Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

Folks:
yaaro is right. I have seen an interview of IR in which he clearly explined how this song was composed both in kannada and tamil. He praised the tamil lyricitst ( I think it is KD), for coming up with apt lyrics and played down the kannada lyricist a bit. He parituclarly explained "enai unai thaalaattudhe" portion of the song.

As I had written, I clarified this doubt with PBS, when SL and I met him at Woodlands Drive-In. PBS promptly said that the Kannada original was entirely a GKV creation. (I think PBS had sung the Kannada song).
And reg. the IR interview, I too think I have seen it. He spoke on the greatness of Kannadasan, and related this incident to prove the spontaneous creativity of KD. But he said that this happened when he working under GKV, I don't think he ever claimed that the song itself was composed by him. Of course, he went on to run down the current day lyricists who needed a couple of days and long walks in parks to come up with good lyrics!

RJay, similar to the way saravanan said, ARR in an interview, has clarified that he was only a computer programmer or something of that sort in punnagai mannan and thats all.
seeing such things (i.e. GKV giving a song which is harmonically sophisticated, which in future IR is going to practice; and IR giving a song whose orchestration and all in future ARR is going to practice), i think great MDs like GKV, MSV, IR infact had "knowledge and inclination" in what would be coming in future but because of their own interest or so didn't want to pursue further.

As a MD, when you "employee" a person whose ability is in a different area, you would be curious to know and try out that area(that too when you are a great MD). So this cannot be said that the "employee" ghost produced that song or this MD is not giving the credit to the employee.
All IMHO.

Song of the Day: vaNNath thamizh peNNE nee kaNNurangu from Signatures.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/vannathamizh.rm
- This is not from any film. This is a composition of Srikanth, sung by Raja Govindarajan (RajaG as he is known here). I have a small part to play in this song, I wrote the lyrics.
- We did this song as a part of an album called Signatures, which included several songs written by Udhaya and myself. Unfortunately, the album could not be brought out for various reasons. However, I didn't want to let this effort go into oblivion, hence the SOTD.
- This song is a lullaby, singing the praise of thamizh. I detail the various stages of thamizh, from its "kal thOndri maN thOndraa kaalaththE" time to its present, ending with a hope that the internet will usher in a new age of growth for the language.
- RajaG is a wonderful singer with a voice to kill for. He has been doing stage shows all over US. He has sung with the likes of SPB and Anuradha Sriram. Srikanth's 80s in chennai was featured before, he too is a regular in newtfmpage and an avid composer.
- If anyone is interested in checking out this song in mp3, let me know.

Then sindhudhe : It is futile to argue over the degree of IR's contribution to this Honey soaked song.Let's enjoy it and hail GKV's team
Yet,one thing is sure. It is because IR adapted this song's style
and churned out many mellifluous melodies,he earned fans like me esp
in songs like
"Veenai pesum kaigale maalai soodavaa" - Vaazha ninaithaal vaazhalaaam
"Oru vaanavil pole" - Kaatrinile varum geetham
"Naan pesa vandhen"- Paalooti valarthakili

bb, kalakkal! Muthamizhum nammai mella varudigiradhu! Such a tender caressing lullaby- the lyrics, music and vocals are all scintillating! The chirping of birds in the interludes, and the progression to the nocturnal noises of nature in the brief postlude- perhaps indicating the evening which has now merged into the night--innuma Sidhdharth thoongala?:)
bb, mp3 mudinja anuppu.
And please feature the other 'Signature' songs too in regular intervals as SOTD!

raj, 'Thanjavooru Seemaiyilae'- the opening line itself is by SJ- I can send you the mp3 if you wish.
And yes, Vidhubala was definitely the actress who played JC's friend.

'VaNNa thamizh peNNe' is very melodious. Appreciate the work that went behind this song. The tune, lyric and singing all looks very simple and catchy. Nice to see this kinda song in SOTD. A soothing change.

I've seen a Hindi version of "then sindhudhae vaanam" long back in Oliyum OLiyum, must've been Anand Miland or Shravan's thaatha doing the copying.
bb,
Vanna Thamizh pennae is a flat out classic. Your lyrics were so apt for the theme. I remember hearing RajaG explain the theme he wanted and you have nailed all that he asked for. G, as always rocks effortlessly. And(as I've often told him) this is the Srikanth I personally prefer to the market-savvy one he is becoming now. The powerful melody in this song and tracks like "the warrior" and other Signatures tunes are my favorite Srikanth efforts. When the melody, lyrics and vocals all support each other the song loses time, date, or place and becomes a classic.

On thEn sindhudhE vaanam - purely from an analytical spirit and NOT to cast any aspersions on the skills or integrity of GKV - the pallavi has strong similarities to a Rafi/Lata Duet which goes "Dil jO na kEh sakhaa vOh, vOhi raath....something something" I wonder if anybody else has similar opinion. I will try to get the link for the Hindi song
