Wonderful writeup the above!
This is where composers like Enigma and Deep Forest stand up! While people in this Df think it is very cool to asume a following for WCM and composers like Mozart and Beethoven, they fail to acknowledge how people like Michael Cretu, Michel Sanchez etc have worked hard to conceptualise bizzare sounds(sometimes even cacophony) to integrate into their music to form a harmonic whole that would sound sweet at the tme of its initial conception only to the creator!
One such creator who "knows" how his different elements interact and how they will furnish themselves in the final output is ARR.
In the case of KKS, rationality and conventional rigidity would have dictated any composer to have just felt saisfied with a song like 'Theekuruvil'. However the genius that ARR is tries to go a step further and his mind already "hears" the final ouput with the off-tempo "yedho maa" and is confident to convince the director that such a seemly anomaly would do nothing but to serve as a treat to fans who look out for "diference" in music.
I worship this genius ARR for his godly effort KKS!

Thanks for the unsupressed recognition MIL
Thanks V..
As much as my "Unsurpressed recognition". It will be always a pinch in my heart, when IR does not get this!! I will live with it..
But i am surely happy for ARR!!

Corrections - Enigma and Deep Forest are not composers. They travel , collect folk songs and mix with digital effects. They haven't composed single song as of yet.

loooong time since there has been a good discussion.
I second Pennathur when he says that ultimately "good" songs and melodies reach people. "Chinna chinna aasai" would have sounded as sweet & heralded a sensation even without the embellishing sounds that were added. That is exactly how I feel about the "sounds" that you speak of - as embellishments, decorations. a contrasting example would be Viju Shah (MD for Gupt), whose "sounds" didn't take him very far.
a strong melody will always be appreciated

There is a small area of debate here as to whether Deep Forest and Enigma are composers are not.
First of all, I think you are confusing Enigma with Deep Forest. Enigma works only with synthesized sounds that have been perfected and experimented in Cretu's studio.
Deep Forest on the other hand is the group that collects folk samples and gets singers of hese folk songs to sing for them in their France studio. They later add effects to it. However this I would contest only forms 30% of their music. I agree that their musical style is based on folk of the world, but dont you know Michel Sanchez plays the accordion and he has composed some patches which were also played by him in The Japan concert?
Boeheme and Comparso had a lot of accordion ad synths that were "composed" purely without any relation to folk. So I would be shocked if you stil contend Dep Forest and Enigma are not composers.

V,
I listened to ' ennuyir thozhiye' few times after your right up. I am sorry to say that it is not impressive. It comes nowhere close to 'thenmerku paruvakatru' from Karuthamma by the very same ARR.
In fact, I listened to 'onna vida' from Virumandi, and I felt that it sounded much more like the ARR of the 90's. ARR seems to have lost the feel of his glorious 90's.
Sorry for the digression.

I like boheme. My favourite one is that prisoner song which is titled freedom folk. You can here small cry in that song... which touches your heart That one is one of the most beautiful song I ever heard.
You know the original song was composed and sung by some prisoner on death row.. and their most famous Sweet lullby is by pygmie mother.
Go on to deep forest website or google search and you can see the original artist or singer behind their work.
here is one example ..

You tamilians are one of luckiest people to have IR and ARR. I don't understand a bit about tamil but I am glued to KKS , PM and now Sandiyar.
I pity people in my group where I live as they really are missing so much good music.

I am sorry you did not like Ennuyir Thozhiye as much.
It s basically a clash of taste. You are probaby not looking for what I am looking for in ARR's music. Thats it.
I heard Virumaandi only twice. I was not that impressed. OR may I say that KKS is keeping me occupied as to not give sufficient attention to Virumaandi yet?
I will go back and listen more and comment on that in the virumaandi thread
