There has always been a complaint in TFM DF that IR fans manipulate ratings etc.
Please visit the latest opinion poll conducted by Kumudam. IR wins by huge majority. If you find time, please read through the various opinions from all over the world. It is really amazing to find that we are not alone in praising IR - The Genius

Yes, we know authenticity of Kumudam's polls. They once ranked Ajith and Vijay ahead of Rajini and Kamal.

your song selection was good , But I think the credit go's to the Lyricist than to IR ..I dont think you could listen to just the music and get those feelings ..

ganesh, it's just not the lyricist - it's the film's director, MD, lyricist, cinematographer & even the ones seen on the screen, in short it's the whole team, that has made those songs memorable. The point of "IR-is-next..." was to only impress upon the range and variety IR handled and to refute the comment by arrfanatic even at his ultimate best ir won't come close to producing a song like ishq bina
Moreover, some of the songs he/she has selected can definitely be enjoyed just for music & the interludes alone are capable of evoking the feelings he mentioned -e.g. sundari kannAl oru sEthi (love & war)...
Personally, I will get extreme pleasure listening to even the instrumental version of each of these songs (regardless of whether the lead is played by a kathukutti):-))

Well, often it's told that IR led the decay / degeneration of TFM's lyrical quality & now if someone selects a few gems of IR, the credit goes to the lyric / lyricist? What irony! One can sense azhukkARu:-(

Ganesh,
U r wrong. Whether past or present, with every hfm/tfm musicians' music u can say that. Not for IR. He's a composer. Not an arranger.
The quality reflects in his music alone since day 1. If u can't & dono how to appreicate that, then that's too bad.
Don't need lyrics for him.

Agreed lyrist give the words. I talking about they way Raja has handled the songs with his own touch. Tell me one song like 'anthi mazhai pozhigirathu' before it!. Even without the words it will touchs the heart.

ravi & others,
thanks for your appreciation. My posting was just spontaneous answer to the previous posting. Sorry for the remark on other MDs, I dont have anything against them. It was just drunk and too late in the night.

IR-is-next-to-god-if-not-Himself:
The song "Ananda Ragam" in your classification about teen love is truly an exceptional one. It is particularly unique in the kind of emotions kindled by this song. The song has a touch of love and also "stormyness" in it that I find no where else. In one of the interludes IR switchs from stormy violins and chellos to exuberent nadhaawaram. That's where IR made the punch, I think.

I never said that i didn't like IR's music ...I just said that the lyrics played a major part in expressing the feelings than IR's music .Even i could hear the instrumental version of those songs , but will i get the same feeling , i'm not sure , Maybe we will get it now .since we know the lyrics .just my opinion .

It is good that ARR also came into the fame,if he had not come ,many of IR's good 'soul-tearing or soul-melting songs or soul-searching songs' would have not come out.
Or nobody would have never DISCUSSED about 'BACK GROUND MUSIC'
We should thank ARR for his great contribution to the music lovers.

ganesh,
same thing happens to me when i hear the instrumental version of vaada malarae thamizh thaenae, arivukku virundhaagum thirukkuraLae, paartha gnabagam illayo, malarndhum malaraadha, maalai pozhudhin mayakkathilae, paattum naanae bhaavamum naanae...and tons and tons of songs from vintage classic section. so, does it prove that GR, KVM, MSV(-TKR)'s tunes will be nothing if such kind of lyrics were not accompanied them?? i don't think so. might be during their period lyrics and music were complimenting each other in such a way that both have become inseperables; same thing holds good for some to many of IR songs. Nowadays its neither necessary for the music to compliment the lyrics nor does the music expect any compliment from the lyrics(baring a few). This is the present trend so this doesn't prove that MDs of today are greater than earlier MDs.

What's so great about the Warriors......They are all jujubee tracks compared to IR's marvellous BGMs from so many movies....Just happens to be first Chinese movie by Indian composer that's all...in it not even a big deal in China, even though they seem to have earmarked this movie for Oscar nomination.......

Hello,
In the Tamil film, every period (between every 10-12 years ) there was big changes.
If you see those very old days, ( I was not born) Thiyagaraja Bahawadar, TR Mahalingam.., period there is some kind of carnatic mixed music also it went on with the Greatest KV Mahadevan, if I am not wrong in the period of 60's. After the Great MSV's entry film music was changed it clothes first time and became little Morden, along with MSV there are some others V.Kumar, ML Srikanth, Chandrabose, but only MSV stood firmly and still living with in our memory,
in 70's after IR's entry TFM has changed agin it's clothes to modern and also criticized very much by the old peoples. If you remember those days every body was shouted to IR, and told that very big down fall to TFM also he is doing nonsense etc...etc and so on.
but again if I am not wrong after from 78 to 90 nearly 12 years one and only IR was dominated the TFM.
Specially in the 80's per year aprox. 250-300 Tamil film was released, and 98% films were with IR's music. But in this period his music was GREAT. ( Vattraada oottru madiri). Take it note most songs and BGM were class, as well as supper dupper hit. Every Film producer and director was waiting for his date. Every music was different and cool and class.( no second thinking) also nobody cannot deny.
For an example I watched Mr. RC Sakthi's Interview long time before, ( long Interview)
He said that the song Aahaya Gangai was composed by IR ( night) with in 30 minutes, even though while he was very busy with another film at that night 10.30 pm. Also there is a tune was already composed and scheduled to record following morning for the same song. After that every body knows about the song how nice and how it touched the people and it still living in peoples mind..
Then after Deva entered and brought some other style. But after ARR was introduced to industry again TFM faced big change, after him who ever entered to TFM following his style only, because every bodies are very good Techno Musicians ( I found this word here in this forum somewhere). But not melody makers, it is really true.
Now whats happening? per year how many films coming out? and how many Music directors are here? so, each person getting how many film?, and how many song's living in our mind.
Answer is ???????????????...... But watch the TV musical programs or stage programs, even little children still singing the old songs. And still people welcoming.
So, what I am saying is TFM will going to face the changes continuously, but the others songs won't stand, in the peoples mind like IR songs. his every works are very unique. ( please read the another forum in this site Ilayaraja and BASS guitar, ) He is something special and Genius in Music.
But I have an another doubt, now most people talking about only IR ARR, and very rear about our Great MSV, and Greatest KVM, also not talking about the oldest people like MKT. Bahawadar and others, like this after another 20 or 25 years people may forgot all these people and may speak about their present MD's. Who Knows??????
Bye!
