The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:
Do you remember the 'vizhiyil vizhundhu' (alaigal oyvadhillai) song?

Folks, please share any such stories, anecdotes and tit-bits that
you know, in this thread. If TFM Group thinks it is sufficiently
interesting, they could even place it in Permanent Topics.

Talking about Sivamani : He and Charan were with me when they had come down to Houston (Texas, US) with SPB for a concert about two years back. Sivamani was an interesting-eccentric character. Apart from playing drums his mimicry talent is also exemplary. His (younger) brother, who had come down to Houston with P.Susheela troupe, is a carbon copy of Sivamani (imitating MGR, kudumi, composing music etc...)
Both these characters were really hilarious and entertaining...

Heard on Sun TV that These films are called as "Dancing Maharajah 1/2/3" and so on .It seems so that the people are captivated by Rajni's style ,his songs and his fights. It seems that Muthu,Padayappa,Arunachalam are all geared up for release in Japan .

I am not sure how many of you know/remember "Paari Venkat". He was part of S.V.Shekar troupe and acted in many of his recent dramas (He acted as the "M.L.A aRivu" in 'thaththu pillai' drama) He acted in the movie 'kannethire thonrinaal' as a pettai rowdy, who explains somebody on how to reach 'maNi koondu', while taking him a tour of the whole Madras city (vaayaal voodu kattiye). After that movie, he has been acting in quite a few movies as one of Vijay/Ajit 's friend pattaalam.
I heard from my friend that he died in a (thiruvalluvar) bus accident two weeks back while returning from a film shooting. After the accident since nobody claimed his body, his body was buried by the police as anadha ponam. Since he was missing for a few days, S.V.Shekar (with push from Karunaanidhi) searched for him with the help of the TN police and finally digged the body out and handed it over to 'parry venkat's' wife. Venkat was an upcoming comedian, who had the look of Nagesh and had a good acting/mimicry talent.

On one of my meetings with ARR, we were talking about old days, he was saying how he and Sivamani used to be in different bands, do one programme and then change style e.t.c.
Seelan and I brought up the topic of Puunagai Mannan, where ARR did some Compuer work for IR. He mentioned one thing that quite upset me, IR had said to him "Unna maadhiri aakalukku Computer thaan laayaku, nee adhoda munneramaatai!!!!!". I felt that this was quite a condescending comment, as ARR was a kid at the time.
The other thing is that, his big-headed-ness had somewhat brought his downfall, ARR's albums sell the most, IR is Number 2 now(Source Kumudam or Ananda V). He has reached No 2, but they mentioned that it's because of the number of albums released, ARR releases much less.

All i can see is a contemplating element of advice that should have transformed into a driving force in ARR mind which could have made him successful thus far. There is a saying ' kuttu pattaalum mOthira viralla kuttu padanum', for ARR 'thittu vaangunalum athu IR kitta vaangnum..'
Regarding the no.1 position, neither IR nor ARR is obsessed with becoming a no.1 by petty some cassette sales figures, they both have proved their identiry in TFM by their unique approach in composing. You are so close to ARR and so you have your mighty observations, and mine are just intuitive feelings;-))

Is IR selling no 2. now? That's quite surprising news as his albums are difficult even to locate in many shops. I thought these SAR,Deva guys have overtaken him long back! (probably people still buy his earlier albums in good quantities)

My guide in M.Sc who was a pure maths fanatic said the same to em when I showed more enthu for computers...very nearly the same words. And I never bore a grudge against him for that...his POV was that he felt I could do well in maths and why should I go and fall for the computer fad. I wouldnt call that condescending. He had every right to expect me to toe his line and I had every right to choose not to. To fault or be judgemental about either of us is not clever...in my opinion.

Was touched by yr posting abt ARR. I wish IR was more prudent in encouraging talents and giving recognition to people when they deserve. What made me say this is the fact that you can see a lot of artistes being credited for thier performances in ARR movie songs like Sivamani, etc etc. but IR has hardly advertised the presence of other musicians except for a select few who are sort of dependent (or should I say aligned?) with him. Just imagine how nice it would have been if IR had encouraged ARR and helped him rise. Surely we would all have benefitted from that. And That could have been the end to all this ARR - IR wars in this forum. I pity IR for his wrong prediction.
