One way to appreciate a finished product is to see how it is made. This thread is a good place to see how music evolves. The review/criticisms in this thread are a good learning place (for eg. Aditya's review of comment's music). It is too simplistic to think that the work of amateur composers is not related to TFM. Who knows one of these guys will probably be doing TFM in future.

Thanks Arul, Admin and Kiru for supporting the existence of this thread.
Arul, I was already working on this particular theme. I have two versions
- WCM way - very simple string arrangement.

In case you have any problem accessing this one, goto http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/vijayaditya?c&.flabel=fld7&.src=bc
listen to "String Melody" Song
- ICM way - this is set in Natakuranji Raagam.
I think the bass guitar was not balanced to my satisfaction. There are some slow string runs.

Give your opinion - And I get inspired to compose in various other styles.

Hi Friends:
I have come up with a folkish pop style of music for waking up senses:-)) I am sure you will find this music is very familiar but somewhat different may be:-)) But this was a good exercise though.

Guys:
7 to 5 has Brilliant Start with the Guitar phrases panned to the right side - Beautiful Sax on the left side...Sax seems to represent the body gestures while the guitar brings the feel of the mind. Give a try...Srikanth might confirm that's how he depicted this music. Sax is very well used in context. More follows...
Overall a nice try from Srikanth - ofcourse with a PRO feel.

Aditya

Srikanth:
Phrases on CELLO are melodious which comes towards the end. After a short break, at the beginning, the SAX on left side and Guitar on right side - coordinated the body and mind coordinations... I thoroughly enjoyed your music. BTW, there's a lot of sophistication overall.

Aditya

the first few notes of sax (at 00:24) reminded me of the start(prelude) of "oru kili uruguthu urimayil pazhaguthu"..
its nice..Kenny G type piece!! great comment!!!
and BTW, whose photo is that on that page? ;-)

Nice work! You have improved so much with time. and of course your style of playing couldnt be more unique!
Heres my sincere comment! (please excuse my being very critical):
1. Sax "answers" need to be subdued. More reverb, echo etc., can be added. I am a little confused what the melody is and to what in response does the sax answer to. I understand your style there. I would say borrow some notes and durations from the melody, and harmonize with melody is a common thing u can do.
2. You have made the sax the lead instrument. But all through this piece, I am not sure what is your lead instrument is? Is it the guitar? or the sax? Sax sounds more like an accompaniment than the one which plays the melody. So where is it - is the first thing that comes to my mind. If you wanted to say this with a guitar I would want to "hear" it prominently.
3. Drumming is really done well with a lot of feel. Well done!
4. You made good efforts into getting the spirit of "7 to 5" into the music. I can see that u made some changes inbeteween to make your point. Good job.
Overall a nice improvement!
5. Phrasing, and partwise melody could be done even better. I think you can do that.

aditya, thanks man, good observation
swamiji, thanks for the comments,
, there is nothing called as lead melody in this score, this form of music is called 'point in time' score. I am sure you should have heard about it.
for the benefit of others, I will explain what is point in time or "pit"
Each music segment will be like each para in a poem describing or talking about some subject.
Like the slow sax lead denotes waking up, i have used little bit extra delay to show the mood, following guitar denotes going with a fresh approach to work, I have indicated work-break with a major scale progression, finally to show the returning home mood I have used strings, if you see the end it is somewhat like sleeping happens suddenly.
btw; dont worry about being critical you are doing your job, :)
vijay, thats a pic of a musician whom you know :),

sridhar,
nice the start goes with vasanthi feel, like you play dha note, sounds good.
pause in the score was very impressive, then followed by some nice "pizzicato" string work.......nice change overs, harp follows the song very well. Way to go..
I was not able to download complete song.

Music Folks,
If it is an instrumental score, please do not give explanation on the different events attached to the score. Please let the listener use his imagination. May be, his interpretation is different. That is alright. That is the greatest strength of instrumental score. Unlike lyrics based music, where the context is restricted by the lyrics, an instrumental music can bring in different emotions to the listener that the composer did not plan for.
For e.g, I might call the score Persistence. Your emotions might fit it to a different situation.
This is my opinion.

Comment:
Brilliant mood creation with the Piano arpeggio, Guitar and Sax.
0:48: The guitar finishes with a bang on E twice. The second bang has the harmonic notes added. It is not natural to play on the guitar that way. Both times with harmonic notes might sound better.
0:49: Take off is brilliant. Rhythm arrangement sets the mood very well.
2:07 - Chord progression is great. Em minor, G minor? Transitions are smooth.
2:55 - Chord progression to shift E major scale is awesome. (Em, Gm, A, E?)
3:45: - Captures very well the home coming. I would have preferred a different instrument (instead of the solo violin).
4:26: - E sus. I was very surprised to hear that.
Looks like an 'E' scale celebration.
Great composition.
Keep it up.

I have used RJAY's mridangam fonts...
Also there's a JAZZ piano clipping there...
And I am waiting for your opinions on my other compositions posted earlier - thought it's not worth to listen;-)
