  O_IS_G, the original of that song was in L-P's first venture, 'Parasmani'. The tamil version could have the same name.

  Pal Vannam is a surprise by MSV-TKR.Using PBS for MGR
  
  They used him for 'neeyo naano yaar nilave' in mannadhi mannan. Paal vannam should be PBS's second song for MGR

  PBS's first song (as far as I've heard) is
  "Vanitha Maniye" - It is a masterpiece.
  
  I also think "Nilave Ennidam" is a class of its own - Of course almost all of PBS songs are good.

  Music Director for Ponni ThirunaaL is Pugazhaendhi. He was the assistant to KVM(Translator for KVM too) . This was one of the few films he composed alone.

  Pal, Ramki thanks. I can recall another PBS-PS song for Pugazhendi, 'veesu thendralE veesu'. One of my other favourite PBS-PS numbers by MSV, 'anbu manam kanintha pinnE achcham thEvayA' from 'ALukkoru veedu'.

  In my cassette containing Gemini's hits there is a song that goes
  "odivathu pol idai irukkum... irukkattumey.."
  
  Great song by PBS. Interludes and tune sounded a little different from those times. Anyone know who composed it?

  "thesulavadhe" also featured in Hindi as "kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya" rendered very well by Rafi and Lata with all the brighas, MD is of course Adi narayan Rao(I am not sure which version was remade, the tamil or the hindi one), the song is in Hamsanandhi

  PBS's first song was in 'Jaathagam' in 1951. This movie was made in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu and I guess he sang in all these simultaneous releases.

  He sang for Vidyasagar in 'Poomanam'. I think the starts with 'Sila neram..'. I guess in 'Naalaiya Sethi', he sang for Adithyan. Don't remember the song.

  Another nice song in that collection (It is by HMV) is
  
  thendral urangiya pothum thingal urangiya pothum kangal urangiduma kathal kangal urangiduma, kathal kangal urangiduma...
  
  Gemini Ganesan always had that goody-goody look (vayila verala vacha kadika theriyatha look) that probably made all women of that time fall in love with him. PBS's voice suited Gemini perfectly.

  u might be right. I am not 100% sure if "thendral urangiya..." is by PBS.
  
  Was it in a gemini movie though?
  
  The Gemini cassette I am talking about was released by HMV and it has gemini talking a few lines at the beginning of each side. Very interesting to hear him speak.

  Vijay, the song was first made in Telugu, then Tamil and lastly, Hindi. IMO, the rendition was not all that great in Hindi.

  parasmani (hindi) = maayamani (tamil). There's another PBS-PS duet that goes ondril ondru ullam ondriya pin, itharkenna pERu seithEn naan (chori chori jo tumse mile to log kya kahenge - Mukesh/Lata).
  
  PBS's first song is supposed to be in hindi - if I remember right he moved to Madras about '50 and then may be the first tamil song is in jaathagam (what song?)
  
  Another obscure song I recall is from mahiraavanan (tamil dubbing of the hindi Hanuman Paataal Vijay; mus SN Tripathi): engum raagavan iruppaane. Very nice song at the end of the movie.

  I too firmly believe that "ennaruge" must be a MSV-TKR composition than SMS.You will get the same feel as that of "netru varai nee yaro".
  
  Same is the case with "azhagiya mithali" which will have the same pattern like "Madura nagrail tamil sangam".(credited to SMS)
  
  MSV-TKR rarely used PBS/AMR for MGR .(1960 onwards).That is why i had mentioned that "Pal vannam "was a rare song.Can anyone find out songs by other singers (other than TMS) for MGR from 1960 to 1972?
  I can recollect just four and all by SPB
  1.vetri meethu vetri vanthu
  2.aval oru navarasa
  3.Aayiram Nilave
  4.Padum pothu naan thendral katru
  
  Sivaji had AMR,CSJ,TL,SG,VN Sundaram,SPB during those 12 years.

  "koondhalilE ney thadavi..." was sung by KJY.
  
  KJY used to close his stage shows (light music) with his own version of "maadi mElE maadi keTTI (viswanathan vElai vENdum...)", but there is no official recording of that version available.

  'koonthalilE nei thadavi' was composed by M.G. Radhakrishnan, M.G. Sreekumar's father.
  I can recall one PBS number for Sivaji 'endrum thunbamillai', composed by T.Chalapathi Rao.
