at the same time I like many ARR's songs but i feel they are monotonous.... further ARR is yet to make a mark in Rerecording .....hopefully he'll mature...

Sorry Arun,
There are resemblence to the same extend by which you compare ARR musics. OK Azhagan came a year before that film. I just didn't mention which film came first because I wanted to see you people's reaction. When, it comes to IR you ask such questions and ask an authentic proof. I would suggest that if we apply the same parameter for other MDs also then it would be nice.
Regarding IR - Iam his fan too (not fanatic...really). But, I have listened, may be few hundreds of his. But even in that I could find the sort of resemblence with other songs (of course .. not many) as IR fans use to find from the songs of other MD. I have listened to several of tamil folk songs (from old DD and current DD) and I keep listening to them frequently as I live in a village near chennai. Now, many of the songs have come in films (I have given few ex. in this forum) and mostly from IR (U know.. IR is a genius in folk songs)
What, I am trying to say is such inspirations or lifts as you people call them happens in diffrent level.
Nothing wrong in it as long as you show your originality in most part of the songs like BGM and instrument handling.
Tell me how many film did IR use the same tabla beat, that even I could play so easily. This (i don't know to write music as U know..but I am sure you are getting the beat) tabla beat, I think came from the day the tabla originated. Do you mean to say that IR has copied the beat? That is how it is with other music notes also. What might seem to you as a lift might be a usual note that any body playing that istru might play.

Sk, please understand one thing, as far as the beat is concerned....
before that i would like to tell u that i play mirudhangam from the age of 4......
I think I can say few words abt those instruments
Further so far Ive played Tabla, Dolak, Drums, Electronic Pads , Tripple Drums also called as bangos....
These are called aas percussion instruments and in tamil we call them as pakka vaadhiyam which means it is a support for the original track........
I clearly understand which beat u r talking abt..... if i am right u r talking abt beats that come in Nan thedum sevvandhi poo idhu......
Ok, as far as the beat is concerned u can easily see that the whole song will be accompanied my the same pattern.except for the BGMs where there will be change in instrument........
Even in ARR songs.....
Enai Kanavillaiyae netrodu.....
Poo Pookum Osai.....
There are lot of songs that have this kind of beat which is called as raggae.....
I never complained abt them coz that was the best to accompany a song....
Even the mirudhangam beats that ARR uses is same like that he used in Nila kaygiradhu, Mettu podu from duet, en veetu thotathil poovellam from gentle man.....
So i never called them a copy or repetition.....
as far as the beat that accompanies the song is concerned it is fine... there are very few patterns to follow.....
Please understand one more thing in my experience so far I ve never seen any MDs giving varities in beat like IR......
I'll give atleast 20 songs with totally different pattern soon.....
ARR mixes a lot of tracks to the original beat till the final version is released and that's y u see them very complicated and different.....

Arun, i did not say you fought.., take it easy,
now coming to the subject,
are you talking about reggae ?
china china asai , mustafa mustfa are reggae's,
akila akila is a flicked reggae.
reggae is a Carribean /jamaican style of music,
it is a blend between native jamaican music along with rock and soul form of music.
Main feature of reggae is the swing and
a tempo with an accent on the offbeats.
you can hear this in mustafa or china china asai,
try to get hold of bob marly cd and he has done tons of reggae or check this site for more reggae
http://www.reggaesource.com/
now tell me how
kadhal kavidhaigal padithidum neram, keladi kanmani kadhalan sangadhi are reggage...
this is a std 4/4 beat, I call it as std IR beat .
more songs on std beat of ir,
"oh ore thendral" from pudumai pen,
manadil uridhi vendum from the movie manadil uridhi vendum, nane nana yaro thana

Sorry, something totally off tangent.
This is for Arun (@ 205.188.199.56)
Arun, I saw that you mentioned you play mirudangam from age 4. That reminds me of one of my classmates who was a expert mridangam player while in school. I forgot his full name, but it was Arun something.
Have you ever studied in Coimbatore?
Just curious!

Arun,
Thanx for your explanation. I am a mucic love and have a little bit of raaga knowledge. I cannot sing or write but can identify some raagas. Your posting has given me good inf.
Now, I am not mentioning the tabla beat alone. It was just an example. A layman's query. I just posted that, because when people talk about ARR and say that this beat is repeated or it has been used else where by some other.
What I wanted to know is isn't that other MDs also do the same thing.
They get away because, we don't care about that and I am 100% sure that when IR composes, we only listen to the tune, which are new ofcourse, and care about the beat or other thing later by which time the song would have already sunk in us and we usually forget the issue and simply enjoy the song.

SK,
IR will not highlight the beats, even if he is using something novel. His focus seems to be on melody. But so far I have observed that the the percentage of tabla beat which is the same 'looks' high mainly because of the number of songs he has done. He has tried many permuation/combination of percussion instruments (drums/tabla/mridhangam etc). These sounds did not come out very well because of the recording. Moreover he thAlam is a very sophisticated thingy in Indian music. One of my friends used to explain how L Sub uses 'thAlak kattugaL' in his playing. IR is also a master in this craft.
If you are really interested get a good full-range speaker or a Subwoofer, turn up the bass and listen for the percussion in IR' songs. You'll be surprised. You'll hear the bayan (bass of tabla), the clear distinction between mridhangam/tabla, kick drums etc. You'll be suprised how good a percussion instrument tabla is (they call it the king of percussion instruments).

MR. Comment,
I never said Kaadhal Kavidhaigal padithidum neram as raggae..........
U please read the posting again. Probably I had messed up with punctuations.
I added those songs to ur other list saying Illaya Nila, sangeetha megam........
Please comment, I thnk Iam not soooooo bad in music to say that those songs are of raggae especially when ive played so many raggae songs ........ excuse me for that!!!!

Kiru is very right about his comments!!!
Please hear these songs....
Pottu vaitha oru vatta nila,
Ohm namaha,
thaka thom thalam from some murali's movie,
Isaaiyil thodangu dhamma,
these songs are in the thaalam called
mistra chappu thalam............
Its very complicated to create tunes in this timing.......
I ve never heard any other song from any other MD so far.
If anybody can find songs with that beat please let me know.......
