I would like the veracity of the following copies made by ARR to be checked, as I heard these from my friend.
1. Baba Theme Music From Al Capone By The Untouchables
2. Muthu: Thillana Thillana From Night Bird By Deep Forest
3. Thaalam / Taal: Beat Of Passion From Thaalam With Devil On Turkish Highway By Al Di Meola and Steve Vai
4. Jeans: Anbe Anbe Kollathae From Of These Hope By Peter Gabrial
5. Karuthamma : Then Merkku Paruva Kaatru From Om We Rembwe Ike By Dr. Alban
- The last 2 are truly shocking as I like them for their original tune value (???)

Mythila,
I can say with confirmation
2. Muthu starting piece is copied ditto from Night Bird.
4. Jeans beat is copied straight off
1.Baba theme is interesting, it has striking similarity to the Death theme in the same movie. Others can please verify.
Anyone can verify at www.amazon.com song samples by searching for appropriate atrist. Tfm admin can give link to these copies if needed. However I do think that the tunes are very much original, but hesitate to ratify going by these copies.

Mythila,
Except the Baba theme music no other song you have listed has a tune lift. Most of them are either preludes or interludes, which are available also as commercially available samples.

No offence - but 3,4 and 5 on that list ARE NOT SAMPLES. Stop deluding yourself.

Karthik,
What is this thing about commercially available loops? Did not someone go to the trouble of creating those loops ? Just because they are commercially available does not mean that a guy who is labeled creative genius can happily lift stuff from there. He can be inspired that's acceptable.
By the way isn't every movie album/pop album commercially available. May be that explains why ARR had lifted from other popular albums (eg. ace of base, dangerous). ARR is admired for creating new sound, but what happens to his fans when they discover that his sound is not his own?

Mythila, #4 is not a sample..ARR seems to have used the same rhythm loop as in that song. Note, ARR claims he is into POP/World Music. Peter Gabriel is considered the father of World Music - which seeks to promote music from other countries in the west, done in the POP format. Peter Gabriel owns a studio/recording company which promotes artistes from other countries.
I have seen ARR use the rhythm/rhythm arrangements from other songs from west as is/with modifications in his songs (apart from the use of samples). The tunes are almost always his.

Just because one person who doesn't agree to the above doesn't mean anything. For all you know you could be offending him as he could be another arr hardcore.
I mean if majority can agree to the above and only one person disagrees without proof or justification then isn't it obvious. So what if this guy has a website.

ATTENTION Karthik S,
1) the intial 10-15 sec music in the song " I'll Remember" by Madonna
2) The interlude in the middle of the song " thaneerai kathilikkum " from Mr.Romeo. (in the video prabhu deva wud be danding on a big tabla during this piece)
i think 1 & 2 look very similar in just this interlude.
can you compare and let know

listen to the songs:
1) neela chaela katti vandha samudhira poNNu FROM thiruviLayaadal (and)
2) thaeru paarkka vandhirukkum chiththirappaeNNae FROM ???
The former is by KVM and later by MSV-(TKR)??
the chandams in both songs are very identical atleast in the pallavi (though at the end the pallavi seems to deviate in both).
experts please verify whether this claim holds good.

That "sa re ga ma" bit in that new Boyz song : direct lift from Eminem..dammit...forget the name of the song...the one that got tons of radioplay last year....

The eminem song is "the world is empty without me". Sure its a straight lift. But a good album IMO.

Are you talking about the Blaaze rap in 'Dating' song ? And is that the 'Without Me' by Eminem feat. Dr.Dre ?

Oh yeah...I got it. The Lucky Ali number 'Secrets of Success'. The saregama bit resembles the Eminem 'Without Me...'.
And the start of the same song should be a C&P job from DCH's 'Koi Kahe Kehtha Rahe...'

Here is one more ARR's inspirations. This is quite disappointing for me as I happen to love the song. The song is "pudhu vellai mazhai" from Roja inspired(/lifted whatever) from Yanni's Reflections of Passion (1990), the track is "quiet man". "Quiet man" is available as midi file on many site. Here is the clip from the CD from Amazon.com.

Jag, sorry to disappoint you yaar. Yaani's song came out in 1997, and Roja in 1992. Anyway, still keeping with the glorious newtfmpage tradition, we can still say that ARR copied Yanni's "yet to be composed" song in 1992 itself. Hope you are happy now. Dont leave any stick to beat ARR. Keep it up.
From Karthik's i2fs :
A really interesting find! Yanni's track, 'Quiet Man', from his album 'In the mirror' has a particular crescendo part which sounds suspiciously similar to a crescendo part in A R Rahman's Roja song 'Pudhu vellai mazhai' ('yeh haseen vaadiyaan')!!! And here's the clincher - Roja was released in 1992 while Yanni's album came out in 1997 - a full 5 years after Roja! And, it happens to be Yanni's original track, not a cover version of a older track to claim that both of them lifted it from one common source. Listen to the tracks and decide - for your listening comfort, I've also posted the relevant portions from each track which sounds similar apart from 2 minute sound clips from the beginning!

I think Jag may be right here. I could be mistaken about the date of release of Yanni's album. I had done a fair amount of search at that point, but it looks like the seacrh was incomplete.

Dear daddy
You haven't even checked the link I have posted in the first place. I have already sent mail to Karthik regarding the correction. I am well aware of this "coincidence".
First goto the following link and read the editorial review. I have posted it just in case you ignore it, at least other people will read it (this is "In the mirror" you are talking about).
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000000MD/qid=1056595585/sr=1-17/ref=sr_1_17/002-2431465-5268030?v=glance&s=music
" Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
In 1997, when Yanni switched to a new record company, his old label rushed to release not one, not two, but three compilations of his old recordings, basically trying to capitalize on his popularity as hastily as it could. No doubt some fans purchased one, two, or all three not realizing they were buying repackaged older works. This is one of those recordings, and it's a decent assortment of Yanni's early-'90s works. It includes the first five tracks from In My Time, six selections from Dare to Dream, one track each from his *first four albums* and a live, more palatable rendition of the uniquely annoying "Aria." Basically, it's an acceptable sampler of quieter Yanni material with some moments of power and punch tossed in for spice. --Terry Wood "
In other words "Quiet man" is actually from "Reflections of Passion " released in 1990 *much* before Roja (I am reposting the link here):
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000000JS/qid=1056595549/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/002-2431465-5268030?v=glance&s=music
It was only added in "In the mirror" by the new record company. Check the facts. I don't care if you don't believe it, it is still a copy. I myself am disappointed. You can deny it and forget it. But if you are true fan of ARR you will verify this.
( I am sure ARR must have some visions --sorry audios-visuals-- of the future and made his music. Enjoy.)
Jag
ps: Even Jag's dad has a name, and he is a living person, but you had to get personal. Why? Did ARR pay you to do this kind of thing?
