the concert was superb. no words to desribe. it was absolutely world class. really great to see a jam packed audience listening to this wonderful musical experience. really pity the venue could hold only 40,000 people. they should have held this at Chepauk or somewhere else. It would still have been houseful. anyway congrats to everyone behind the show.

Its true. Many friends of mine went to the concert and saw the capacity only half filled. And all the time, ARR was protraying himslef like a GOD or Michael Jackson. He was doing solo acts like that of MJ. And he's trying to deperately wanting fame with his hairdo. It was very embarrasing to see him stooping so low for fame and attention. All these seems like it is very obvious especially when all his music was nothing to talk abt nor cherish in the last few years including his abysmal Udhaya.

One thing puzzles me..why wasnt the concert held at the MAC stadium Chennai at affordable rates?? Shelling out 1000Rs to get a seat was ghastly I wonder how many families would have shelled out 3-4K for an evening! Unless you are in IT and make potfuls of money, you'd hesitate to invest in a family outing. Wonder how many middle class families went together..would tea shop/bakery/saloon owners taken up the chance to see SPB/SJ/KSC live in concert?
Now dont come up with the 'high price for noble cause argument'...the Aug 8 1999 star cricket match for Kargil heroes had nominal rates and yet had the cash registers ringing.

Good point..The ticket price would be set at low if the artists are doing for free ( did they?) leaving out the stage decor and other aspects..

Prabhu..
true, having it at Chepauk wud ahve accommodated more ppl at a lesser cost.
But then accoustics come into play. Even the stage was designed having the accoustics in mind.. I personally dont think it's possible for all those instruments to be fit in w/o a stage (not forgetting all those wallpaper kinda setting w/ lights on stage.. did u know the background kept changing according to the song?!). And w/ a stage, ppl wudnt want to sit gazing at the back of the stage wud they??!
besides as Mani himself put it, the trees around CPT acted as a natural buffer.. the sound clarity was much better! The place was also cool(as in cold).
Besides w/ all those props and imported fireworx, it must have been a costly affair.
and believe me, the 1000 Rs & 3000 Rs enclosures were the most packed!!

Thanks for the AV article. I wanted to paste that.
In that it clearly states that the crowd was over filled. It was more than 40K. Imagine tickets price as high as 5000 bugs and just as low as 750 bugs...if it could draw a crowd of 4000 odd poople then it is a grand success....
lets see whether some one else could even draw 400 peopl for his esteemed orchestra concert.
NOM to the person though...just wanted to irk my beloved opposite camp.

As mentioned earlier in one of the posts, can someone write what songs Janaki and Chithra have sung in the Chennai concert?
- From: magix (@ 219.65.108.28)
on: Wed Feb 26 23:40:25 EST 2003
Chithra:
Veerapandi Kotaiyile
malargale
anjali anjali
SJ:
margazhi thingal alava
ottagatha (the 2 songs were kinda fused 1 leadin to another)
nenjinile
these were the songs they sang... I guess that was the 1st time Chita sang after she gave birth to a baby girl.

Chennai ARR Orchestra!
----------------------
50% of the crowd comes to see Lata and SPB. and Sivamani.
Some for Janaki and Chithra.
Valee and Vairamuthy attract some percentage.
Likes of Karthik and Srinivas too attract some audience.
No doubt, ARR himself has his own attraction, however small it may be.
Some have come to see Mani Rathnam.
I do not know how many other stars were there! Was there Harihran too?
Hats off ARR! What a brilliant Marketing Man you are!

Why missed the Fourth violinist in the II row ?Actually the entire crowd came to see him...not SPB ,Lata etc.
We have had Peter Druckers in TFM who have managed to arrange grand celebrations for the success of their UN-released (never-going-to-be relaesed work as well!)work!....that s what is i call marketing coup!

Thanks so much. I heard someone tell me that Chithra also sang Kannalane. Actually, I am surprised that I didn't find it in the list. In any case, I hope you enjoyed the show, presuming you attended it (how can magix not attend ARR show???).
