Hi all,
I just surfed thro' the net and happened to see the profile of PS. She was heralded as the "Lata Mangeshkar" of TFM. Does she deserve that crown more than SJ and Chithra?

PS and SJ have been singing in TF for almost equal number of years considering that PS hardly sings any more. But the number of memorable solos rendered by PS seems to outnumber the solos of SJ by a huge margin. VJ's career lasted less than 15 years but every one of her solos is unforgettable. Chitra has been around for 15 years and the number of memorable solos are very few.

TFM-in icaik kuyil kunjcu is sujAthA. given due respect (= chances) she will (easily) outdo ksc and might come very close to janaki in versatility and overall ability to bring out emotions. ksc fans, aTikka varAtIngka :-))))

Mr Hihi,
Kindly explain what you mean by kuyil kunjcu? And her outdoing KSC (and just how does one singer outdo another?)is a nice illusion, and her coming close to Janaki in versatility and emotions is a bigger joke. Even with my craze for Chithra's voice, I have always accepted that when it comes to singing a song soulfully, no one has done so like SJ(Eg, thEnnurum raagam naan paadum nEram). Not even PS is close. Chithra herself stated "Every pitch in Janakiamma's singing has a different emotion." Sujatha is, undeniably, a good singer. Of the singers that got a break in the 90's, I would probably pick her as the most pleasing. But I don't think that she can sing emotionally. As far as versatility is concerned, that can only come forth if the MD gives them songs such as. As far as SJ is concerned, IR was always biased. He used her a lot for that. So there is no question as to her having a lead there. We would never no unless the other singers were given the same opportunity.
And now would you people please stop dragging KSC's voice into this maliciously. My respects for the authorities of this site prevents me from going to the levels of making unfavourable remarks. But it seems to me like there has been some sort of purposeful baiting going on for the last couple of days.
All in light heartedness:-).
Later friends.

Who mentioned that title "chinnakuyil" first? Some magazine?

I don't remember aruvi, but I remember Kumudham's review of `Poove poochchooda vA', eulogising the `chinnakkuyil' song telling sth like, `at last..after a long, long time, a good song in TFM'!

In the 150th show of Sapthaswarangal, Chithra comes as the judge. The show is pretty good. Check it out. She spoke better tamil then I expected. It was a pleasant suprise on my part. If you have Windows media player then check out a little of it at www.ravivaranasi.com . Click on swapthaswarangal on tamil section.

Aruvi,
I also watched the "sapthaswarangal "programme where Chithra came as judge. The show was very good. She also rendered few lines from her national award numbers," Paadariye Padippariye"
and "Manamadhurai".

aruvi,
kuyil kunjcu means a baby kuyil. sujAthA is yet to get her due respect (in terms of chances to sing) and hence i called her a baby kunjcu. citrA (KSC) is an average singer who sometimes gives an awesome performance, imo. i have started hating the song itazil katai ezutum nEramitu (unnAl muTiyum tampi) mainly for the way KSC kills the song (horrible mispronunciations and a soulless performance). the more i listen to her semi-classical songs in malayALam the more i consider her an average singer.
never felt that way with sujAthA.
(oops! this posting belongs in the other thread comparing ksc and sujAthA. who cares :-)) )

I listened to the song Kanaamoochi enada. I can hardly hear the words. Is it the lack of energy in Chitra's voice. Nice lines, nice tune. Could have been performed better. Many a times Chitra doesn't seem to give all she has got. Or should I simply blame the dominance of the instruments.

Arulji,
In any case, your 'IMO' is correct:-)
I have no intentions of saying anything further.
Neels,
The song you mentioned got good reviews. Even on the radio here it got a special mention for the singing talents of KJY and KSC.

Eden, you are not far from the truth on your guess. To be truthful, the only thing that makes India appeal to me is Chithraji's voice. There was a time when I couldn't have pointed the country out on a map:-). (Controversial statement, true to my nature?):-))
She became 'Chithraji' after I heard AV Ramanan call her that.

listen to "Yedhedho...." from Punnagai Mannan. This song is simply

Mr.aruLarakan
You have made a statement that Chithra is an average singer . You must have remebered that you are making this comment about a great artist who has sung around 15000 songs at least over a period of last 16 years(which includes languages -Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali,Telugu and Oriya) and who has, to her credit, number of great achievements including 5 National Awards and other various prestegeous awards.Perhaps, She is the only singer who has been recognised by all four southern states as the best female play back singer. She won the Kerala State Government award
for best female play back singer in Malayalam films for 10 years in succession continuously.Even this year, she has aleady secured three awards in malayalam,namely,Asianetaward,mathrubhoomi-medimix award and the state govt.award. Recognitions have always gone in search of Chithra.
Please note that an achievement of above nature do not get secured by an average singer. Chithra is one of the best singers our country has seen. You may have your own liking towards any other specific artist; but for that reason, please don't make a casual statement like this and try to malalign and underproject the talents of a great artist, who has not only so many credentials, but also the recognition of millions of music lovers.
It is a requirement that musicians need to be professional. Similarly, it is also necessary that
music lovers should be professional. So , as music lovers, I feel, we should try to retain professionalism while registering our comments, with due respect for the achievements and credentials of the artists.

First, I thought your 'form' was wierd. Now, by saying Chitra is an 'average' singer, your 'content' is also becoming questionable. Unless, your population for calculating the 'average' is an exclusive set consisting of {SJ, PS,Lata, Asha,Sujatha,KSC}. (neenga Ph.D ppaa! oru thani level la iruppeenga:-)
BTW, don't you think you should be writing SujAthA's name as "cujAtA"? (appaa! there is hope for me too!!!)

hi a.g.kutty,
:-))). i will come back after the alai Oynjcufyies :-)) (i mean, at my side). btw, my name is not pronounced with a 'k', it is pronounced with an 's'.
rAjAji,
it should be cucAtA and not cujAtA :-))) (just kidding :-) )
btw, my sample size is a huge chunk of the thousands of songs ksc has sung. i can quote a lot of examples, but, hey subjective things should never be discussed :-))) (where is rAj, the objective man ?) also, as you mentioned my statement is in relation to the exclusive club you have mentioned. (you know what is ph.d? piling it higher and deeper :-)) )
