seedan - what does rotton have to do with Kavita - she is the uncrowned queen of the Hindusthani World. what in the world are you talking about - your postings do not make any sense to me.
rajaG - for heaven's sake - if you want to say something - how about in a language all of us can understand

avr: thanks for the long posts. i didn't read them :-), because, i dont really dislike kavitha; about 10 years ago, the on new years eve, the bombay doordarshan had a song composed by who-is-that-famous-sarod-player-with-a-slight-greying-of-hair and sung by kavita and another singer whose name i dont remember now. it was fabulous. what really ticked me was "the range", "low pitch" "high pitch" stuff in praveen's post. anyway we had a kaTTailapORavan [:-)] sometime back who kept using the phrase "onnAnkaTTai" (key of C, ie., shadjam = C), "reNdAnkaTTai" (D), ... without knowing what it really meant. i usually ignore such "lapses", but that day i was bored, i suppose. well, ...

Praveenmani, what's with the discourtesy overdrive? I don't believe hihi :-) (see I got the smile) and rajaG are "talking" stupid things. They are "pointing" out stupid things. Huge difference.

Kavitha krishnamoorthu cooks better North Indian dishes than KS Chitra.. North indian dishes are far suprior than the south, infact there's nothing called south indian. Its either andhara special or thayir saadham. So, KK is better in the popular cooking style. But, KS Chtira doesnt even know whats the difference between a roti and a naan.. She doesnt even fit to be in cooking scence...and
hEy.. guys.. Hold on.. How can ya say that.. KSC is an excellent maker of aviyal & mOr kazambu. No one can come closer to the length of the idiyappam she makes. And its whiter that anybody else' too. Do you think kavitha krishna or moorthy can tell a difference between an Idiyaappam and noodle? Our KSC is the queen of Sambar and princess of poriyal. She is the best in south. The malarbar paratos frm her kitchen can win any nothies roti.. But you must be from the south of north india or north west of the central east india.. There's no way you can compare our best with the dry stuf..
stop.. stop... stop.. you guys can think of only appam and appaLam.. World is big man. In the current treand you need to be versatile from Pizza to paayaasaa to parmesan dish maan.. Compare the variesties and u would know! The actual measure of any kitchen is not limited by the size of the stove or weight of cylinder, but lies in the hands of the karaNdi. The way KK can handle itself amazes. I wonder whether KSC knows how a big spoon and a karaNdi differs..
You moronic insensible tasteless bude... How dare ya say, our Sambar is not world famous.. Infact, the word Uncle sam has originated from a desi bar which also served hot sambar to some tax guys who were driving taxis at tht time.. And they know how KSC can change the flavor any damn thing she attempts..
yo! you are brainless.. There's no point in discussing KK with you. You are mad..
dEi aRivili.. enakku brain thaan illai.. unakku naakku illai.. mookku illai.. kudal illai.. ellaaththukkum mEla pasi illai.. athaan oru nalla thaaLippu, ajeerNmaarathu unakku.. choo Odi pO.. kaN muNNaadi niniyO unnai sooraNam paNNiruvEn.. jaakrathai..

I think I have made my views pretty clear! I cannot go on justifying my statements to the people who are not sane enough to understand & ofcourse their CHAMCHAS.I cannot act like an uncivilized uneducated idiot just bcos the otjhers do! Sane people will surely understand what I meant. Once again I have nothing against chitra. U can see I have placed her with LATA MANGESHKAR!

RajaG, hihi, praveen -
I sincerely request everyone to stop all these personal attacks. Praveen - on some thread, rajaG has posted an interesting article about "the pitch argument" being dangerous. If I have to say - "kavita is better than chithra at high/low pitch", I should substantiate it by mentioning the scale and the notes etc. Which means I must first work out the notations of the song on a keyboard. Otherwise the point is irrelevant.
And people - please stop bashing kavitha or chithra...pleeeeeeeez. They are fine singers and their achievements cannot be belittled. I have heard quite a few of those kavitha songs I had put up there. And they are fabulous. But let us stop here as this is a Tamil film music page. Making such a comparison between two artists is not good IMO, especially when they are both fine singers.
HOWEVER praveen -
Also I cant call "kehta hai dil" from Jeans a CARNATIC song at all. In the Dil Se song, Kavitha hasnt sung but RECITED those lines. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Hihi :-)
Was it amjad ali khan? What song was that? I dont know about it.
Yes, I have read the muthulang kattai discussions about SPB and how KJY,ghantasala,BMK,rafi, mugesh, mandey..................lack HEAVY BASS and MUSCULAR PUNCH in their voice :-)

RajaG:
I listened to that song...it was divine. What a sweet and clear voice KSC has! My exposure to KSC in Malayalam isnt too much...but I have still not got enough of her songs like gopika vasantham and others like alaipayuthey, kalyana gopalam, ever since I have heard them. There is a new thread about Gems of kSC ...maybe you can contribute to that (or post a link to previous discussions in the archives).
I do believe that both Kavitha and Chithra have a place amongst the legendary singers. I also feel KSC has been the luckier of the two because many of her classical songs have become superhits because she has been active in the Kerala film industry which still produces a great deal of movies with classical music. Such movies in Hindi are too few, and they positively sink without a trace. So do the private ghazal/bhajan/semiclassical albums done by Kavita...blame on bad marketing or bad taste.
I had read an interview of Chitra in which she describes a BREATHLESS song she has sung...but later she is sporting enough to attribute it to new and advanced technology in recording too. That proves that she is a very level-headed person .

Now let me tell u one thing, (*which most of u dont know!*). I had kept this statement for the end of this arguement.
"CHITRA HERSELF IS A GREAT 'FAN' OF KAVITA KRISHNAMURTHY!!!!!!!!"
I really think this is actually raising the blood circulation levels of many people! But I am sorry, I cant help saying it.
April 2002 at a function organised by Andhra Pradesh Kalavedika chitra openly on the stage said she adores KK. Moreover for people who think it was just formality, she also called Kavita Krishnamurthy on stage and PRESENTED HER A SAREE, as a mark of respect! Kavita also humbly responded by saying even she was a chitra fan!
