Ali:
As I and many others have mentioned before in other threads, north indians who don't have any knowledge of south indian languages or music cannot possibly understand the greatness of SPB. Sorry that all you 'blah blah blah' statements went for a waste. Bcos that you wanted to compare Rafi and SPB, let me ask you this.. SPB has sung in almost 6 languages equally well that includes Hindi. What do you say about Rafi in that aspect? How many languages did Rafi sing fluently? In terms of number of songs, how do possibly compare this Great guinness record holder with Rafi...
Of course SPB mentioned that Rafi is his faviourite singer.. but he also has mentioned several times that KJY and jayachandran are also his favourites.. that only shows that he is not only a great singer but also a great humble human being who has no ego..
Notice that the topic is 'SPB is the greatest singer that India has ever produced' on the whole.. If you want, you can say that 'Rafi is the greatest singer that north-india has ever produced' -- that I can probably agree. okay my friend?
btw, that was a nice story about SPB's sister and Rafi.. you really thought people would buy that, didn't you?

very true, Aryans have always turned a blind eye on dravidians.
X;
I agree with u, "rafi is the greatest singer that hindi had ever produced", but "SPB IS the greatest singer that India had ever produced".
no arguments plzzzzzzzz

I knew i would get replies like this from the majority of the people here because
once again they are misundrstanding my statements. Let me make some points clear :
SPB's sister mentioned in an interview about wanting to marry Rafi. If you don't want to
believe me or you don't have any value for her words then why don't you go and ask her yourself.
It seems to me you don't want to accept that she has such high regard for Rafi more than her brother
who you claim is the "greatest".
For your information, many artists and Swami made the point that expressing in Hindi is harder than in South Indian
languages and NOT ME. They all know both hindi/urdu and SI languages well. So if you don't want to believe them than it's fine with me, no problem.
SPB must be great in expression of South Indian songs, but how come when he sings in Hindi critics and artists
have mentioned that it's not as great as his SI songs. These are experts at both hindi/urdu and SI languages. So if they
also say emoting in hindi/urdu is harder than in SI languages and if they again say SPB does not have the capacity to express as freely
in hindi/urdu as he does in SI languages, then why don't you take this point into consideration. Just shying away and making
statements based on nothing and not musical knowledge of experts is not worth it.
I once again mention that these are views coming from experts and NOT ME. It's better I relate to expert opinions than to my own personal
opinions.
SPB's second language all through school was Hindi and he was a hindi film music buff so I don't think he should have any problem with the
language. I disagree that SPB has an accent in Hindi songs.
>>>SPB has sung in almost 6 languages equally well that includes Hindi. What do you say about Rafi in that aspect? How many languages did Rafi sing fluently?
Rafi has excelled in quite a few languages fluently such as bengali, marathi, punjabi, gujrati, orissa and many many more including english and dutch.
>>>In terms of number of songs, how do possibly compare this Great guinness record holder with Rafi...
SPB could only pass Rafi after the death of Rafi. If Rafi hadn't passed away so suddenly Rafi would have been leading in the amount of songs sung at this point
because in the year 1979 he was the only one to have sung more than 30, 000 songs.
Ofcourse SPB has mentioned that he has other favourites but he has always mentioned that Rafi is the greatest of all his favorites. There's a difference you know.
>>>if they could comprehend TTK, SPB's reputation would have skyrocketed several times over.
So you are saying if they could comprehend these languages and hear the expression his repuatation would have skyrocketed. I don't think so because they would also be
knowing Hindi/Urdu and if they compare the two forms they would see a difference in his songs in both forms. And if the experts claim that expressing in Hindi is harder
than in SI languages than there is a trivial point. If Rafi was so excellent in expressing in Hindi/Urdu then imagine how he would have expressed in SI languages. And mind you
Rafi was not exposed to SI languages as much as SPB has been exposed to Hindi as it was his second language throughout his school.
You know what, there is no point in arguing more because it doesn't make sense to argue. Just please read Swami's analysis which i will link for you the you can judge for yourselves and
know what I'm talking about OK.

which has been the longest fight on newtfmpage so far - whether SPB Is greater than everyone else, or IRR vs AR? :-) Lets open a thread on that and fight about that. Then after some time we shall have three options as to which was the longest thread -
1) whether SPB was the greatest
2)AR vs IRR
3)whther "spb was greatest" was the "greatest" thread or IRR vs AR was the "greatest".
Sorry for this PJ :-)

Ali, swami might be a very good music expert and you might be a great fan of him.... but when it comes to judging music, ur ears & mind are the ones that should judge the greatness.. Swami is human as well and has his own likes and dislikes..... a lot of elderly ppl (who are not in this forum) might even argue that TMS is the best singer India ever produced.... Rafi had a big fan base as his songs were heard throughout India, whereas SPB's was restricted to South india.. SPB's songs were branded as south indian hindi by northies , which was why it was not widely accepted.... look at the numerous hindi singers literally murdering the south indian songs.. Lata , who has been considered the greatest by swami had two songs in tamil which are not even worth mentioning.... considering these greats, SPB definitely was better in getting adapted to other languages...

The arguments by Mr. Ali carry some weight.
Again and again, he is asking the likes of Raghu to hear more songs by Rafi. Why don't they do it and return with something constructive?
As for Mr. Ali I would like to suggest him to listen to the song "Devi neeye...", rendered by S.P. BaalaSubramaniam. It is a good song available at dhool.com. It should found by putting up the search with the word "devi."

We have a proverb in telugu whose translation goes "Even a king can be defeated somehow, but no one can defeat the adamant" - this is so apt for the scenario described. If Raghu doesn't want to accept that the title of this thread is not a universally accepted fact, then no matter who reasons with him, they will definitely fail in their purpose.
