MS thanks...But first time even I thought so...but that song really grows into me....wonderful tune....only bad thing(which nullifies all the good things) is Shankar Mahadevan's nasal rendition(enakku saLi pidichaathan apapdi paada mudiyum)

What abt padavanthator raagam in Ilamai KaalangaL...It sounds like Hindolam in most parts(sila edangal mttum vera etho maathiri irukku)....

That song from NilAve mugam kAtttu does sound like KeeravAni(but with N2 in the 1st interlude).
IR_fan,I don't hear R1 anywhere,so don't think it's MMG IMO.
dubaax,Moondrezhuthu seems like MMG in the pallavi,and then goes on to Sindhubhairavi in the charanams as far as I remember-not heard the song properly/recently.
padavanthator raagam in Ilamai KaalangaL looks like Hindolam with a lot of stray swarAs like N3...idukku mela solla teriyillai-quite a vague song.

btw, I noticed most of the songs in the database haven't been verified and even the same ragam is listed under multiple names. Who is maintaining this? Should we take over ... or too much managerial overtones from me? :)

I guess i am wrong with MMG for "sittu parakkudhu"...so is it another Keeravani & NB mix from IR (a mix that he has done many times IMHO). Ram, so another bullseye in your kitty :-)[too many "bullseye(s)" these days, ain't it Ram. U r in flowing form]. One more close look though on that song tonite.

I agree that "Sittu Parakudhu" does have keeravani feel. I was wrong in naming 'MMG'...it shud be 'Vakhulabharanam'...Again the same old problem of where u feel u shud start...
Starting with Ga3, and u see Sa Ri1 Ga3 Ma1 Pa Dha1 Ni2 Sa (though Ri1 is irregular, it is in use nevertheless). Start with Ni3, u get Sa Ri2 Ga2 Ma1 Pa Dha1 Ni3 Sa.
So, it shud be firmed up between keeravani or vakhulabharanam. IMHO :-)

The swara pattern was S R1 G2 M N2 S
I Started with N2,
and the notes were
Thathoam Thalaangu Thathoam
N2 S S S S S R1 S
and so On.

dubaax - you are right - Sa Ri1/Ri2 Ga2 Ma1 P Ni2 Sa are more prominent - infact I had to listen to the song a couple of times to figure out if there was any dha note in it. could spot a faint dha1 note. I think this song is based on natabhairavi plus a Ri1 note.

"othayila ninnadhenna, en mannavane mannavane"...though i dont know the name of raaga,trying to find out, but i feel it has many folk songs,also other songs in this raaga are "Kannukulla keluthi", "Adi gaanakarunguyile" by Jesudas,"Gaanakarunguyile" in Sethu etc.
1 possible correction---u have put Gowrimanohari for this song ,"Gaanakarunguyile" from Sethu, in your Database file. i don't think it is gowrimanohari. Experts, pls clarify.

ya..actually this song has 2 raagams if i am right. Pallavi is different from the Charanams(are close to Gowrimanohari).i just now remembered:-) after i saw your post.
but for IR_fan query, i was referring to the Pallavi of this song. Trying to find out which raaga it is.

I think even the pallavi is close to GM(may be i'm wrong)...but I think GM is one raga which I have heard a lot and can be confident in making out....but again I'm no expert...itz for the experts to clarify...i dont have proper explainations to support my stance(itz just and intuition)

I think there is another KeeravaNi in the film "Nilave Mugham Kattu"..."Thendralai Kandu Kolla"...by Hariharan is mostly Keeravani(may be it is Simmendra Madhyamam)...check it out:-)

One of Ilaiyaraja's keeravani is in the malayala film "Atharvam" (1989) .. Poovai virinju sung by MG sreekumar!!
