ARR is a great musician considering the extent to which he has revolutionised TFM.......but does he copy a lot??
But I personally know just a few songs which are lifted and it is of course every MD's right in TFM to copy........NOM to deva :-)
They are.....
1.Telephone Manipol, the beats part from All That She Wants
2.En Veettu thotathil........sum carnatic song??
3.Velli Malare in JODI.......from some song in Karnan??
4.Muqabla......those cool beats in the end not lifted but inspired from some english song
5.Sundari from KM.......i dunno abt this one....coz i heard extremely similar beats in The Drew Carry Show.....may be co-incidence
6.Manasukkul oru puyal from STAR.......these beats exactly same as i saw in a movie played on Star Movies.......i mean towards the end when the cast and crew are displayed.
7.Shakalakka Baby......i feel these beats are kinda similar to those in NFS 3......not sure though
8.KM from KM.......again in one particular place the music is similar to ( not much ) wat i heard in NFS 3
can any body add onto this list.........???
Please donot pull other MD's into this discussion and star sum sort of ARR vs IR war........i know tis too hard to resist but please do :-)

AR Rahman(no pun intended)
I presume you just started listening to TFM not too long ago. Try listening to the songs made from 1976. You will learn alot and realize alot of the who/what/when/how/which/etc. of the present day music.
Just give it a shot. If not you'll never know.

AR Rahman,
It is nice to hear that you accept that you are having faults also, but it is not necessary to drag other MD's through the mud.If you believe that YSR has copied Poongatrile to compose Mun Paniya, you are mistaken. I thought a musically educated guy such as yourself would understand that just because a song is in a similiar raga, it is not a copy.
I think you should refer to the text books again ;-)

You probably now know why you should not have started this thread. This forum is sometimes
visted by pigs and when they crap, the stench is
unbearable.
Pigs are banned on the streets of Singapore and that is why they roam about this forum.
Some of these porambokkus and PIMs (i.e. Peyer
Illaatha Mundams) do not have an opinion
worth talking about and feed on other people, just like the vultures they are.
As far as copying or inspiration is concerned don’t worry about ARR. The trend was started by
IR; ithai avarei bagirangamaaga oppukkondirukkiraar.
You can't expect the unwashed filthy dogs to know this.

ada para naai ROTFOOL,
Let's analyse why u gettin so worked up.
"You should also tell boardsover who taught ARR the "art of copying. :)
psss - don;t ask, you may not like the answer. :)"
ok now, let's look at ur pathetic response....

Let me tell the ragaas.
"yen veettu thottathil" - starting is "senchurutti", middle part is shankarabharamn and hamsadhwani. But, that senchurutti part make others think that it is a copy of "nadha vindu kalathi namonnam" song.
As for "kangal yenge " song from karnan, I think it is "shanmuga priya" raagam. So is velli malare. You cannot change a raagam to escape being branded as copy cat.
Of course Minnale came before STAR. But Thakshak, original of STAR, came two year before Minnale. So, there is every possibility of HJ copying it. In samurai itself, in one song , HJ has used the beats of "Thom karuvil irundhom " song

CF: It is not merely because both yen veettu thOttaththil and naadha vindhu are in senchurutti that they are considered similar. The notes used are the same.
Neither kaNgal engE nor veLLi malarE are Shanmugapriya. In fact there is no prathimadhyamam and the dhaivatham is different too. kaNgaL engE sounds more like a limited use of bimpalaasi (aabEri) to the extent it alsmost sounds like sudhdha dhanyaasi (very limited use of ri and dha). veLLi malarE is more like Hindusthaani kaapi.

rajaG:
I are probably right about Kangal Enge song. I accept that. I do not have facts to prove it otherwise.
But, tell me in "En veettu" song how long is the notes run similar. It probably only goes for pallavi alone. ARR himself has said that he and shankar wanted to bring a bramanical feel to that song..(madubala is a bramin in that film) and so they thought that that bajanai june will fit as a T. ARR carefully changed the raagas in the middle. I think ARR made this in a more consious way from a directors angle.
AIMHO.
