Nandini,
I guess you have heard only VM's songs. Without having enough knowledge about the past you have written a long story.
Below are the list of other excellent poets that were present during Kannadasan's regime (1948-1981).
1. Kothamangalam Subbu
2. Papanasam Sivan
3. Kavi Ka.Mu.Sherif
4. Maayavanaathan
5. Vaali
6. Maruthakaasi
7. Aalankudi Somu
8. Suratha
9. Panju Arunachalam
10. Pulamaipithan
11. Naa. Kamarasan
Each of the above have written some excellent songs that VM cannot even dream of. However, Kannadasan was the most sought after poet because of his versatility. Until his death he ruled like a king. Every music director, director, actor has/had extreme respect to Kannadasan's talent, that includes his co-poets including VM.
Only Kannadasan can beat Kannadasan. Not the mortals like VM.

The disadvantage VM has is, his crap songs are getting overly scrutinized because he is here now. But, KD kaalaththu crap songs have been forgotten by us and we don't tend to look at them. On the other hand, some of Vaali's great songs are credited readily to KD.
See the begining of this thread where Srikanth
talked at length about a Vaali song all the while admiring KDs imagination.

Multi avargaLe,
There are two kinds of junk songs. First one is just junk, however harmless. See Vaali's example below:
thottabetta rOttule muttai parOta - nee thottu koLLa chicken tharatta
Second one is misguiding the younger generation (samuthaayathai seer kulaikkum paadalgaL). VM keeps doing this over and again for money. There are many examples. I really got disturbed with this one below, when many communal clashes are still going on in Tamilnadu:
thiruppaachi aruvaaLai theetikittu vaada vaada
On the other hand, many of Kavignar Kannadasan's songs have given new dimension to the lives of many. Even though I am not a tamilian by birth, I started loving Tamil so much mainly because of Kannadasan.

Hey the film required that song man. Its about the fight between two village and one village in that was Thiruppachchi. Now in a film about that how can you write about a song about peace on Gulf....
Taking a song out of context and commenting on that is not right.

Thanks LP for letting me know how many kinds of crap songs there are.
I guess KD songs such as 'oru kopayile en kudiyiruppu', which I consider to be a great song, did not corrupt any young minds. In all fairness, the song was glorification of addiction and promiscuity.
If young people go astray after listening to the second kind of crap songs by VM, why don't they become model citizens after listening to songs like 'ra ra ra rasaiya' by VM?
Do you really believe youngters in TN are that gulible? If so, god save TN.

Hi multinamatheyan,
Kannadasan's life was a open book. Many times he told that his life was a bad example. Even, in 'oru kOppaiyile' song, he used the words 'en' 'enakku' words rather than preaching others.
I don't know about LP, but I strongly believe that our people do get affected by movies and songs. Proof: We had/have chief ministers from the cinema field. God save TN!!!
BTW, raa raa raasayya , the #8 song is the inspiration from Kannadasan's 'aaru maname aaru' the #6 song. VM's desire to write a song like Kannadasan.
Regards.

I suppose KDs 'aru maname' was in turn inspired by the nursery rhyme 'one two buckle my shoe'
summa poongappa.
open book close book is not the issue we are arguing. We are only talking about the lyrics of the two not their lives.

I hope you know that, that song depicts Kannadasan's autobiography and more over he himself acted in the movie for that song.
Try something better if you can.

Yes I do know that. Besides I have also read 'vana vaasam' and 'mana vaasam' in their entirety about ten years ago.
Now, what was it that you were trying to prove with your statement?...that I, Multinamatheyan, is an idiot who knows only about VMs songs?
Try someone else for that.

oooppss!! wrong!
That 'raa raa raa rAmaiyA' song was adapted from an older thamizh literary work - 'vivEka chinthAmani'.
That pAdal was :
"Or ettil vaLarAtha vaLarppum

nAl ettil SerkkAtha selvamum
ayi-ettil suRRAtha ulakamum

This Vairamuthu and the superstar rajinikanth are the craps in the world.
They simply ask "pullu kodutha palu kodukkum vunnala mudiyathu thabi". They are asking this to a boy.Ofcourse cow eats grass and can give milk.Is there any logic. If the boy ask to the cow "can you walk with two legs like me" then what will be the answer from the cow?.
