I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Neel D,
I hope you get good questions for the interview. I am counting on some interesting ones from Saravanan, Priya, Kaumudi, Kik, AVR, Balaji, - and many other genuine VJ rasigars. Let's hope they email you their questions soon - with name/city/country. (optional).
This has got to be a collective celebration of VJ = so let's make it a success with your probing questions!

s0, I will find out about this search agent and see if I can add one.
Kaumudi, I am working on some of the songs you have asked. I will upload them within a week or so.
Priya, welcome back. Deiveega Kalai is from Thodi Ragam. Nalini's dance and Kunnakkudi's music. Unfortunately I do not have either of the songs you have asked. But I can offer another Bharathanatyam song (from a film).
Naaz, I have no details about Thaayanban. So many talented artistes have disappeared without a trace. I am still collecting questions for the interview.

Neel:
Thanks for uploading "kalaimagaL kai veeNai muzangudhamma". I have been listening to this song N times since yesterday. Who is the composer? That song is a unique and masterful composition. Moreover the transition from the Indian to the Western is smooth and doesnt seem the least bit contrived (or "put in for the heck of it"). One of the early fusion songs, perhaps.
I was listening to Gaanamanjari. I noticed just one small thing about Indira Namamu. I downloaded the mp3 version from your site. But much earlier I had heard the same song (in Vani's voice) from the Bhajan Sudha album on the website of the Ramakrishna Math, Audio section. The latter is a live concert version.
http://www.sriramakrishnamath.org/Audio/91003-1-11-IndiraNama.ram
I liked this particular version better. For she seems somehow more at ease in this one. Moreover the tune has been made slower, and therefore it somehow really lingers and lingers and lingers in my mind. And here she sounds magical while singing "achyuth namamu anantha namamu ichchina sampada lendariki". And thats followed by a truly astounding moment. The last syllable ("ki") of that line is sung in a long-winded and stretched out manner. What *A* rendition!! I think this is some kind of an improvisation for which Vani Jairam herself is to be credited? In any case, it hasn't been uncommon for great singers to have added their own enhancements to already excellent tunes by MDs, adding lustre to their perfect sheen.

Neel D: Can you post the questions collected so far? It would be nice to know what the list looks like and may spark additional thoughts/discussion.
It's been a while since I listened to kalaimagaL kai veeNai, but didn't PS do something similar in nilavu vanthu paadumO, silai ezhunthu aadumO (MSV, I think). It would be great if anyone who's heard both can compare the similarities and differences of these 2 great singers' treatments. I recall that there is an old song -rock rock rock n' roll which alternates with a carnatic song (singers were different I think Chandrabu and someone else in the 50s? And, dasarathanin thirumaganai - SJ & Malyasia Vaasu?).
Haven't checked Neel D's site or Naaz's tapes - hope to this weekend.

I heard this one from your site.

Talk of goosepimples when you hear the high-pitched and powerful lines at the end - the last line being repeated thrice, each one a bit higher than the previous one.

Thanks for that link of bhajan sudha song. Lovely! I agree that that improvisation was very good. She probably could have done a couple more of such feats throughout the song. Also, singing the song in a slower pace makes it more loveable, I guess. It allows sufficient time to register the song in the minds properly. Somehow I don't seem to be getting enough of that indirA nAmamu song even after listening to it atleast once a day. I simply like it when she gets to sing those really high-pitched notes (if interested, listen to "Aanathineeyara" from "Swathikiranam") and hold them for a little while, wow! that completely makes me feel like bowing to her talents.
Also, thanks for the links for the telugu songs. I actually have both (and all those I mentioned previously) the movie audio tapes/CDs with me. I just couldn't see such a good site being incomplete in the telugu section, especially because Vani had sung so so many good songs with KVM, MSV and IR in telugu. Since Neel already mentioned in the beginning of this thread that he is not fully aware of her songs in telugu, I thought it would be nice to mention a few more of her songs (atleast the famous ones) to add to the list, which would satisfy the telugu music lovers visiting this site. And Neel is already working on it, I should really thank him for the wonderful job he is doing.

"Sangeetham Paada" from Idhu Namma Aalu is a competition song between VJ(carnatic) and SPB(western).

Nilave Unnai Azhaithaen....Neel, I hadn't heard that song in more than a decade! Thanks for the song - and bucketloads of nostalgia with it!
The Hindi version of that song from Marumagal (Ley Tho Aaye Ho Hame Sapno Ke Gaon Mein - Film: Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye) is by Hemlata. Marumagal was by CB or SG?
Kaumudi - In one of your earlier posts you'd mentioned that VJ has songs in the film Sagara Sangamam...(Salangai Oli in Tamizh). Does she really? I would be glad for more information on this as my searches have produced the movie but no song by VJ! Please post a link if you have one.

Naaz
VJ has not sung any song in Sagara sangamam. All the songs in SS are by Janaki and SPSailaja and of course SPB. I don't remember saying VJ has sung a song in that movie, but if I did, then that was a mistake and I stand corrected. Sorry ,Naaz, for any hopes that I may have raised.

No hopes raised, so no hopes dashed :-)
I have the Sagara Sangamam Album and it doesn't have any VJ song on it. But I just thought, as sometimes is the case, a few tracks make the film and don't make the audio soundtrack. The songs from the film are good though, one of brighter jewels in IRs crown.
Siri Vennela had some good songs by VJ/SPB.

Confirmation:
Sruthilayalu = Isaikku Oru Koyil
Don't know where that whole Siri Vennela confusion came from. VJ didn't have any songs in that one, I don't think. Sorry for the mix-up

"Sruthilayalu = Isaikku Oru Koyil"----this is news to me, I never knew sruthilayalu was dubbed into thamizh. Good to know. Actually, the title is more apt in thamizh than in telugu.
Reconfirmation: VJ has no songs in Sirivennela, unfortunately (or should I say surprisingly considering the music was by KVM). Some lovely, haunting and mind blowing numbers by SPB, PS, KVM and Hariprasad Chaurasia combo make Sirivennela a memorable album.
Small digression
Sagara sangamam has some amazing bgms in it. One that sticks in my mind and always feel my hair raising when I think about it is the scene when Jayaprada shows Kamal the program schedule for that year's National Festival for dance and music and Kamal finds his picture in it. Oh, my God, to this day, I enjoy that bgm with all my heart. This always happens to me when reminded of Sagara sangamam.
End of digression

I believe there is a nice song by SPB , VJ in Isaikku oru koil.
It goes
"Endrume nalla rasi, inba thirumagal raasi....."
All the "rasi" s figure in that memorable sung.
As usual both SPB and VJ combination at their best

AVR, the live version of Indira Naamamu is magical. Thanks for posting it. I used to have an old tape of one of VJ's live concert recording. I cant seem to find it now. If I find it I will bring it to everyone.
kik, if the senders wished they can post the questions here. I am not sure if it is appropriate of me to post the questions collected through email.
Naaz, Marumagal is by Chandrabose. There is a third female solo in the movie that was not sung by VJ (my big aathangam).

Do you have "Sorgaththile Mudivanadhu" from Lalitha?
What happened to Pulanguzhal Mozhi...not gone with the wind, I hope.
En Payere Enakku Marandhu Pona...from Oru Indhiya Kanavu would be nice too.
No matter, just keep adding!!
