i was listening to 'mella mella ennai thottu' from vaazhkai and that inspired me to start this topic. more often than not the tempo of a song is determined by the start the song is given. in the above song raja brilliantly combines a violin with percussion to set the rhythm .
iam looking for songs that have a brilliant starting piece which sets the flow for the song.
examples can include raakamma, shubalekha(telugu), etc. the songs need not be fast paced. for example 'poove sempoove' has a melodious but a good start, IMO. looking forward to u'r contributions.

Udhaya,
Which film is "adadaa idhuthaan sugamo" from?
And 'Kodai Kaala Kaatre'?
Is there a site where RA versions of these songs and Nenjathai Killade are available?
My NK casette has gone phut and I miss the numbers!
Thanks

Do also check out 'oh oh etthanai kanavukal paruvathin thottathiley' from "Athey Kangal"('67?). The intro is jazz infused & lasts ab 2 mins bf the lyrics start. On screen the pic with Ravichandran & Kanchana was BRILL!!! Do hunt it down. You won't be dissapointed.

Raju:
When I saw the movie Adhe Kangal last year on video (My uncle insisted I dis), I was really impressed with the variety of songs the movie offered. The film too was glossy, and the music was apt. especially the song you mentioned and another one (a happy new year kind of song, I think) had some real good western influenced pieces.
When I checked the credits later, I was surprised to find the name Veda as the MD. If I'm not mistaken, he's the one who 'brought' lots of Hindi hits by Lata to TFM's Susheela. (Naina Barse... Naane Varuven; Khilte Hain Gul Yahan... Raadhayin Nenjame etc.)

What about the latest IR offering,Isaiyil thodanguthamma in 'Hey Ram'? The opening beat is awesome and beautifully complimented by the folksy/pleasing/catchy oove, oove ho and this builds up the perfect setting for Ajay Chakraborthy to ease into the song with that haunting voice of his.
