on
melody in his songs like his father IR.

Balaji,
You are insulting Raja big time, by stating
that KR is trying to get Raja to the top, by
conducting Raja's scores..
Also, if it's true that KR has not got too many
movies because IR is not popular among producers,
then IR himself shouldn't be doing many movies.
The fact is IR IS doing quite a few movies..
