ARR was a trend setter..All the other music directors other than IR did nothing new!! They are just following the footsteps of IR and ARR..ARR need not waste his time on films that are cheap and he is concentrating on better films in Hindi..It is quite funny when u ppl say HJ,YSR are better than the great ARR..ARR has gone into the history books..The other music directors will be forgotten!!Even during the time,when IR was at this peak, MDs like Shankar ganesh and Chandrabose were hyped so much to be the best..But look at them now..they are no where to be seen..IR and ARR are the only music directors whom the tfm industry will remember in the next 25 years and more!!ARR is GOD!!

so u mean that IR doesnt have any image or past glory? .. something that even a nonIR fan like me would disagree with!
see...if a producer is going to pay some1 based on his past glory and all then MSV,IR would be the most expensive MDs.....athu enna service period poruthu every year kodukkara increment-a enna? ... the MD needs to be IN the field if hes still getting payed high.....in a period where producers like GV are committing suicide anybody would think twice before investing the huge sums

Goto INOX theatre and take a coffee for Rs.40(the price of a cow!) during the intermission. It's no better than the Rs.4 coffee on the roadside.
The difference in price is due to hype and the other settings

BMW is expensive loosu.. i noe that.. but so as IR. he is not cheap toyota corrola. but arr is not a ferari. he is a duplicate ferrari. ITs like u malasian ppl selling duplicate things, saying its the original from japan, which is not japan but malasia. bodho!!

Slightly on serious note> Every mag after GV suicide, talks about cost reduction etc etc. Most of them point fingers at Actors & Financiers. How about semi MDs like ARR. The way he comes up with crap after craps still charging as above Crores, TFM will be in more trouble.
ARR a trend setting in charging crores. In simbu charges two crores doesn't mean it is because of his acting.! Same is true

Paran bodho.. manka loosu.. u compared the salary of arr and ir. same applies to cars. ferrie more than $300,000. BMW more than $50,000. There is a huge difference. still bmw is expensive and thats y i told IR is like BMW.. onaku mandaikula saraku iurka?? no one will buy immitation, we all noe that. I din say arr is immitation. he is duplicate.. Presently i am not sure who is the best as quality of music is varies every year for the music directors.
To me Illayaraja will be the best. He got his own style and doesn't not want to change them to present trend and melody.
Illayaraja had given varieties of tunes and they are unforgetable for life long. I can call him genious in music. I would list out few things which Illayaraja has proved himself:
1. For continous 20 years he is the only top musician for Tamil cinema
2. In 60's & 70's, many Tamilians prefer to listen Hindi songs as the Tamil songs has not given satisafction. Illayaraja is the one who change the trend and his music diverted to listen Tamil songs.
3. He is the only music director who had scored more than 30 films per year.
4. Although he score music for many movies per year, the quality has not declined. 90% of the movie songs will be super hit. If there is 5 songs in a movie, all the songs will be fantastic. That is really amazing!
5. He takes little time to score music for a movie. You all know that Prabu's Chinna Thambi was super duper hit and the main reason was Illayaraja's song. Do you all know how long did he took to make tune for the music. It is just 30 minutes. Wow!
6. There are some average movies were Super Duper Hit becuase of Illayaraja songs. I can name few such as Thendrale Enai Thodu, Amman Kovil Kizhkale, Karakatakaran, etc.
7. He is the only music director to have cut-outs in theaters for his films.
8. He proved himself for Hey Ram retuning of filmed song.
and many more!
I don't think other music directors has achieved the above.

I wish to counter a few points.
1. The 20 yrs ended w/ 1992!
2. ARR went a step further. He made Hindi folx listen to tamil songs!!
5. Do u mean a single song or the whole album?!?!
